Chapter 18: Chapter 18

Keelion shut his laptop close, getting up from the sofa to leave, but he was stopped short by Althea, who climbed on his lap, throwing her arms over his shoulders.

"You can’t just leave already, Fane."

He had that unimpressed look on his face. "I need to get back to my bedroom. You should get some sleep."

"I know, Fane, but don’t you want to stay with me tonight? Just tonight, I mean...I miss you, I always do. And you’re barely around." She was begging with her gaze at this point. "Is something the problem? You don’t want me anymore?"

She breathed out, running her fingers up and down his neck before leaning in to kiss his lips—a kiss which the man didn’t reciprocate. He was rather annoyed, eyes filled with the kind of impatience he was stuffing to the back of his mind.

Althea kissed his jaw, her lips trailing down his neck, until her canines suddenly grazed his mating gland, and as if she weighed nothing, he tossed her off him into the couch, springing to his feet with a pissed-off look.

She rapidly blinked, looking up at him. "Fane, I’m sorry, I didn’t—"

Keelion snatched her by the jaw, peering down at her with eyes that were no longer ocean blue. Rather black as if he were a completely different person. "Let this be the first and last time I warn you about trying to step past the boundary I’ve given you. Don’t push it."

He left the room with his laptop, slamming the door shut.

Althea sat on the couch, staring at nothing. Her hand went to her jaw where his fingers had been and slowly a smile crept on her face, teeth biting into her bottom lip.

"Even if you’re not letting me in, Keelion, you still chose me out of hundreds of omegas. You belong to me and sooner or later, you’re eventually going to let me in. When you mark me and finally let me mark you too."

Giggles poured from her and she plopped down on the couch, blonde hair beautifully scattered all over. "You’ll eventually let me in, I know it."

.....

Alexis stood outside Keelion’s door, shifting on both feet, not very enthusiastic to step into the room.

She’d been restless throughout the entire day, unsure what was going to happen. It didn’t help that Sereia completely abandoned her the whole day, vanishing out of her sight and never appearing, not even once.

What kind of wolf abandons its other half?

"Stand out there one more minute, Alex..." Keelion’s voice thundered abruptly from inside the room and she jolted, grabbing the door handle.

She stepped into the room and shut the door behind her, but she wasn’t willing to lift her head. Instead, she grabbed the hem of the long shirt she wore, covering the black shorts she had on.

Augustus had supplied her with clothing like Keelion had asked, and of course, every single one of them was male clothing. Not that she could complain, not unless she wanted to lose her head.

"Is that my shirt?"

"Yes," she responded, proceeding to explain, "Having your...stuff helps with my heat. Your clothes smell like you, so...It’s comfortable. I know I shouldn’t take them, but..."

Keelion made a face, then looked away from her with a grimace.

I couldn’t help it... She thought to herself.

Maybe it was her imagination, but she could swear she saw Keelion smirk, almost as if he could hear her thoughts.

"Have you eaten?" he asked.

"No."

"Over there." He nodded to the table in the center of the room filled with all types of delicacies, one that had her mouth watering and eyes twinkling.

Anything could make Alexis unhappy, but food wasn’t one of them. She was already gliding towards the table before her brain could even process anything, folding her legs on the clean marble floor and taking a seat like it didn’t bother her.

Keelion, whose attention was dragged, averted his gaze from his phone, brows lifting at her. "Why are you sitting on the floor—"

She was already packing spoons of food in her mouth and for the first time since knowing her in these few days, he finally saw what he would call...a genuine smile on her face.

"Would you slow down?" he bit out. "The food isn’t running from you."

Alexis peeked up at him under her long thick lashes from where he sat on the loveseat, eyes stuck on her. She swallowed the lump of food she’d chewed and proceeded to speak, "I have a question."

"While you’re eating?"

"It’s just a question."

"Go ahead."

"Is that woman really your lover?"

He arched a brow at her. "Why are you curious?"

"I don’t think she is." Alexis shrugged.

"Oh?"

Keelion tossed his phone aside and uncrossed his legs. He man-spreaded, elbows rested on his knees, and head tilted to the side as he regarded her with a curious look.

"What makes you think so?"

He narrowed his eyes at her.

Alexis stared up at him, front teeth slowly digging into her bottom lip, before she said, "You didn’t enjoy kissing her."

"What?" he asked silkily, low enough that she could hear.

She swallowed her food. "You didn’t enjoy...kissing her. You didn’t seem into it."

"And you’re so sure because?" He nearly whispered his question.

"You liked kissing me. You didn’t kiss her the way you did me."

"For a wimpy, scrawny thing like yourself, you sure do have some mouth on you," he said slowly, his voice vibrating with vehemence. Quietly, in a whisper, he beckoned, "Come here."

Alexis looked away from him to her food and scooped up a spoonful, pretending like he hadn’t spoken to her. Keelion, however, rasped her name harshly enough to jolt her gaze back up to him.

"Alexis, come here." He made a noise in the back of his throat.
