Chapter 425: Moving forward (2)

The first meeting for the truce continued with both sides saying what they wanted with many disagreements here and there. It was decided that with the most important part understood, which was the two sides not attacking each other, they would continue to add more to the truce the day Annalise and Rafael got married.

Annalise didn’t mind the truce not being completed today because her father might want to add or remove something after speaking with the king and queen.

They had used up a large portion of the day and now all Annalise wanted to do was go back home to her friends. If there was nothing more to be discussed with her or Rafael, they could start packing to return to the border to see her family.

Annalise enjoyed her day with the queen, duchess, and their friends, but she couldn’t stay longer when her family had to be worried about her. She had just returned to the border only to leave with Rafael again. She had to be a good daughter and leader to return to let everyone know she was safe.

"Let me borrow your arm for a moment," Annalise said, resting her head on Rafael’s arm. "I should be rewarded for staying calm and not hurting any of those old men. Normally, I would have pulled a knife out to stab one of them. My mother will be happy to hear that I did not."

"The carriage will be here soon for you to rest," Rafael said, putting his arm around Annalise so she wouldn’t fall if she drifted off to sleep while standing. He hoped to not be disturbed later after having to spend so much time with a group of people. Half of which he did not like.

"I hear someone coming. I hope it is not anyone from the court because the day might not end with me not stabbing someone. If it is Otto or Julius, protect them from me," Annalise said as there was still some anger for the two men lingering and should they say something now, she might not be able to hold onto her self-control.

She was trying her best to not attack anyone when the truce was so important to her, but they kept poking at her.

"Be rest assured that I have nothing to do with the court," Edgar said, walking to the couple with his hands up. "This would be a good time for a quick smoke."

"I’m sure you could find a cigar somewhere in the court. I don’t have any," Rafael said as cigars were never something he enjoyed.

He tried it once and never experienced what others enjoyed so he never attempted it again with cigars others say would suit him. It ended in him being called boring when he attended parties with men all around using cigars or drinking, but he wasn’t looking to be doing what everyone found fun.

"Then tomorrow I will be sending you a message that my wife isn’t speaking to me. Not only Alessandra, but Alfred becomes upset when Alessandra is upset. I can hardly wait for our child to be here so it won’t be two against one. I owe the two of you something for entertaining me today. Name it and I will get it," Edgar promised.

At first, he wasn’t thrilled about coming to the court, but he enjoyed his time there. Especially because it had nothing to do with him. Other than the cases the king gave him to solve, he was only here when someone was trying to be imprisoned for something he did, but they couldn’t prove that he did.

Annalise opened her eyes, but just as she was going to open her mouth to say she wanted one of his guns, Rafael’s hand covered her mouth.

"You two are...special," Edgar said, still curious about their relationship. He’d have to learn more about it next time they would be in Lockwood again or they could go on a trip somewhere.

As the weeks passed by, Edgar was going to start moving his wife to another home out of town so he would have to meet with Rafael elsewhere. He would seriously consider having a home built in the town Rafael was making, but only after the tension there was gone for Alessandra to be safe.

Rafael moved his hand from covering Annalise’s mouth. He was looking at Edgar so he missed the glare from the woman beside him. "We’ll be leaving town tomorrow if there isn’t any word from the palace about us needing to speak with the court again. We need to see her family."

"It’s a shame you won’t be around for the dinner Alessandra is planning. She was looking forward to spending some time with Annalise and seeing a kitten. I hope neither of you is planning to give my wife another cat when she already has two. She doesn’t need any more pets," said Edgar.

He had welcomed the two into his home because of what happened to the other cat Alessandra was caring for, but that was it. He didn’t want anything else running around his home. He missed the days when he didn’t need to worry about stepping on something small.

"I think the duchess deserves a puppy," Annalise said, keeping her promise to Alessandra. "Now that she is pregnant, you should get what she wants to make her happy and a dog would do just that."

Edgar stared at Annalise, silently changing his opinion of her. "Stay away from my wife," he said. He didn’t need any more people around who would be on Alessandra’s side. "What are your thoughts, Rafael?"

"I don’t think many pets are needed," Rafael honestly replied. He was in the same position as Edgar with whom Annalise wanted many pets and they were not the normal ones parents would let their children have. He had to join Edgar to stop the women from banding together to ask for more pets. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"See, this is why I like you. I’d like to stay and talk, but I have a wife and Alfred to get back to," Edgar said, walking forward to his carriage which was the first to arrive. "Try not to kill anyone. Wait until I am around."

"The duke can be strange, but I like him. I hope to get my gun from him one day and you cannot stop me. He should get the duchess a puppy. Honestly, why did we fall for men who wish to give us everything but the animals we love? You are no fun," Annalise said, stepping away from Rafael. "I feel like there are now many eyes on us waiting for us to get married."

"Don’t think about it too much. We will get married when it is a good time for us," Rafael said, hoping what was said today didn’t scare her off from wanting to marry him one day.

He would have preferred if it hadn’t come to their marriage getting brought up today when he was close to proposing to Annalise after they reached the border. The last thing he needed was for Annalise to think that his proposing to her had anything to do with the truce.

"If we cut their eyes out we wouldn’t need to worry about anyone watching us."

"Annalise," Rafael sighed. "Go back to leaning on me to rest."
