Chapter 386: Threat (1)

"I don’t think my father has any plans for my grandparents unless they come here troubling my mother in search of Travis. They should be silent as they were when Travis did as he liked with my mother. We need to leave," Rafael said, continuing to hold Annalise to carry her to the horses.

"Was it hard to get Travis? Was he a good fighter?" Annalise asked, curious about just how dangerous Travis was.

"He’s nothing like I thought. My mother kept warning me about him, but now I have realised that her description of dangerous and mine are far different. If not for his money and family name to control the people around him, he’s pathetic. Didn’t look like he could defeat anyone in a sword fight," Rafael answered.

Rafael wondered if Travis had been fooled. His mother said Travis had the best tutors to train him, but with how easy it was for Travis to be taken, Rafael wondered if Travis’s tutors went easy on him to avoid dealing with his spoiled behaviour. Making it seem like he was a good fighter. It was the only thing Rafael could come up with for why Travis was a poor fighter.

For how confident Travis was when he spoke as if Rafael would do as he wanted Rafael expected so much more tonight.

"That’s a shame. I thought he would have at least been a good fighter since he was terrible at planning a kidnapping. After watching the knights train for many years, shouldn’t your mother have realised that her brother wasn’t as good as she thought?" Annalise asked.

"My mother rarely watched the knights. She only came around when we were training to tell us to take a break. Her memory of Travis is from when she was younger and breaking an engagement her family wanted. That’s where her fear comes from. If she decides to see him now, she might see that he is nothing but a coward," said Rafael, hoping that she did to help get rid of her fears.

"I don’t think your mother would want to see him. I don’t see her as someone who would like to get revenge. How long will it be before your father kills Travis?" Annalise inquired. She hoped they wouldn’t keep him alive for too long after they’d tortured him.

"That is up to my father. Travis’s life will feel like hell for a while before he is killed. Killing Travis would be letting him off easy. It seems like he didn’t treat the people here well because one betrayed him and tried to fight the gun out of his hands," Rafael said, looking on as he spotted some knights moving with a large box they planned to hold Travis in to take him to his new home.

"That suits him. You should be kind to the people you want to protect you. Siena might have a lot to tell you so we should speak with her in the morning," Annalise said, resting her head on Rafael’s chest.

Now that the fight was over, she wanted to go to bed since she wouldn’t get to see River torture Travis tonight. River needed a moment with no one disturbing him so he could hit Travis as much as he wanted and not be stopped or have to care about who was watching.

"You are tired already and must be cold. My armour probably isn’t making it better for you. If Siena has a carriage, you can ride with her to sleep on the way back to the manor. Nothing exciting will happen for you to stay awake. You have a guest to entertain tomorrow and the town guards might pay us a visit so get some rest," Rafael said, urging her to sleep.

"You don’t know if something will happen on our way back. I need something warm to drink before I can fall asleep. I just look ready to sleep because you are holding me. Do you know when Logan and Siena became close or at least spoke? I wonder how distracted I was during the trip to not have noticed," Annalise said, looking ahead at the two standing together. "And is it only me who sees her maid loves her?"

"I don’t know," Rafael replied as he hadn’t been paying any attention to Siena, Logan, and her maid’s relationship. He wasn’t watching Logan back then to know if he spoke with Siena.

Now that Annalise mentioned it, he was reminded of what Travis said about Siena and a knight.

"I think her maid is in love with her and that is why she acts so stupid. Trying to keep Siena from getting close to anyone other than her. I say we put her maid in the same place as Travis."

"Annalise," Rafael warned.

"I don’t like the things she said to me when I saved her. If she was in danger when Siena was coming out the window and she had to jump, I would have stepped back to let her hit the ground. If she says anything about you making me the lady of the manor, I can’t promise you that nothing will happen to her. Just ignore the screams," Annalise said, plotting how she would deal with Kayla.

"Please do not try to kill her maid, Annalise. Let’s kill one person at a time. Have a talk with Siena about her maid’s behaviour. They will be guests in our home and cannot disrespect you so remind them of it. Refrain from using violence unless she tries to attack you," said Rafael.

"I will make no such promises. You can put me down now. You can go help your father if you need to but as soon as you are done, you need to come to the manor so we can go to bed. Herbert must be missing his parents," Annalise said, wondering if he had eaten the food she caught for him.

"For the last time, I am not a parent to a spider and how are you so sure that it is a he?" Rafael asked, putting Annalise down so she could get onto her horse.

Annalise shrugged her shoulders. "I just have a feeling. If I see babies in my old bedroom, then I will change the name. Go on and help your father. I will ride close to Ezra and Logan. Don’t get into any more fights involving a gun. Don’t push your luck so that you won’t get hit. And don’t stay out so long leaving me in bed alone."

"Yes dear," Rafael replied as he felt like he was being ordered around by his wife.

Annalise glared at Rafael for his tone. "Don’t try me when I am in the mood to fight someone. Go on and bond with your father over doing a kidnapping. I wish my father would do the same with me. Knocking someone out, tying them up, and taking them to a terrible place. I envy you."

Annalise got up on her horse, ready to leave to be back inside the warm manor. Ezra was already on his horse and all she was waiting for was the two shy love birds to decide if Siena was riding alone on Logan’s horse or if he would ride behind her on the horse.

’At least I have some entertainment on the way back,’ Annalise thought.

As Annalise watched Logan and Siena talk about how she would get to the manor, her eyes eventually met with Kayla’s. There was a scowl on the woman’s face which shouldn’t be there since Annalise had offered to let them stay in the manor.

’She’s not going to be around long,’ Annalise said to herself, knowing Kayla would be just as stupid as Aria.
