The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 496: Mother (1)
Chapter 496: Mother (1)
"My father is a liar. He said he would not forget about me when Lydia comes, but since we returned all he did was surround her and was ready to give away my room," Annalise said, not believing her father’s quick betrayal.
She couldn’t blame him since Lydia was such a good child that you couldn’t help going to her, but he could have at least waited a little more before taking Lydia and claiming that her old room now belonged to Lydia.
Phillip pushed papers into Annalise’s hands for her to catch up with what she missed and start acting like a leader.
Siena sat beside Annalise, trying to get used to her new job of helping Annalise. There was much for her to learn so she couldn’t get settled in yet. "Grandparents are always this way with their grandchildren. My grandfather was sweet to me in private and allowed me to do whatever I wanted."
"Then I am looking forward to getting to play with my grandchildren. There is so much work to do. We can try going over this pile today. Put aside anything that has to do with the truce," Annalise said, going back to work since she had no choice. "Make a note that we are to find a messenger to send to the palace with our demands for the truce."
Siena wrote it down right away to not forget. "Will the truce have to wait for your marriage to Rafael to continue?"
"It will be signed on that day to show that we are serious. I think having a child is enough proof of our union but it might not be enough to the court. We should start sending what each side wants and just sign the day I marry Rafael. This way I speak mostly to the king and don’t see those men I want to end," said Annalise.
"Is this to continue your newfound goal of limiting how much you fight?" Siena asked, bringing up a conversation they had when Lydia was sleeping on the way here.
"Yes. I won’t feel the need to kill them if I don’t see them. I don’t want to be fighting as much as I used to do to bring any harm to the baby. I also don’t want to be fighting if not to defend myself to make anyone think I don’t care that I am carrying a child," Annalise answered, leaning back in her chair as she needed to stretch.
"I’ve noticed that Lydia is already mimicking the things I do and wanting to have the same hobbies as us. Although I plan to train her in the future so she can protect herself, I don’t want her to be fighting anyone now. I am trying my best to show that fighting is not always the best answer. It’s slowly killing me," Annalise muttered.
She had always enjoyed killing someone right away to solve her problems but now she had to try talking. Not just because of being Lydia’s mother but being the leader. Annalise didn’t want anyone to fear her.
"I will put out a warning that this change you are going through does not mean anyone should expect to pick a fight with you and get away with it. I fear having to hold in wanting to fight may have you seriously injuring the first person to annoy you," said Siena.
"Girls, have a bit of sliced fruit. They were dropped off as a gift for Annalise’s return," Celine said, putting the plate of fruit on the table. "We’ll keep Lydia busy for you while you work. She can spend the night with us-"
"Not happening. She will be spending her first night here with me at our home. Do you honestly want me to be alone tonight while you get to play with her? What part of that is fair?" Annalise asked.
"It isn’t fair, but we are excited to learn more about our granddaughter. She has your father running around and nearly fell to break my good table. If you are busy with work, we can watch her for you. We are the ones that need to cook dinner," Celine said, bringing up the fact Annalise was not ready to cook for Lydia by herself.
"We will eat here and then go home. You’ve joined father in being unfair. Throwing work my way as soon as I return and then taking Lydia from me. I thought pregnant women would be showered with what they wanted. I was wrong," Annalise muttered, going back to her papers.
"Is it true? You are expecting?" Celine asked, looking back and forth between Annalise and Siena. "We need to start believing that woman. She predicted it."
Annalise looked away from the papers to her mother. "Please don’t tell me that grandmother was claiming that I am pregnant. I don’t want her to think that it was him taking a sip of her drink that led to this. It wouldn’t have been possible."
She had to be pregnant before she returned the last time and went to visit Celeste.
"I’m sorry to say, but Celeste will think this is her doing. This is all that she needs to start selling that drink to others. So," Celine said, taking a seat at the table. Playing with Lydia could wait a little longer. "We must start planning your wedding and the arrival of your second child. Will I get to offer advice in the wedding planning?’
"I am leaving it to you and Rafael’s mother. You can discuss ideas when you meet her," Annalise answered.
"And when will that be? So much is changing and we have not met his side of the family. You can tell me honestly if they do not want to meet us," Celine said, ready to hear the truth.
"Mother, that is far from why you have not met them. Beatrice wanted to come here, but Rafael got jealous and asked that they return to his manor with him. It is time you convince father to travel with me to see Rafael’s manor and meet his family. I will leave it to your hands," Annalise said as there was no way for her to convince him alone.
"I think we should leave it to Lydia’s hands. There is another young lady in this house to sway your father’s decision. I will let you get back to work. Try not to sit around working for too long Annalise. It is important you take breaks and rest," Celine said, torn between playing with Lydia and watching over Annalise. freёnovelkiss.com
Annalise would just send her away for being a bother so she was left with playing with Lydia and occasionally checking in on Annalise.
"Not long ago you were happy to have me work so you could play with Lydia. Siena is here with me so there’s no need for you to worry about us working too hard. I don’t want to give Siena a lot of work on her first day," said Annalise.
"I will check back in soon. I need to do a bit of cleaning so Lydia has somewhere to sleep whenever you need us to watch over her. Excuse me."
Annalise took that as her mother planning to clean out her room to make way for Lydia. "They are all losing their minds. Two hours of work and then I will go save Lydia from them."
