Chapter 440: A day of surprises (2)
"Why do you look so distracted, Annalise? You are giving us a tour. Is there something else you want to do?" Heidi questioned since Annalise looked lost in thought.
"No, I am happy to show you around. I am just a little suspicious of Rafael not coming to see me at breakfast. What could he possibly have been doing? Did my father tie him up somewhere?" Annalise muttered, seriously considering it as something Phillip would do.
She should have gone to check on him so she wouldn’t be so worried now.
"From where I sat, I thought your father liked Rafael. Maybe he wanted to leave you alone because he knew you were going to take us around? Are you upset that you didn’t get your morning kiss?" Heidi asked, teasing Annalise.
"Maybe," Annalise answered. He was all touchy last night and now nowhere to be seen in the morning.
"Wow," Heidi replied, her jaw close to dropping because of Annalise’s honesty. "I would have never imagined the two of you doing such a thing and you miss it. How dare he not come to kiss you? Do you want me to go have a word with him? Though I can’t say much because he is my employer."
"I can change that. If you were willing to move here, you could work for me. It is something you would need to consider in the future anyway because Rafael will move here unless you want to be one of the few who will stay behind to take care of the old manor for when we visit it," said Annalise.
"I have not made my decision. I was going to decide after a look around the town today to see if I can live here until the new town goes up. I wouldn’t mind living somewhere new though my family wouldn’t follow me. I’m not going to try to convince them because I am at the age to go off on my own to find where I want to settle down. It would be nice if I had someone else to spend time with at home," said Heidi.
She had been so distracted with all that was happening with Annalise that she didn’t continue her search for a good man.
"I can introduce you to men who might be perfect for you, but then again, I have noticed how much you were around Michael-"
"Michael!" Heidi exclaimed, turning to Annalise who must have lost her mind. "Are you crazy? There is nothing between me and that man. He comes to me asking me to give him extra food. In return, he pays me. That is all. I could never be with a man shorter than me. I have dreams," she mumbled.
"Oh, what are the dreams? Should we share naughty stories and be scandalous?" Giselle asked, excited to do it.
"I will have to decline sharing my dreams. Two of you had a crush on Rafael and the other was engaged to him. We don’t need to make this friendship weird," Annalise joked.
"Oh, come on. I’m sure you would find something amusing about what we have to share though there aren’t any men in our lives. Well, when it comes to Heidi and I. Siena has that one knight always by her side. It won’t be long before she is getting married and settling down. Heidi and I must stick together to find men," Giselle said, linking her arm with Heidi’s.
"Not so fast. I have seen you spending time with Thomas. You told me that if not for Annalise showing us around, he made the offer to show-"
Giselle covered Heidi’s mouth with her hand. "That was not to be shared. You were not supposed to know about it. If only you hadn’t caught me speaking with him."
"Why don’t you want me to know that you and Thomas have been speaking? I won’t be angry to know that you two have become close," Annalise said, puzzled by Giselle being secretive. "You are covering her nose with your hand. Unless you intend to kill her, you should move your hand."
"Oh, sorry," Giselle apologised to Heidi and removed her hand. "The thing is, Thomas and I are not close. I am always the one to start conversations with him and his responses are so short. I was surprised when he made the offer to take me around, but when he heard that you were going to do it, he changed his mind. I didn’t want to let you know that I was trying to get close to him because I learned he used to like you." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Annalise felt more confused after hearing Giselle’s explanation. "I have Rafael," she reminded Giselle.
She had no reason to be jealous or angered by Giselle speaking with Thomas unless she had feelings for Thomas she was suddenly realising. Annalise knew it would never happen because she loved Rafael. If Giselle wanted to spend time with Thomas, she should do it without being secretive.
"I know that you have Rafael, but I thought you might have become jealous or hated me hanging out with your friend. Forgive me, Annalise. I am getting used to not worrying about my friends being upset with me. Then I will speak to him without hiding," Giselle said, making an attempt to turn around to find Thomas so he could be the one to give her a tour.
Seina and Heidi held onto Giselle to stop her from abandoning them for Thomas.
"You will see him later. Right now, we are going to have fun," said Heidi.
"Then we must do something exciting. Where can we find dresses to fit in, Annalise? The dresses we are wearing now stand out from others," Giselle said, looking around at the dresses the woman walking by them wore.
Giselle was ready to wander off to fully explore a new side of trends here at the border and to tell the dressmakers about the trends at home.
"We are close to where my mother gets most of her dresses, but I think it would be best for you to join me in wearing pants," Annalise said, sticking out her right foot to show how easy it was for her to move around. "Don’t judge it until you try it. It’ll make it easier for you if we need to run."
"Run? Why would we need to run?" Heidi asked, worried about where Annalise was going to take them.
"I would love to give pants a try. One that will match my coat," Siena said, up for something new. In a new place, they should all try new things.
"Why isn’t anyone concerned about why we would need to run?" Heidi asked, unable to be happy about pants until she knew why she had to run.
"Well, if Siena is going to try it, so will I. As long as it doesn’t have me looking strange," Giselle decided, wanting to join in on what the others were doing. She trusted in her skills to make herself look stylish in pants.
"Why do we have to run-"
"Come on," Annalise said, taking hold of Heidi’s hand so she could take her to wear they could pick out pants for men and have them altered.
Siena and Giselle walked together, following the excited Annalise and concerned Heidi.
