Chapter 81: Chapter 81

The gold of her eyes darkened in anger. "Oh, I get it. Things are going to be so bad for you if anyone knows, isn’t that it? That’s how it’s always been with you, and I get it. But the thing is I don’t care! I don’t even want to be here, not with you!"

She shoved him roughly and stormed past him. Right near the almost floor-length glass window that was yet to be curtained, she slammed her fist into it.

Every soul in that room watched as the glasses came undone, shattering to the floor in pieces. She turned and stared at Keelion who began storming towards her.

"You’re out of your mind!"

"So what?" she screamed at him. "What else do you want from me? You think I care? The one important thing to me was taken from me and you think I care about whatever you say?"

Keelion snatched her by the hack of her hair, pulling her close enough that their bodies were basically gummed together. He said, growling, "You’ve got to calm the fuck down!" And he lifted her with ease, throwing her over his shoulder blade.

She grunted as his shoulder slammed into her stomach.

"GET BACK TO WORK!" he bellowed at the staff, and every single one of them, as if snapped out of their trance, began to hurry back and forth. The entire place was chaotic.

Keelion stormed up the flight of stairs with anger in every step taken and he took a detour for the hallway. Alexis lifted her gaze and right in front of her was Althea, standing quite a distance at the balcony connected to the flight of stairs within the foyer.

She’d seen everything.

But that wasn’t what caught her attention. It was rather the balling of her hands and then the sudden smile that crossed her face.

It was...sinister.

"Put me down," Alexis demanded.

Keelion’s grip on her thighs tightened.

"Keelion, put me down. Let go of me!" She gripped his suit jacket and fought as hard as she could to get out of his hold, but the man wasn’t budging.

His steps didn’t falter. There weren’t even any signs that he was struggling with her wiggles. If anything, his grip on her tightened and his muscles bunched in obvious anger.

Panting with exhaustion, she hung limp on his shoulder. She’d tried everything, hitting him, kicking as hard she could, wiggling, whatever she could do, but he just wouldn’t let go.

"You just want to drive me out of my mind," Keelion said silkily as he kicked open the door of his room. He stormed inside and shut the door, locking it.

"Put me down!"

He did this time around, but he was quick to slam her right against the wall, his finger running into the back of her hair for a tight grip.

"Have you lost your mind?" he questioned. "I didn’t say you could work. Your mother just died, what were you thinking?"

"What did you want me to do? Huh?" she asked. "Sit inside and mope? What will that do for me? Do you think that’s a better option?"

"Of course, it’s not a better option. But maybe it is if you were just going to cause problems. Do you even know what you’ve done?"

"Cause problems?"

Alexis averted her gaze from him in disbelief and amusement crossed her face for a second before she looked at him again. "I don’t care."

"You may not do now, but you will later on. You’re exposing yourself and if anyone finds out—"

"I said I don’t care!"

"You have to!" he snarled at her. "I told you that I’ll find out who did it and I’ll kill them if you want me to—"

"I don’t need you to." Alexis shook her head at him, the glint in her eyes cruel and bloodthirsty. "I’ll find who took my mother from me, myself. And I’ll kill them with my very own hands."

"Alexis—"

She smacked his hand off and stepped away from him. "I’m leaving this place."

"What?" Keelion turned and grabbed her hand, spinning her on her feet.

"I’m leaving. I don’t want to be here anymore," she said to him. "If I hadn’t come here in the first place if I hadn’t met you, I think my mother would be just fine. All this is my fault and the more I stay here, the more I’m going to hate it!"

"You’re not leaving," he affirmed, grabbing her by her tie and pulling her close enough that the warmth of his breath fanned her face. "You cannot leave me."

"I can, and I will." Alexis unbuttoned the first button of her shirt and pulled it down enough to expose her neck to him. "The mating mark, it’s gone. You don’t have anything with me anymore, and neither do I. You can reject me now because I need you to before I leave."

The look in his eyes was like something she’d never seen before. It was a mix of anger, pain, and something else she couldn’t understand.

She watched the white of his eyes turn entirely black, causing her to take a step back.

His breathing was loud and ragged, and his chest heaved with every step he took towards her. He wasn’t tired—if anything, Keelion seemed unrestrained, like he was losing it and trying to gain back control over himself.

"So what if the mating mark is gone?"

Alexis shivered.

Her skin tingled at his sudden touch as his hand came around her throat, so weirdly gentle, it was like the opposite of the expression on his face. His thumb rubbed the skin of her throat and he leaned in, enough that his face ghosted above hers, his lips touching her just ever so slightly.

"I make the rules around here, Alexis. And you can’t leave, not unless I say so. I am the only person that will decide if you can leave or not."

She breathed. "Keelion—"

"You’re mine. I own you and you belong to me. You, Alexis, you were made for me. Don’t you dare go thinking that a stupid mark is the only thing that will ever decide it," he growled darkly, shifting his head so his stubble scraped against the side of her face.

He turned and stormed out of the room, slamming the door shut.

Alexis breathed out immediately. She hadn’t even realized that she’d been holding her breath.

She dropped to her knees and clutched her chest, bending as sudden pain erupted inside of her.

It felt as if she was being torn in two—the pain was so excruciating she began sobbing, curling on the floor like a ball, until every bone in her body eased, the pain beginning to fade.

"It...it hurts." She gradually blinked apart her wet eyes only to find Sereia lying next to her.

Alexis quickly shot up and crawled toward her. "Sereia. Sereia."

But Reia wasn’t responding.

She was unconscious.

Alexis gathered her in her arms, holding her and hugging onto her. "Please..."

"...Please don’t leave me."
