The Alpha's Fated Mate Is an Outcast-Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Chapter 37
Kaelis grunted.
"It’s none of my business. I don’t care that he looks like an omega. That information doesn’t benefit me in any way." His tone was cold.
Damian cocked a brow at him. "Why do you always have to sound so grumpy like someone pissed in your food?"
Kaelis screwed his face at him and still walking beside them, Alexis smiled nervously.
"Well!" Damian slumped his arm around her shoulder, patting her. "It doesn’t matter because all that matters is that you still manage to do your job."
She nodded and tried to slip out of his hold.
"Your father is Mr. Ruderth, right? It’s sort of weird why—"
"Hey!"
A voice snapped behind them and the second they all turned to see who it was, Alexis was snatched by the collar of her suit and punched hard across the face.
"What the fuck?!" Damian snapped, grasping the man who was a standard alpha like him and shoving him to the ground. "What do you think you’re doing?"
Kaelis glared and scrutinized him—the familiar blonde-haired man, with gray eyes and a slight scar across the lip. "Cyrus."
Alexis, who’d fallen to the floor, lifted her hand to her cheek, touching and noting the blood which made it clear, that the edge of her lip had been split and there was no doubt it would bruise.
Damian grabbed her hand and pulled her up to her feet.
"Why did you hit him?" Kaelis questioned.
"Why did I hit him, huh?" the stranger, Cyrus, who was one of the staff, smirked in annoyance. "He’s the weakest of us and here we do not discriminate because of strength, fuck that nonsense," he mimicked, proceeding to step into her space with a pissed-off look on his face.
Kaelis however shoved him back.
"Step aside, you fucking beta—"
"So you can do what?" Damian glared at him. "Back the hell off Cyrus. We’re grown men, not some high school kids, got it? What did Alexis even do to you?"
"What did he do to me?" Cyrus stepped up to Damian, both on the same eye level. "Listen, we’re all getting paid the same and there is no reason why I have to do his work because he couldn’t do a damn thing!"
"That’s the reason?" Kaelis pinched between his brows. "Go and complain to Augustus then. What will hitting him solve?"
"Should I bite him, kid?"
’No.’
"Let me do it. I told you—’
’It’s fine, Sereia.’ Alexis breathed out and then walked up next to Damian, apologetically bowing deeply. "I’m sorry, I had no idea."
Cyrus glanced at her, the annoyance he felt seeming to rise with every passing second. "Avoid me, because if I ever see you again, I’ll reshape that pretty face of yours."
He turned and stormed off.
Damian turned toward her and winced at the forming bruise. "Are you alright? You should put ice on that."
"I’m fine." Alexis half smiled at him. "Thank you for helping." She looked at Kaelis, nodding at him. "Thank you too."
And then she turned to leave, but Damian grabbed her hand. "Alex, please don’t report this to Augustus or Lyndon if you can."
"Why?" She raised a brow at him.
"He’ll get fired," the man responded. "Cyrus, he’s a jerk who acts like a kid, yes. But...to be honest, he’s been here longer than either me or Kaelis. And everyone knows both his parents died tragically and that was why he even came here in the first place. You can’t get him fired...please. This won’t happen again, at least I’ll make sure of it."
She stared at him and slowly nodded her head. "Okay, you have nothing to worry about."
"Thank you."
She snatched her hand back from him and hurriedly walked off, leaving the two standing there.
"Do you think he’ll be fine?"
"Probably," Kaelis mumbled. "That punch looked really bad though."
.....
"Does it feel any better?" the maid, Noemi, from earlier in the morning asked, putting a band-aid over the bruise. "I’ve iced it. You should feel better now."
Alexis half smiled at her, nodding. "Thank you."
Noemi sighed. "If I hadn’t seen you, you never would have come over for treatment. See, you’re new, so you probably weren’t informed, but when any of the alphas or betas get hurt, we take care of them."
"Really? They don’t go to the hospital?"
"No, that’s unless their life is on the line. Unlike vampires, we don’t really heal very fast, except the supreme Alpha of course. I’m sure you know he’s above any of the standard alphas. Anyway, before any of us omegas are hired to work here, we have to have a skill in treatment. That’s why we’re paid a lot."
Alexis arched her brow. "More than the staff?"
"I’m not sure. I doubt that. But we’re paid a hundred thousand weils a month—"
She inhaled sharply. "A hundred? R-really?"
"Yes. That’s why everyone likes working here, even though it’s not exactly easy to get hired. The alpha...he is very generous with our payment and I mean GENEROUS." Noemi grinned, a proud look on her face.
Alexis slowly nodded. "I had no idea."
Noemi’s smile fell a bit and she shifted closer to her. "By the way, who punched you?"
"Huh?" She glanced at her, registering her question, before dryly chuckling. "Ah, this. No one punched me actually. I fell."
"You...fell?"
"Yes."
"That doesn’t look like a fall bruise. It looked like you were hit." Noemi slowly smiled. "Are you lying because you don’t want to tell a girl a fellow man got a punch on you?"
Alexis blinked at her. "What?"
Noemi cackled softly, waving a hand of dismissal at her. "You don’t have to worry about that. I don’t judge or care. If I care about anything, it’s the fact that your handsome face is now bruised. You’re very pretty. I’ve really never met a beta or alpha, or even an omega more beautiful than you. It makes me so jealous."
Then she suddenly gripped her hands. "Alexis, do you have a girlfriend?"
"Huh?"
"I doubt you don’t." she sighed as if she were disappointed. "Well, I must go now." A concerned look emerged on her face as her attention crossed to the bruise before she stood to her feet. "Don’t worry about the bruise, it should be gone in a few days. See you later." And she left, dusting off her dress as she did.
"How do you feel?" Sereia asked.
Alexis rose to her feet. "It still stings."
"You should have let me tear that jerk apart. What kind of man hits a woman?"
"It’s not like he knew. Let it be."
"You better not turn into a pushover, girl, because I won’t allow it. We are a dominant omega, and just because you and I have not joined yet, doesn’t mean you should ever forget that."
"I won’t," Alexis breathed out. "There is nothing I could have done, anyway. I’m too weak..."
She balled her fists. "...But only for now."
