The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Chapter 44
Alexis asked.
"Isn’t it a good thing?"
"What?" Amusement cracked on his face. By now he was as close to her with barely an inch of distance between them. His hand rested on her shoulder and slowly crawled up her neck, her body shivering under his touch.
"You wanted me to be confident," she mumbled in a shaky breath. "I’m l-learning."
"Starting with me, is that so?" He rubbed his thumb over the mating gland where he’d bitten her—where the mating mark looked like it’d begun fading. It wasn’t as clear.
His canines itched.
Once it faded, someone else could imprint on her, they could—
He grasped her by the nape of her neck and pulled her much closer.
Alexis blinked at him. "K-keelion?"
"Mhm, I like how you say my name," the man hummed lowly, leaning in until his face was nestled in her neck.
She was as still as a statue, her bare feet curling against the floor. Why did every touch of his always have to feel so nice—so right, it didn’t even matter how.
Keelion popped open a single bottom of her shirt, shifting the collar to the edge of her shoulder. His lips ghosted the mating mark and her fingers gripped his shirt, while her toes curled.
But he wouldn’t bite her, almost as if he was fighting himself against it.
He would only be complicating things—he knew that better than anyone, so to satisfy his itching canine, he instead bit into her shoulder, causing her to quickly inhale sharply.
There was no harm in scenting her.
But he couldn’t mark her again. Such a mistake couldn’t be made twice.
———
Lyndon sighed, shaking his head.
"Alexis, you may not be as helpful as every other staff member in this building and it’s not your fault. You may not be as able-bodied as a normal beta should be, but that is also fine, because under no circumstances should you get bullied because of it, alright."
Alexis crookedly smiled at him. "I’m really fine, sir."
The man pinched between his brows.
"If anything like this happens again, just report it, got it?"
She nodded at him and watched as he turned and left their room. A soft breath fled her nose and she climbed down from the bunk bed, slipping her feet into her slipper.
Sereia who’d hopped down with her peeked up at her.
"Where are you going?"
"To eat."
"Where?"
"With Keelion. Where else?" Alexis hurried towards the door, adjusting the oversized sweats and shirt she had on.
She glanced from left to right before slipping out, making her way down the hall to head towards Keelion’s master bedroom.
"Why are we tiptoeing?" Sereia asked.
"Because it’s nine in the evening. Some may be asleep and some may still be awake. I don’t want to get caught. What would I give as an excuse for going to the Alpha’s bedroom?"
"I suppose you have a point. It wouldn’t be good for us or Keelion."
Alexis nodded, completely agreeing with her words. They tiptoed past another door, but the door was, however, slightly opened just a little bit and she was sure whoever was in there didn’t see her.
But how sure could she have been, because the door pulled open and none other than Althea stepped out. Her room wasn’t too far from Keelion’s bedroom, so she’d noticed Alexis’s silhouette as soon as she passed her door.
Her brows screwed together as she slowly began to follow her in confusion.
Why the heck was she tiptoeing? What was she do—
Althea quickly pulled to a stop. That can’t be... She watched Alexis grab the door handle of Keeelion’s bedroom and open the door, stepping in like it wasn’t her first time—as if it was something she had every right to do.
That was Keelion’s master bedroom, not even she was allowed in without his permission. She could count on her fingers how many times Keelion had ever permitted her into his room.
Why was the beta free moving in there like... Wait, what the hell was going on between Keelion and the beta?
Surely it wasn’t what she was thinking right? Keelion would never choose a beta over her. That was impossible.
Then what in the world was going on?
Her hands balled into fists, and she turned, storming off, having someone in mind that she needed to find immediately. She hurried her way downstairs and inquired from any of the staff along the way where she could find Augustus.
"He’s in the infirmary at the maid’s quarters."
Althea dismissed the staff and made her way out of the mansion. She headed straight for the maid’s quarter and every omega who sighted her, bowed hurriedly, never lifting their heads until she was out of sight.
It was more than clear that she was going to be the luna. Who knew what she would do once she became one? It was best not to get on her bad side.
"Augustus!" She shoved the door of the infirmary open, startling the omegan nurse who was tending to someone lying on the sick bed.
"Get out," she ordered the omega.
The omega glanced between her and Augustus and when Augustus gave a nod, she stood up and made her way out,
Althea shut the door.
"Is there a problem, Ms?"
"What is going on between Fane and that beta?" she questioned, a bite to her tone.
Augustus cocked a brow at her. "I’m not sure what you mean."
"You know damn well what I mean." She stepped toward him. "You are his closest man, and I know you know what is going on. Answer me, Augustus."
Augustus let out a soft sigh, shifting his gaze back to Cyrus who was on the sick bed, unconscious and a complete mess of bandages.
"If you’ve got any concern, please take it to the alpha. I have nothing to answer."
Althea stepped closer, fuming right in front of him. "Augustus, you know damn well that soon I’m going to be the luna. I don’t think things will turn out well for you if you keep disrespecting me like this!"
The man glanced at her, expression neutral and blank. He shrugged and averted his gaze. "Please take it to the alpha, whatever personal question you may have."
The mere look Althea was giving him, it could end his life if looks could kill. Yet the man didn’t seem bothered.
"You think you’re indispensable?" she asked. "I can make Keelion get rid of—"
"Do not speak his name, Ms. Respectfully." He looked at her, but this time around, his eyes were intimidating, enough that she took a step back.
Augustus rose to his feet and stepped towards her, so much that his large tall figure towered over her. He said, "Do not speak the alpha’s name, you don’t have that right, no one does and I’m sure you know it. By the way, I’d like to remind you again, that I don’t answer to you, or anyone at that. I only answer to the Alpha. So I hope you don’t bother me about things like this again."
He turned and walked back to the chair, taking his seat.
Althea fumed at him.
"You think you can talk to me this way and get away with it?" she asked, balling her hands into fists. "Your days are numbered Augustus, just you watch!"
She turned around and stormed out of the infirmary. Lyndon walked in right after looking confused.
"What was that?" he asked.
Augustus turned his head and their gazes locked. He stared at him for a long silent moment before looking away, swallowing.
Lyndon blinked and cleared his throat.
"I’ve got something to finish. We’ll talk later." He turned and left, closing the door behind him.
"Stupid bitch," Augustus cursed under his breath, annoyance written all over his face.
