Chapter 426: Moving forward (3)

"That bastard left without saying goodbye. Should we stop by his home?"

Annalise turned around after hearing the king’s voice. Coming her way was the king and queen walking side by side with the king being protective as if the queen were made of glass.

Annalise loved that despite all the pressure from all around for the couple to have a child, the king had remained faithful, waiting for the queen to be the one to become pregnant with their heir. She wished she could stay a little longer to learn more about the two, but it wouldn’t be long before she would be back here.

"He has Alessandra to return to. We shouldn’t disturb the two and I wish to return to the palace to rest. It has been too many hours of listening to old men shout what they like and don’t like. Hasn’t it, Annalise?" Asked Hazel.

The meeting was a test of her patience. She disliked how the men acted, but she had to put up with it since she wanted to be more involved. Hazel also wanted another woman present so Annalise might feel more comfortable.

Hazel had a feeling that if she didn’t join today they would have spoken more about Annalise being a woman and needing a man from her side to join. This was exactly why Hazel wanted to be more involved and speaking with Annalise who was not afraid to go up against anyone gave her more confidence.

Hazel looked forward to the next time she would see Annalise so they could share advice as leaders. There was much Hazel could learn from Annalise and hopefully, there were a few things she could teach Annalise. Regardless of the relationship Annalise had with Rafael, Hazel was going to take it upon herself to build a great friendship with Annalise.

"It was. I have never been in a room with men like that. Unfortunately, I will experience more meetings like this as I take over from my father. It was a good test of not using violence when annoyed," said Annalise.

"You might not believe it, but I wish I could send those in the court to the dungeon so I could get rid of them. Tobias wouldn’t agree to it though he loved the idea. Our dungeon is almost full at the moment," Hazel said, knowing Annalise would love to hear about this. "When you return, I shall give you a proper palace tour."

"And I will give you a good tour when you come to the border. I wish for you to be safe and enjoy awaiting the arrival of your child. Should you need help getting rid of anyone, please send for me. Even if it is to beat the king," Annalise said out loud, not caring that Tobias stood beside Hazel.

The king had to know that she was ready to kill him should something happen to the queen. She liked Hazel and did not want a repeat of the things she was hearing.

"I will and should anyone cause you trouble around the kingdom, you can use my name or send word to the palace. Oh, you can have this," Hazel said, trying to take off her necklace with the Castro symbol. "Anyone who sees this should know that you are close to the royal family and should they mess with you, they should expect us to come their way. A little help please."

Tobias went behind Hazel to help with taking off the necklace. It was a gift from him to her but sure she could give it away without asking. He needed to have it made again so it was like she still had the gift.

"I apologise for the things the men said today. Saul, Otto, and Julius are the men in court to overlook this kingdom’s affairs with other lands. I am looking to replace them since they have been here around my father’s reign, but that will take some time so please bear with me. I called Mark here because he is rising in the court and wouldn’t be biassed," said Tobias.

"I didn’t expect the warmest welcome. I do not need an apology from you for the actions of others. It is normal for your side to be against me and likewise. I look forward to a day when we can talk without insults. It was nice meeting you, King Tobias. I will let my people know that the royals are people we can trust. People with good hearts," Annalise said, holding out her hand for the necklace to be placed in.

"That is good to hear. I will keep my side of the deal to put out a royal order that you are not to be addressed as wild, barbarians, or savages. The order will be sent out as soon as we return to the palace along with the order for the border guards to not attack. Most of them will return to the palace or be spread out around other parts of the border," Tobias said, keeping his end of the deal. freewёbnoνel.com

There wasn’t a need for most of the palace army to be at the border now. They could finally have a longer break to return to see their families.

"I will also sign off for Rafael to get some land. Some of the men are arguing that you have the manor, but that was a gift from my father to your father. The manor will still belong to you as River passed it onto you. The land behind your manor will now go back to belong to the palace so your reward will be the land at the border. I have no problem with you building a town," Tobias said as it wasn’t new for towns to show up.

The new town would allow for trading between the two lands and hopefully, it would push for others to be willing to go near the border to see what it was like. To enjoy that the war was now over and meet new people. There was so much to gain from a new town going up so Tobias would not let the court try to ruin it.

"I will send you the plans as soon as I get workers and the materials needed to start building. You also need to send out another decree about guns because there was one at the border. With so many people getting their hands on one, you will need to start putting more laws about them. I hope the kingdom will be ready for those things," Rafael said, still against guns, but there was nothing he could do as many were starting to get their hands on them.

"In a month, I will let the kingdom be free to carry around guns. Before that time comes, I suggest you let your knights get familiar with them and be prepared to use one. Swords won’t be a match for guns. You need to adapt to protect yourself and those around you," said Tobias.

Tobias was already well-trained on how to use the many guns he got his hands on.

"The town is full of gossip after seeing another carriage like Edgar’s around the town. We won’t keep you any longer. Have a safe trip back to the border," Hazel said, bidding the two goodbye as Rafael’s carriage was the second to arrive.
