The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 63
Chapter 63: Chapter 63
"I wasn’t born in this pack," Augustus said.
Alexis’s eyes went slightly wide. How come? If he wasn’t, then why was he here? Wolves from other packs had never been allowed to join another pack, so how come?
"I used to belong to a different pack, where I was born, but after my family was accused of something they didn’t do, something I still don’t believe they did, the alpha had them killed. As for me, I managed to run with my sister, but they still went after me and I lost my sister eventually. I don’t know if she’s still alive or if they kill her."
There was a pause and he breathed.
"I’d been really wounded and of course they were going to kill me. Keelion Fane saved me. He didn’t know me, I meant nothing to him, but he saved me, he was willing to kill wolves of another pack and brought me here with him. It’s been my job since then to look out for his life, I didn’t care and don’t care whether he needed it or not."
He continued, "My loyalty lies with him, he owns my life. I would give my life for him, that is how much the alpha means to me. You were a danger, I didn’t know what you were, couldn’t figure a thing out no matter how hard I tried. Keelion Fane was protecting you, but I was worried. I would turn the entire mansion upside down if I ever felt like his life was in danger and I did with what happened recently. People will talk when they find out you’ve been let off the hook despite putting your hands on an omega that would be his luna."
Augustus paused and balled his uninjured hands into fists. "I wanted to find out why or what exactly had got him obsessed to keep him from thinking straight—to ignore the fact that even if not to his face, he would be criticized. Only he and I are aware you’re a woman, an outcast—"
Alexis inhaled sharply, taking a step back.
He knew! Keelion told him! Why? Why would he do that, what if Augustus—
"Relax. You have nothing to worry about. If you could just listen to me till the end," he said to her as he took a deep breath. "As I was saying, none of this is an excuse for what I’ve done. Sincerely, I am sorry, but I won’t ask you to forgive me, because I don’t think I deserve it."
Then he looked at her, the expression in his eyes genuinely apologetic. "I’ll protect you. From now onward, you own my life just as much as Keelion Fane does. I would give my life first before yours even in a life-and-death situation. I’ll see to your absolute protection within this place and I’ll make sure you don’t get hurt in any way."
Now, Alexis was beyond confused.
What the heck was going on?
She’d come in here, expecting something other than this. Where were all these coming from and why was Augustus being like this?
"Sir—"
"Augustus," he interrupted her. "Please just call me Augustus, Alexis." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
She slowly shook her head. "I don’t...I don’t understand what is going on."
"It’s the alpha’s order. He has handed me over to you and I belong to you now. Use me however you want. Your protection is my job."
Alexis didn’t know what to say. She just stood staring at him, and even after a minute had passed, she still couldn’t utter a word.
"I...I think I should...go."
He didn’t stop her, watching as she turned and left the room. Alexis breathed against the door for a few minutes before deciding to find Keelion.
Why would he do this?
She arrived back at the room, but he was nowhere to be found. Then she decided to try his office, and right there, he was. She knocked on the door and his voice came, permitting, "Come in."
He sounded rather annoyed and she wasn’t sure why.
Alexis stepped into the office but stopped short at the sight of Althea who stood in that same room glaring at Keelion who rather held an irritated expression.
This was bad timing—she shouldn’t have come in. Were they deciding how she would be dealt with for what she did?
"I should go," she said to Keelion. "I’ll return—"
"Where do you think you’re going?" The band-aid on Althea’s nose bridge coiled along with her face that she screwed. She took threatening steps toward her and Alexis knew better than to not apologize.
Apologizing would fix all this, and even if not completely, it would just a little bit. So she bowed as deeply as possible and apologized as sincerely as she could, "I’m sorry, I’m really sorry for what I did. I didn’t know what came over me, but I never meant to hu—"
"Hey," Althea called.
And the second Alexis lifted her head. Crack. A painful slap broke against her cheek, so loud that Keelion’s eyes flashed between black and blue immediately.
Not even he had expected her to do that.
Althea held a look of disgust on her face. "Who said I want your apology? You dare put your hands on me like that and you think an apology will solve it? If anything, I want you...killed for it."
Alexis’s left eye twitched. She looked at her, hands balling into fists at an emotion she couldn’t comprehend boiling inside of her.
"What?"
Althea cocked a brow at her. "What are you looking at me like that for? Huh?" She stepped into her space, proceeding to repeat the slap yet again.
This time though, she was grasped very roughly, causing her to wince in pain and the person who was Keelion Fane, snarled at her so viciously, that she wasn’t sure why she felt her soul flee her body for a moment.
Keelion shoved her back angrily, letting go of her hand. "Don’t ever put your fucking hands on him. Had you been anyone else, you won’t be able to make use of that hand again."
"W-what?" Althea blinked at him, in pure disbelief of what he’d said.
Keelion turned towards Alexis and lifted his hand to her cheek, brushing his thumb against the slight reddish bruise.
"We’ll speak later, go."
Alexis met his eyes, but she nodded and left the office, closing the door behind her.
"Are you kidding me?" Althea questioned like she couldn’t even believe what the heck she’d just had to witness. "The way you just...touched him. Fane, what are you doing?"
