Chapter 497: Mother (2)

"I’m tired. That’s enough for now, Siena. You can go do whatever you want and I will finish up the rest of the work later. Logan will be in the house Rafael and the knights used when they were here. You can spend the night there if you want. There is more than one bed," Annalise said before Siena could become embarrassed.

"I will go visit him to see how he is settling in. Excuse me," Siena said, standing up from the table. "I will be back in time for dinner and to walk home with you."

"Hmm," Annalise replied, holding it over to lay on the table.

Thanks to Rafael thinking ahead, they had a small spare room they planned to let Beatrice and River use whenever they came to visit until they would have their own home here so Siena could stay with her and Lydia.

Annalise closed her eyes, tired after going through most of what she needed to be updated on and adding more to the truce for her father and others to look over before she sent it by a messenger to the palace.

"Annalise."

Annalise opened her eyes right away upon hearing Lydia’s voice. She sat up and looked to her right where Lydia was standing. "Yes," she answered. "Is there something you need?"

"Are you done with work?" Lydia asked, slowly inching closer to Annalise. She looked around at the papers Annalise had stacked up.

"I am now. I am going to take a little break and then we can play later if you want. You can sit here,’ Annalise said, tapping her leg. "Did you enjoy playing with your grandparents?"

Lydia carefully got up onto Annalise’s lap to sit down. "Yes. Grandfather says he has a lot to teach me. You can use a sword better than Rafael."

"Sounds like he has been filling your ear with how much better we are than Rafael. Do not take his words too seriously when he speaks of Rafael. Your grandfather is a petty man. I can use swords," Annalise confessed.

"Like Rafael. You are a knight?" Lydia asked, confused as to how Annalise could be a queen and a knight.

"I prefer to call myself a warrior. I don’t normally walk around with armour like Rafael does. In the future I will teach you to use a sword, but not right now. You should continue to be the child you are now," Annalise said, hoping that Lydia would remain the cute little girl she was now for a little longer. freeweɓnovel.cøm

Lydia should be carefree like most children and not be so worried about the dangers of the world.

"Can I still continue to learn to ride a horse or do I have to wait?" Lydia asked.

"You will learn how to ride one tomorrow. I will be walking around the town to speak to a few people and then I will be free to teach you how to ride a horse," Annalise replied, moving around what she was to do tomorrow to do this with Lydia.

"And when will we see Rafael again? He is alone," Lydia said, feeling like he was sad because they were gone. "Will he play with his parents?"

"He might. I remember that he once trained with his father and Beatrice will visit him often so he won’t be alone. When most of my work is finished and the town does not need me, we will go surprise him. You must help convince your grandfather to come with us so he can meet Rafael’s mother. Will you help?" Annalise asked.

"Yes. I want to see Rafael again," Lydia softly spoke. She had much to tell him about what she saw on the ride here and then she wanted to share that she had helped Celine wash fruits for Annalise and Siena when they were working.

She was still being useful as soon as they arrived so Rafael should know.

"I will try my best to finish my work fast so that we can go see him. I don’t want him to be alone for much longer either. Before we leave this town, we need to find a gift for Rafael to surprise him with when we go to the manor. You should think of what he will want," Annalise said, giving Lydia a task to distract her.

Lydia already had the answer to what Rafael wanted. "I think he will want us to be near him. That is what he said when I asked what kind of gifts he likes."

She wanted to save to buy something for Annalise and Rafael for all the toys they gifted her. She had yet to ask Annalise what she wanted, but Rafael had answered that he just needed her around.

"I’m sure that is what he wants. Do you want to go to my old bedroom to get a little nap before dinner? I had to wake you from your sleep earlier and you’ve been running around since you came here. I will rest with you," Annalise proposed.

She wouldn’t be able to keep her eyes open for much longer since she stayed awake most of the trip here to help look out for danger and she went straight into catching up with work.

Lydia nodded her head, wanting to join Annalise in going to sleep. She promised Rafael in secret that she would look after Annalise and the baby that was growing. She had to fulfil her promise so Rafael would be pleased with her.

Lydia slid off of Annalise’s lap so she wouldn’t need to be carried and waited for Annalise to stand up so they could walk together. Annalise offered her hand to be held so Lydia didn’t need to ask that they do it.

They walked from the table and went up the stairs.

Annalise opened the door for them and was greeted by the sight of a room that was in chaos but the bed was not a mess so they could lay on it. Annalise left the door open for anyone looking for them to be able to look inside the room and see that they were sleeping.

Annalise sat down on the bed first to make sure there was nothing on it to poke or scare Lydia. She then sat Lydia down on the bed to take off her shoes and then took off her own while Lydia crawled further onto the bed to find a good spot to rest.

"If the wind coming through the window is too cold, wake me and I will close the window," Annalise said as she joined Lydia in laying down.

Annalise laid down close to Lydia and not long after, Lydia moved to rest her head right beside Annalise’s arm. Annalise smiled, moving her arm so Lydia could rest her head on it instead of the pillow.

They were close for Annalise to keep Lydia warm and protected whilst blocking a lot of the breeze coming in.

"Annalise."

’Yes?" Annalise answered, shifting her body to see Lydia’s face since she was looking at her fingers as she played with them.

"Mother," Lydia changed her greeting. "Thank you for becoming my mother."

Annalise laid still for a moment as this was the first time Lydia had addressed her as mother. She hugged Lydia, warmed by the greeting that would be stuck in her mind. "And I thank you for accepting me."

’I want to tell Rafael thank you so we should see him soon. Then we can all lay together," Lydia said, followed by a yawn as her body quickly felt tired now that she was on a soft mattress.

"Alright. You will see him soon to tell him," Annalise promised.
