Chapter 36: Chapter 36

"Huh?" Damian, the tallest of the three, with rectangular-shaped glasses perched above the bridge of his nose, blinked his green eyes. "What do you mean?"

"Are you dumb?" Lyndon furrowed his brows. "Show me how you’ll greet the guests. You three are the youngest here, so you have the simplest job."

"Oh."

Lyndon pointed at Kaelis, a black-haired boy, probably twenty-six. "You first."

Kaelis nodded and stepped forward.

He cleared his throat before bowing heavily. "Hello, welcome to the—"

"Kaelis, why are you bowing like your waist broke midway? Are they the alpha?"

The black-haired rose back and shook his head. "No, I just—"

"Damian!"

Damian stepped forward and adjusted his glasses, before proceeding to bow just slightly.

"Nice," Lyndon commented. "Go on."

"Hello, welcome to the Alpha’s mansion, the society gala is held this way, and—"

"Why the fuck are you frowning?" Lyndon asked, cutting him off. "Don’t you know how to smile, huh?"

Damian blinked at him. "But sir—"

"But what?" He rubbed the back of his neck, wincing like he was in pain. "Shit, I think I have a stroke or something."

Augustus shot him a look. "What stroke? You’re speaking like you’re human."

"Why did you even give me this job, huh? You could have done it yourself. There is not a single one of them with talent." He groaned under his breath, gaze landing on Alexis. "I know you’ll do worse, but...let’s see what you got."

"You got it?" Sereia eyed her.

’My father used to make me greet guests who knew I existed. I was taught.’

"Oh!"

Drawing a deep breath, Alexis stepped up. She cleared her throat and proceeded to bow.

Lyndon nodded. "Okay, great now. Go on."

She rose, stared at them, and then a blooming smile popped on her face, making her cheeks pop. "Hello!" She was enthusiastic, waving both hands gently. "Welcome to the alpha’s mansion, sir, ma’am. Please follow this way, the society gala is held in the grand foyer. Hope you have a great evening."

And she bowed again, this time with a palm to her chest and the other spread out.

There was pure silence, and when she rose, she didn’t stop smiling until Lyndon chuckled.

"You actually do have talent." He glared at the others. "Applaud!"

The rest of the staff clapped, and Augustus stood staring at her, eyes falling to the deep dimple on both of her cheeks that was deeply visible with her smile.

"The guests are going to love you." Lyndon stepped up to her and patted her shoulder. "While you may not look like an average beta, you have a really pretty face, so you should be the star of the show."

"Thank you, sir." She didn’t stop smiling.

Lyndon turned to Damian and Kaelis and lifted his hand, slapping both on the back of their heads. "You two better learn from what he just did. If any of the guests ever complains of your service, you’re getting fired!"

Both men quickly bowed. "Yes, sir!"

"Good, good, I haven’t made a proper introduction, but this here is Alexis Ruderth. He just newly joined us last month." He pointed at Alexis and everyone glanced at her. "I know that he looks more of an omega than he does a beta, but he is a beta, anyone can tell. Anyway, he’s the weakest of us and here we do not discriminate because of strength. He’s one of us, and we will accommodate him, got it?"

"Yes, sir."

"LOUDER!"

"YES, SIR!"

"Good." Lyndon clapped his hands. "Group seven, go ahead, you’re transferring the delivered groceries to the kitchen at the maid’s quarters. Keep your eyes off the omegas, or I’ll gauge them out for you."

Kaelis smiled awkwardly. "Sir...w-why are you looking at only me?"

"You know why." Lyndon gave him a dry smile before his face screwed into a frown. "Now leave! Go do your work."

"Yes, sir."

....

Alexis carefully held the boxes of fruits while following behind Damian and Kaelis who each held three boxes like they weighed nothing.

’Must be nice to have superhuman strength.’

"Focus kid." Sereia snapped, walking next to her.

"Yes ma’am." She rolled her eyes and followed after the two in front of her to step into a quarter.

This was the maid’s quarters—all of which were omegas.

"Don’t talk to the omegas unless they speak to you. It’s best not to get on their bad side."

Alexis furrowed her brows. "Why?"

"Their chief lady...is like Augustus." Damian breathed out, shaking his head. "She is crazy and grumpy."

"Ah..." She slowly nodded her head, a smile emerging on her face as they passed a few omegas who half smiled politely with a light bow.

They arrived at the kitchen storeroom, and the person to step in first was Kaelis, followed by Damian and then Alexis who went in last.

One of the maids, clad in a light purple knee-length dress and white apron, walked up to her. "That looks heavy. Let me give you a hand." She adjusted her white bonnet, hiding every strand of her hair.

They brought it down on one of the kitchen counters and she smiled at the omega who looked to be probably her age. "Thank you."

The omega waved at her, cupping one side of her reddening cheek. "You’re welcome."

"What is your name?" she added.

"Alexis," Alexis responded, the smile still evident on her face. It felt quite refreshing to finally speak to a fellow woman after weeks of being surrounded by loud sweaty men.

"Alexis. My, you’re so handsome," the omega softly giggled, turning to open the box.

Alexis stood blinking. ’Handsome?’

"Look at you, kid, already having omegas falling in love with you."

"I hope we meet again. My name is Noemi," the Omega said and turned to shoot her a wide smile, pearly white teeth exposed.

Alexis slowly nodded at her. "Ah, yes of course. I-I hope we meet again too. I’ll get going now." She turned and left before Noemi could make a response.

Bubbles of chuckles erupted from her once she was outside and she hurried up to catch up to Damian.

"Are you really a beta?" Damian walked up beside her, asking.

She glanced up at his much taller frame. "I am. Why...?"

"I think you’d be more fit to be an omega," the man chuckled. "But then that wouldn’t make sense. You’re a man and you don’t have a scent either. That’s perfectly a beta."

Alexis gave a nervous laugh.

"Am I that weak...?"

"Very. But not just weak though. You physically look like an omega. You should probably work out. I think it’ll help." He glanced at his friend. "Hey, Kaelis, take a look at him. Don’t you think he looks a lot like an omega?"
