Chapter 55: Chapter 55

They’d jogged three miles since they started and for some reason, Alexis wasn’t sure why Althea was doing this so well.

She was already feeling like she could collapse on the floor. Her breaths came out in ragged, frosty puffs. "I could—I could never—I could never get used to this."

Sereia shot her an unimpressed look. "You’re embarrassing us."

"W—what do you—what do you mean by that?"

"She’s ahead of us. She really runs better than you do. I am so disappointed."

"Oh please—s-shut up."

Alexis coughed miserably, her legs that she couldn’t move anymore, failing her. She fell to her knees and began coughing frantically, drool pouring from the side of her mouth.

"Ew. You do not look anything beautiful right now."

"Can’t you...can’t you pity me right now?" She rubbed her chest, trying to even her breathing.

Sereia made a face. "The way you look...I would impulsively reject you were I Keelion. Good thing he is far ahead. Your humiliation affects me too," she groaned and moved closer to her.

"Do you feel okay? Take it easy with coughing. Try to catch your breath through your mou—"

"Aren’t you ashamed?"

Alexis paused and slowly lifted her head. Althea was staring her down, derision in her gaze.

Her hand balled into fists, but she was too out of breath, too tired to even tolerate any of this. So she forced herself to her feet and proceeded to continue running. Althea however wasn’t just going to let her ignore her just like that.

"I’m talking to you!" She stormed towards her and grasped her by the arm, spinning her around. "What do you want from Keelion? Why the heck are you clinging to him?"

Alexis scowled at her. "I don’t know what you’re talking about, please let go of me."

But Althea wouldn’t. If anything, her grip tightened, and she stepped closer into her space, a furious look painting her expression. "Keelion favors you, yes, but you know what pisses me off? The way you keep clinging to him. Do you realize that he has me? His luna, how dare you?"

At this point, Alexis was beginning to grow angrier at the situation. "I am not clinging to him, and I don’t care whether you are his Luna or not. I don’t know what you want from me, leave me alone."

"You don’t know what I want from you?" Althea laughed. "Stay away from Keelion and I mean it. Leave this place if you have to, because to be honest, the longer you piss me off around her, the more your days are numbered. Your presence ticks me off and I don’t want to see you around here or around Keelion."

Alexis stared at her.

"This bitch is really getting on my nerves, kid. If anyone should have to go, it’s her. Keelion is our mate, who does she think she is?" Sereia snarled at the woman who clearly couldn’t see or hear her.

"I don’t think you want to stay around when I become his luna." Althea squeezed tighter on her hand leaning in to whisper, "Because you’ll be the first thing I’ll get rid of. I’m giving you a chance, and being generous is not my thing."

Alexis shoved back from her, snatching her hand in the process. She peered at Althea like she’d lost her mind and despite how frustrating the entire situation was, she swallowed her anger.

She turned around and began to walk off to continue from where she stopped.

How was she the one who needed to leave? Keelion was rightfully her mate—he belonged to her. Who the hell did she think she was?

If she hadn’t been born an outcast, she would be the one to stand by Keelion’s side. This woman wouldn’t even exist in her picture.

Balled fists trembled in suppressed frustration and she began to slowly pick up her pace, suddenly determined to get to the end of the run where Keelion was waiting. But then—

She was pushed. Someone pushed her so hard she tripped on her own feet, falling face flat on the concrete road, the rough surface scratching painfully against her forehead.

A pained groan fled her throat and she lowered her gaze to her arms which were beginning to bleed.

"You’re not going to tell him I pushed you, will you?" Althea asked, pink lips stretching into the cruelest of smiles. "No one will believe you though, he wouldn’t. How can a little weak omega like me hurt a beta like you? Doesn’t that sound ridiculous to you?"

"Kid—"

"Take care of that wound, so it doesn’t get infected." Her smile grew wider and bubbles of soft mocking laughter fled her mouth. She walked past Alexis, proceeding to continue her run from where she stopped.

Alexis knelt on the harsh ground, shoulders rising and falling in heavy breathing. The rage burning inside of her, it felt like it could explode, blowing her to smithereens. Why did everyone feel like it was okay to bully her?

So what if she was an outcast, did it mean she should tolerate them? There was her father, there was Cyrus, and now it was this woman—someone she hadn’t even offended in any way.

"Kid." Reia moved closer to her with a look of concern. "Are you in any pain? Maybe we should wait here for Keelion to—"

Alexis rose to her feet, whirled, and began storming towards Althea. ’She had no right to hurt me!’ She didn’t stop walking, picking up her pace until she got close enough to snatch Althea by the hand and spin her around.

Her fist slammed into the side of her stupid face.

"I told you to leave me alone!"

Althea staggered back from the force.

"Did you...did you just punch me?" she asked in shock. "How dare you? How dare you touch me?!!!" She clutched her face, eyes wide and painted in shock.

That wasn’t the end of it, not with Alexis, because as if possessed, she shoved Althea back, so hard, the woman fell to the floor on her butt. She got on top of her and began punching her in the face repeatedly, so much so that Sereia, who had not in any way expected what she was witnessing, widened her eyes, horrified.

But not in the hype, it was rather in fear.
