Chapter 69: Chapter 69

Alexis adjusted the tie beneath the collar of her shirt and buttoned up her suit. She left the empty dorm and hurried over to Keelion’s bedroom where she was sure he had yet to leave.

She left a few light knocks on the door.

"Come in," he permitted as if he knew it was her. And she was sure he did because he could smell her scent.

She stepped inside and shut the door behind her. Then she lifted her gaze towards Keelion who was slipping into his shirt.

"What is it?" he asked, eyes never meeting hers.

Alexis didn’t move, but when she did, she found herself gliding towards him until she stood just an inch away from him, the man pausing to slowly stare at her.

"What...are you doing?" He was confused.

As much as she was an open book, sometimes she bemused him with her actions.

Alexis didn’t say a word and instead grabbed the hem of his shirt and slowly began to button it up for him. Keelion watched her, eyes never leaving her for even a second, not even when she got to the last button where she had no other choice but to meet his gaze.

She quickly avoided his eyes and lowered her head as if to hide the red that had crept up all over her cheek and the tip of her ears. She let go and proceeded to step back, but he grasped her hand, pulling her back into her spot.

"Aren’t you going to finish what you started?" he asked.

She rapidly blinked at him. "Huh?"

He nodded to the tie on the bed. "Go ahead."

Alexis peered at him. He wasn’t...joking. She knew she could be impulsive sometimes and just like now she wasn’t sure why she had moved towards him and buttoned up his shirt for him.

What was she thinking?

She picked up his tie and to reach his neck, she proceeded to go on her tippy toes, but then Keelion bowed enough down to her height for her to do it, a light look of amusement flickering in his eyes. How short.

He straightened up and she knotted it, then cleared her throat and breathed out softly, gaze lowered to her feet again.

Keelion slanted his head as he peered at her and slowly carded his fingers through her hair. He trailed down to her ear, rubbing the reddish tip for a second before cupping her cheek.

Alexis looked into his eyes, clueless of what he was doing. He was leaning into her, and for a second she thought he was going to kiss her, but then he didn’t. Instead, he bit...her cheek? But not enough to cause any kind of harm. It was as if munching on something.

Her lashes fluttered, her body frozen as she stood there, unable to think or comprehend.

Keelion’s fingers ruffled her hair and then he walked past her, grabbing his suit vest to slip into it.

She quickly spun around on her feet and hurried over to grab his arm, stopping him. He glanced at her. "What?"

She plucked a letter out of her pocket and slipped it into his palm. "Could you...give this to my mother? I’m not sure why, but I’m a bit worried about her. B-but I also want her to know I’m doing okay. So if you could...please give it to her...I’ll also call her later. I just don’t want to forget the things I want to say to her."

Her eyes were big and pleading.

Keelion eyed the letter and then looked at her, before nodding. "Okay."

A smile immediately emerged on her face but vanished when he cocked a brow at her. She asked, "W-what?"

The man stepped closer to her. "You wanted me to do this for you, is that why you dressed me up?"

"Huh?" Her eyes grew wide and she quickly waved defensive hands at him."Of course not. I just wanted to. I was going to ask you either way."

Her smile was crooked.

How cute... Keelion narrowed his eyes at her, and the sudden pang of his heartbeat made him take a step back, turning his back on her, and leaving the room. The door was heavily slammed shut.

Alexis blinked. What just...happened?

She was sure he wasn’t mad...

Keelion stood outside the door for a few seconds, a confused frown on his face. What the heck was wrong with him?

He rubbed his chest and adjusted his suit, before walking off.

Eleni kept the cup of tea beside the delicacies she’d made and left on the small dining table. She was about to take a seat, but then the doorbell rang and she glanced at the door.

Who was visiting? Alexis? Probably, because no one knew she lived here.

Her lips curled into a smile and she made her way to the door, pulling it open. She wasn’t met with Alexis, but instead Keelion who stood with his hands shoved into the pocket of his pants.

"Oh, hello!" Eleni quickly proceeded to bow to him, but he didn’t let her, a rather soft expression on his face.

"There is no need for that," he said and took the letter out of his pocket. "She wanted me to give you this." He handed it over to her. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Eleni received the letter from him. "Alexis?"

"Yes, ma’am."

"Thank you." She smiled at him. And he couldn’t help but notice just how they had very similar smiles. Alexis had her eyes too. Light brown with pretty green freckles in them.

He turned to take his leave, but the woman grabbed his arm, stopping him.

Keelion glanced at her inquisitively.

Her expression was warm and inviting. "Do you have to leave now?"

"Why?" he asked.

"You can stay for a little bit. I made lunch if you would like to have some."

"Oh..." Keelion was a bit reluctant, but looking at her face, he wasn’t sure why he couldn’t bring himself to say no and leave. So he accepted and stepped inside with her, walking over to the dining and taking a seat opposite her.

The food smelt great and tasted so good. Like a mother’s cooking. It felt quite nostalgic to him, but he didn’t want to dive into any memory that had anything to do with his past.

"Alexis is okay. She’s doing okay, in case you’re worried," he suddenly said, his eyes rising to her.

Eleni’s gaze became a bit distant. "Is that so? I have been quite worried. I do miss her a lot. But I’m glad that she is doing just fine."

"She is," he responded. "She’s better too. She’s improved and I’m sure...you would be proud of her if you saw her progress."

"Aish, I don’t need to." Eleni chuckled. "I’ve always been very proud of my daughter, my sweet child. She’s a strong girl."

"I agree."

She looked at him and slowly asked, "Do you...like it?"

Keelion lowered his gaze to the food he was eating and nodded. "Mhm, it’s delicious."

"You remind me of my mother," he added before he could think.

Eleni seemed surprised, but then she smiled warmly at him. "Is that so?"

"She was a great mother."

"Where is she now?"
