Chapter 108: Chapter 108

The mark at his neck itched so painfully, and Keelion reached over his hand, touching it only for it to burn so hot, he withdrew his hand. The burn mark was there on his palm.

Not once and not even in his worst moments did he feel this pile of emotions, tearing through his chest. She was gone, Alexis had left him without a word, with no explanation.

Panic flooded his entire body and he didn’t know how to stop it. His parted lips gasped for air and he coughed so frantically, so hard he ended up spurting the mouthful of blood that had rushed to his throat. freewёbnoνel.com

His throat tightened around the sob he refused to release, but he couldn’t control the wetness that had built up in his eyes, further blurring his vision.

Keelion had never cried before. Not even at the death of his own mother. He’d always had absolute control over his emotions no matter how deeply they hurt. No matter how awful the scar felt.

But this....this was different.

Trembling hand reached up to his eyes, touching the bubbles of tears that broke at the impact, dropping down his face.

His consciousness was slipping away from him.

What was this...?

He nearly chuckled to himself.

Ah...he was hyperventilating...

He’d never hyperventilated before. And he couldn’t stop his rapid breathing. He had enough air, but he couldn’t get enough air at the same time.

Keelion forced himself off his feet, to make his way to the bathroom. He needed water—something to help him.

But his legs were trembling beneath him, the strength he’d always had draining out of them.

He felt numb all over, breaths growing more frantic than before. His chest ached, his ribs too tight.

Then...suddenly, the world tilted.

His knees buckled completely, and he crashed to the floor backward with a heavy thud, so strengthless that he couldn’t even protect his own head. His palms pressed against the floor—he tried to push himself up, but his body wouldn’t cooperate. His brain alone had already gone dull and even thought was something he found hard to process at that moment.

The strands of his white hair stayed palling over his eyes. His vision blurred for the worst, dark at the edges. He could see the room spinning, too fast and too loud.

The thought of her—the sound of his own ragged breathing—-it all pressed down on him until he could only inhale heavily one last time, lips and teeth bloody.

Keelion let go.

What was the point of it all anymore? Why did everyone always leave him, as if he was cursed...

What had he even done wrong? They never considered him before they do and then he has to sit with the hurt, dealing with it all alone.

His chest heaved, desperate and erratic, but he no longer had the strength to chase after the air he could never catch, not at that very moment. All he could do was lie there, shaking.

His heart was thrashing against the ache where some kind of hole tearing its way. Maybe he should just die this way.

The mating bond may eventually kill him anyway. This was why he had been very cautious, never letting anyone mark him. But Alexis had been different. She was the woman he loved, There was nothing wrong with letting her mark him—he marked her after all.

Now, it was going to cost him his sanity, his own life—this was all because he’d been stupid.

What had he been thinking? That anyone could ever genuinely love a man like him. No one loved him—anyone who was around did because he had something to offer and that was it.

He loved her, he truly loved her, like he had never loved anyone before.

The world around Keelion was fading, the sounds he could hear dulling. His body felt heavy and distant like he no longer belonged to him, but he was still a bit conscious. Even his breath had begun slowing down and stuttering.

Each inhale took more effort than the last. And each exhale felt like it could be his last.

Yet, in the quiet and softness between those falling breaths, there she was. Her beautiful face, hovering over his, watching him with curiosity as if she never left.

And then he watched her lips curl into a smile, the type of pretty smile he’d never once seen on anyone else. Her dimples deepened further...Alexis was beautiful. Smiling at him like that—in a way, he had never seen her smile at anyone else, as if he were her whole world.

Her laughter, soft and soothing rang in his ears and then he felt the warmth of her palm come in contact with his cheeks. It traced patterns until he could feel the briefness of her sudden kiss against his bloody lips.

[Keelion]

The way she looked at him—it was filled with so much love, it felt like she was right there in front of him. Was she? Or was this just his imagination? Was he hallucinating?

Hot liquid fell against his cheek and he stared into her eyes to realize that she was sobbing painfully, trembling hands holding onto him.

[Don’t leave me] Her voice melted into his head. [Don’t give up on me, Keelion. You can’t leave me. I love you, you know I do. And I need you to stay with me]

He had so much to say, but he couldn’t seem to utter a word.

[I love you. I love you, Keelion. Wait for me, please. W-wait for me]

Keelion tried to hold on to her fading figure, but he was unable to move. She left him.

Cursed or not, there was none more twisted than love itself. It was despicable enough that it could kill a man like him—bring him to his knees and render him...useless and incapable of anything.

Love was the only thing that had been capable enough to strip him of what he was—of who he was. He felt a victim to it—something he never should have been.

His lips parted, a few final breathless whispers of her name, "Alexis..." It sounded soft into the silence of his room.

Then, one last fragile exhale was all it took, and the world went still.
