The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 54
Chapter 54: Chapter 54
Alexis sat up on her bed and blinked around the not-so-very-bright room she shared with Augustus and Lyndon.
"Sereia?" she whispered.
Sereia, who was fast asleep, curled next to her, stretched her body, and massaged her paws on the bed before glancing at her. "What?"
"We have a run with Keelion this morning. Do you think I should pretend I overslept?" she asked.
Sereia sighed. "Alexis, we’re going on a run. You know I will never support you on this. Stop indulging me!"
Alexis furrowed her brows at her and grunted under her breath. "You could be nice to me for once," she mumbled quietly and grabbed the ladder to get down to the floor.
Sereia scoffed, "Oh I’m always nice to you, kid. You don’t know how mean I can be."
"I’m not exactly surprised," Alexis muttered her response as she grabbed the running shoes she’d set aside, slipping her feet into them.
Sereia pounced to the floor and snarled playfully at her.
"You were such an innocent princess when I first talked to you it was almost pitiful. Look at you now, all that confidence, that tone, defending yourself. I feel like a proud mother."
"Proud mother?" Alexis eyed her. "Aren’t you the same age as me?"
"You brat, of course, I’m not. Do you think that just because I’m your wolf, I’m as young as you?"
"Yes... I’m not sure what wolf is older than their other half?"
"You’re right, normally a wolf can’t be older than its human-like half. Like I told you, once the child is born, the wolf comes into existence too and grows alongside the child until they can merge at sixteen."
"So then, what is wrong with you?" Alexis asked as she stood up from the bed.
"I’m really not sure." The look on Reia’s face was serious. "I don’t have my memories, I haven’t been able to remember a thing, but when you were born and I paired with you, I wasn’t a baby or something."
"That makes no sense."
Alexis shook her head, rather getting confused.
"It doesn’t make sense to me either. I’ve been roaming around before I even met you the very day you were born. But I don’t recall a single thing about myself, not my age or why I never had a host until you. It’s quite literally impossible." Sereia hissed a bit in deep thought. "Kid, don’t you think it’s strange that something is abnormal about the both of us?"
Alexis’s face screwed into a slight frown and she fisted her hands, breathing out. ’We’re an outcast. We wouldn’t be in the first place if we weren’t abnormal."
Sereia snorted in displeasure. "I’m not exactly comfortable with you accepting we are outcasts. We could be special or something. I just need to get my memories back, you know."
’I don’t think that will change anything. If you get your memories back, would I be able to shift? Manifest properly into an omega with you finally joined to me?’
Sereia stared at her, slight sympathy flickering in the golden specks of her eyes. "Probably not. But don’t worry kid, joined or not, I’m always going to be here, you and me."
"You can’t be too sure about that." Her voice was a bit shaky. And she headed to the door, leaving Sereia to stare at her back.
Sereia moved after her. "I’m your wolf, I can’t possibly ever separate from you. Besides sometimes when I disappear, it’s because I need to properly recuperate because it’s a bit straining being separated from you physically. But don’t let it bother you though, it’s not threatening, it just makes me feel weak some—"
It was the sound of Keelion’s door opening. Without a doubt, the man was coming out for their run, but then, there was another sudden voice, which had clearly made Alexis stop on her feet.
"Where are you going?" The one who spoke was Keelion—a rough deepened voice that she would recognize even in her sleep.
"I want to run with you." Althea smiled up at the man, going on her tiptoe, a flirty expression on her face.
Keelion was in no way affected by it. He seemed rather unimpressed, head-turning suddenly enough that his eyes locked with her.
Alexis flinched slightly and swallowed the bile in her throat. Since when did seeing him with Althea bring a bitter taste to her mouth? She shouldn’t care even if he was her mate, because that would be her setting herself up for failure since all these were temporary.
"Come here," the order came suddenly.
Althea turned her gaze towards her and like a curtain, the flirty expression on her face vanished, replaced with instant burning rage.
For some reason, it further pissed Alexis off, and she walked over to Keelion, lifting her eyes to his face.
"Keelion, what is he doing—"
"I was initially going to run with him," he said. "Alone."
Then he proceeded to add, "You’re free to join regardless."
The man turned and began to walk to the spiral of stairs, his hands stuck into the pocket of his sweat.
Althea took a threatening step towards Alexis and snatched her roughly by the chin. "You better keep your distance from him, because I’ll make you regret it if you come anywhere close to him."
Sereia growled at her. "Bitch!"
Alexis held no expression. Her face was rather blank, and it was unclear whether she was affected by the woman’s threat or not.
Althea sneered in her face like she was some filth and turned, storming after Keelion.
"One day is going to be ours and I’ll tear her to pieces!" Sereia growled animalistically.
A soft smile emerged on Alexis’s lips and she bent down a little bit, running her fingers through her soft golden furs. "We can’t cause trouble here. If we die, all our hard work would be for nothing." she straightened up and turned to head for the stairs. "Let’s go."
Sereia stared at her.
Compared to when she’d first spoken to her, she somehow felt like the more time Alexis spent with her, the more mature she seemed to become. She had better control over her emotions now—over both their emotions.
Maybe one way or the other, they would possibly make it out of this mess and still by some miracle keep their mate.
They had to.
Keelion was the only one capable of protecting them.
