Chapter 65: Chapter 65

The man’s hand reached out and gripped her jaw, tilting her head from side to side. "A beta, huh?"

Alexis quickly slapped his hand off. "Don’t touch me!" she glared at him and reached over to snatch her phone.

The man who however had a height advantage lifted his hand, keeping the phone from her reach. Then he grabbed her abruptly by the hair, so roughly, it’d hurt. "I don’t like your attitude. It’s very bad customer service, you know."

"Let go of me." Alexis gripped his wrist and tried to break away from his gasp. Sometimes people like him come here, troublemakers or whatever they could be called that just mess with anyone. But the thing was that none of them had ever messed with her, this one was the first.

The man let out a soft chuckle. "I would actually hurt you for this very bad customer service, but I don’t want to, especially your pretty face. You’re very pretty to be a beta, you know. Prettier than even omegas. I never would have believed it if not because you didn’t have a scent.

Then he let go of her hair and leaned into her space, flashing his cigarette-reeked teeth. "Would you like to play with me? Don’t worry, you won’t get hurt, it’s just a little silly—"

Someone grasped him, fisted his hair, and without warning, slammed his face right into the counter. The person didn’t stop, continually beating his face to the counter until blood splattered all over enough for panicked Alexis to lift her head, locking gazes with a familiar set of blues.

Her mouth was snapped open in horror. freēnovelkiss.com

"K-keelion?"

"Didn’t I tell you to call me every thirty minutes?" Keelion questioned, seeming pissed off.

He glanced at the man who was a bloody mess and passed out. Irritation crossed his eyes and he smashed his face into the counter one more time before tossing him aside on the floor.

He plucked his handkerchief out of his pocket and began wiping off whatever blood got on his hand. Then he looked at Alexis whose gaze was ping-ponging between him and the man who was fighting for his life on the floor.

"I-isn’t he going to die?" she asked.

He glared at her. "Get out of there."

"Why? My shift—"

"Get out of there, Alexis, and don’t make me repeat myself."

She nodded without hesitation and walked out from behind the counter. He took the apron off her and handed the phone back to her.

"Why did you miss calling me for the past thirty minutes?" he questioned, a brow arched at her.

She gave him an awkward crooked smile. "I forgot..."

"Why are you smiling at me?" Keelion narrowed his eyes on her.

Her smile fell immediately.

"I told you to call me every thirty minutes no matter what you are doing. You can’t forget—"

"Why?"

"Because it’s my way of keeping you safe!" he snapped and turned away from her to run his fingers through his hair.

Alexis stared at his large frame and slowly cracked a smile that didn’t disappear even when he turned to look at her.

"You think this is funny?"

"No." She shook her head. "I’m just...happy."

"Happy about what?" He furrowed his brows as if every word she spoke was pissing him off.

Alexis cleared her throat and fidgeted with the hem of her shirt a little bit. "You...care for me."

Keelion’s brow shot up. Care? Did he?

His eyes stayed impossibly wide so much so that Alexis who was staring at him got confused, tilting her head. "Keelion?"

"What?"

She pursed her lip, her looks alone asking if he was okay.

The man quickly looked away and turned his back on her. His eyes flickered at the sudden weird pang of feeling in his chest, and then his heart began to beat so suddenly, rapidly, and loudly for no reason.

"What the fuck?!" he grounded out.

Alexis glanced around, unsure what was going on. She stepped closer to him and moved over to stand in front of him. "Keelion, are you—"

"We’re going home," he said to her and grasped her hand before she could say another word.

She glanced beside her at the store. "Let me tell my co-worker that—"

"I said we’re going home." His grip grew tighter on her hand.

Alexis peered at his frame and slowly lowered her gaze to where he held her. Home... He called it home...

Her teeth dug into her lip, stifling the tiny smile that almost slipped out and she proceeded to weave her fingers with his. This made Keelion pause for a second, but he didn’t say a word nor let go.

Instead, he held tighter, walking her to his car. However, right after he buckled her seatbelt, her stomach made a rumbling sound, causing the both of them to stare at each other.

She flashes an awkward smile. "I didn’t...eat enough before I left."

"I can see that."

...

They walked over to one of the empty chairs in Keelion’s owned restaurant and she took a seat opposite him. He’d made some order and now she was just waiting, tapping the heel of her feet on the marble floor impatiently.

"You really like food, don’t you?" Keelion asked, his gaze curious.

She peeked at him with a sure expression. "Of course I do. They even...make me happy."

"Good evening, Alpha, good evening ms." The waiter who’d arrived with a food trolley served the table and bowed. "Please have a good dinner." And then he left.

Alexis glanced at Keelion.

"Go ahead," he said.

She picked up a spoon and proceeded to eat to her heart’s content. The man watched her in pure silence, unable to comprehend how she consumed so much food as if she’d been starved for five good days.

Everything on the table was gone. Not that he was interested. He’d brought her here to feed her anyway. Still, it was fascinating.

"You would be quite cute too if you were chubby."

She blinked up at him. "Huh?" She swallowed her food.

"Nothing." Keelion folded his arms. "How do you eat so much?"

"I don’t know." Alexis shrugged with a smile. "I just enjoy eating. It’s the only thing that doesn’t stress me out."

He raised a brow. Stress you out?

"Is it a problem?" She peeked at him.

He shook his head thoughtfully. "No, if anything, I’m satisfied that you enjoy eating." It makes me happy. "You’re healthier than you looked before."

His hand shot out before he could think, weaving through her curls and patting her head.

She held eye contact with him, the spoon paused at her lips. Her lashes flickered and before she knew it, her entire face grew so hot, she looked like a boiling kettle.

Keelion had to stifle the chuckle that almost slipped free.
