The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 47
Chapter 47: Chapter 47
The staff and even the maids were hurrying back and forth and Alexis, who was clueless of what could be going on, glanced around with a confused expression on her face.
"Why is everyone hurrying around today?"
"I think someone important is coming here." Sereia who stood next to her spoke.
"They must be really important then," she mumbled and turned around to inquire from any of the closest staff, but then she was met face to face with Damian.
Since the issue with Cyrus, he’d been avoiding her and even when they made eye contact, he pretended like he didn’t see her.
"I—"
Damian walked off before she could utter a word and she stood there, staring at nothing, confused. "I didn’t even do anything wrong."
"Of course you didn’t." The sudden voice belonged to Kaelis who as usual held a neutral look on his face. "The two had some kind of history together, I don’t know what it is, but that’s why he’s being an asshole to you right now, even though he knows what happened to Cyrus wasn’t your fault. He just needs someone to blame, so ignore—"
"Everyone!"
Lyndon, who’d stepped into the foyer, bellowed, "Outside, now! We have a guest to welcome."
The two glanced at each other and began to leave the foyer. "Is it someone important?" Alexis asked.
Kaelis arched a brow at her. "You don’t know whose coming?"
"No." She reluctantly shook her head. "Am I...supposed to?"
He was just about to answer her, but all fifty-six staff of the alpha’s mansion had already lined up on either side, from the gate to the very entrance of the mansion.
Alexis lined up right next to Kaelis and as soon as the gate was opened, every single one of them bowed as deeply as they would to Keelion.
Footsteps could be heard, but no one looked up. Alexis however couldn’t help it, peeking up to satisfy her curiosity.
A man equally as tall and large as Keelion came into her view. Fine black strands of hair were left in a man bun, hands tucked into the pocket of his slacks.
Who was he? He looked really important.
"Stop looking at him, kid."
She parted her lips but then stiffened as the man’s crimson eyes suddenly fell directly on her light brownish ones. She fluttered her lashes and quickly averted her gaze, her chest pounding like she’d just seen a ghost.
She wasn’t sure what it was, but there was something heavily frightening about the man. Who is he?
"Rise." The voice belonged to Augustus. They straightened up and watched as he began making his way over to the man.
He arrived before the man and bowed respectfully before rising.
"Fane?" The man’s rough deepened voice like a cloud of smoke in the night filled Alexis’s ears and she stared at him.
Augustus responded to him, "The alpha is waiting in the office." There was no tinge of apology in his tone. She wasn’t stupid not to notice the stiff tension. Keelion should have come instead of Augustus to see the man, but Keelion was nowhere to be seen.
"Well, he wouldn’t be Fane if he came to see me himself. That’s just who he is." The man cackled and followed Augustus as they made their way into the mansion.
As soon as they were out of sight, everyone began murmuring between each other.
"Who is he?"
Kaelis, who was beside her, explained, "He’s Lorcan Zarr."
"Lorcan Zarr?—"
"Lower your voice." He threw a hand over her mouth, frowning at her.
Alexis was confused, blinking rapidly. What the heck was going on?
"Lorcan Zarr," Kaelis proceeded to explain in a low tone, "He’s the alpha of the Red Tears Pack. He may not be a supreme alpha like our alpha, but he’s frightening, incredibly so. Our alpha is apparently the only one who doesn’t fear him. As for the alphas of other packs, they are afraid of him, like really afraid of him. That’s why our alpha does business with him. Terrifying, but he’s of use."
He cleared his throat. "You didn’t hear me say that. If you get into trouble, I’ll deny you."
Alexis furrowed her brows at him, but then she asked. "Why is he here?"
"Business probably. Though I’m not exactly sure what it is. None of us knows."
She slowly nodded her head.
"Everyone, get back to work! No mistakes are allowed! The gala’s in a few weeks!"
"Yes sir!" Everyone spoke in unison.
Throughout her work, Alexis couldn’t stop pondering what Kaelis had said. How powerful would a standard alpha be to the extent that every other pack feared him? freewebnøvel.com
Everyone found Keelion frightening—that made sense. It was reasonable since he was the only existing supreme alpha. But Lorcan Zarr? What about him made him terrifying enough that even Keelion held him in high regard?
"High regard?" Sereia, who was following her down the hallway, scoffed. "If Keelion held him in high regard, I’m sure he would have come out to escort him himself. Instead, he sent his personal man. Use your brain, Kid."
Alexis inhaled. "Still though, that—"
"Alexis."
She halted and turned at the sound of her name. "Yes?" It was Augustus.
"Drop this in the alpha’s office." Augustus handed a document to her. "I have something important to do."
He didn’t wait for a word from her and walked off hurriedly, hands balled into a fist.
"Is something going on?"
"That Lorcan’s presence here is definitely not very flowery."
Who exactly was Lorcan Zarr?
Alexis walked off, heading towards Keelion’s office. She knocked on the door first and Keelion’s voice resounded, permitting her in.
She stepped inside, closed the door behind her, but then stilled at the large frame of Lorcan seated opposite Keelion who was relaxed in his office seat, fingers laced together.
The atmosphere, the intimidation in the air.
It felt as if two monsters were seated in the very same room.
Her throat dipped in a swallow and she bowed first, then straightened, eyes crossing with Keelion’s blue ones.
"What is it?" Keelion asked. His voice was a noose that spiraled around her throat, keeping her still for a second before she shook her head and approached them.
She said, "Augustus wanted me to deliver this." She handed the document to him.
Keelion took it from her, glanced at the content, and kept it on the table. "You can leave."
She nodded and proceeded to, but then as soon as she passed the chair, her hand was grabbed, stopping her.
Alexis spun around, stunned by the man whose grip was around her thin fingers.
Lorcan Zarr.
He’d stood up and turned, crimson eyes boring into hers with a kind of expression she couldn’t exactly read. He made her uneasy, everything about the man threw her off and she was quick to glance at Keelion who was staring at the hand where the man was grabbing.
"Take your hand off him," he ordered, voice sinister.
