Chapter 41: Departure

[A month later]

Invitation to the royal court...Arthur has a feeling that this is related to the death of the former Viscount.

Was he closely related to the royal family? Highly unlikely...then what else could have forced the King to invite a mere Baron’s family to the celebration of the Prince?

Arthur had nothing else on his mind as he stood before the mirror and combed his hair.

They were leaving for the capital today. It would take two days to reach there, exactly on the same day when the celebration would take place.

In the past few weeks, his father has shown great recovery, which is why they were even going to join the celebration.

Thanks to Bowman’s regular checkups and proper medication, he can walk properly and has been going to work for the past ten days.

The talk about building a concrete route was quite a hot topic, and from what Arthur has heard from Conrad, it appears the contractors have visited the office twice by now. So, it seems that Westmere is going to be connected to the world soon.

Arthur was actually planning to help his father by providing the funds he had accumulated, but then there was the hesitation because of being questioned and all. He even considered dropping it off at the office gate one day...but all this happened suddenly, and it slipped his mind.

However, now that they already know that Arthur possesses quite a good amount, he would openly donate a portion of his sum to help his father and this town.

"You ready, brother?" Kevin suddenly entered the room, wearing a pair of ankle-length brown pants and a white shirt, with a newsboy hat on his head.

Arthur nodded, "Yeah." He stepped out of the room and asked him, "You seem quite excited about this trip?"

Kevin grinned, "This is the first time for us to go out of Westmere, and not just anywhere but the Capital." He heaved a sigh of admiration as he added, "I have heard how beautiful that place is...golden palace, lively markets...and there is the Princess too...I have heard she is the most beautiful woman on the continent."

Arthur chuckled, "You are growing more and more like a casanova, Brother."

Kevin scoffed, "It’s called admiring beauty...I am not like you, brother."

Arthur was stunned, "I am ten, Kevin. Want me to appear like a creep."

"Whatever." Kevin rolled his eyes.

Soon, the duo reached the living room, where their father was carrying the luggage and bringing it to the carriage.

Virelle smiled softly, seeing the two children wearing the new clothes, "You two look adorable. Ah, I really want an artist to make a sketch of you two."

Arthur heaved a sigh, "How can you admire the same faces which you see every day?"

Kevin grinned, "Don’t be shy now, Art."

Arthur rolled his eyes and walked away, heading towards the carriage and leaving two giggling members of his family.

Arthur can’t take a compliment, that’s for sure.

Soon, the other two also reached the carriage where Aston was talking to Conrad.

"How are you, Conrad?" Virelle greeted the man with a soft smile.

"Doing great. You look lovely, Virelle." Conrad was a friend of Virelle, which explains why he didn’t show stiffness in her presence.

Virelle thanked the man before she stepped inside the carriage.

Arthur was leaning against the window, so he heard them talking,

"I have received the offer letter from the Viscount. It seems they are offering help to build the road." Baron Stronghart told him.

Conrad was surprised, "It...isn’t his obligation to help us, yet he is? That’s surprising?"

Aston hummed...he somehow could feel that Viscount Roman was trying to make things up through this proposal. But well, Aston never blamed Roman for what happened. It was all on the former Viscount.

"So...are we taking his help?" Conrad asked after a bit of pause.

Baron Stronghart nodded, "Yes. We shouldn’t deny the kindness of our superiors." Extending his hand toward Conrad, which the brown head took instantly, he said, "I will leave the office and this town under your care."

Conrad seemed slightly nervous, but he didn’t hesitate to nod, "Be assured and have a safe trip."

*******

The carriage rolled out of the town.

Westmere was in the west, attached to the borders of the barren lands, and the capital was situated in the south.

If Westmere was covered with barren lands behind them, then in front of them, only mother nature protected the town.

On the north was Atinberg and the territory of the Viscount. Traveling to the west, they would have met by Ocean. And toward their east, the forest would continue.

Thankfully, there is a well-maintained route to the capital. That’s why they possibly won’t have to travel through the forest

"The journey is long. You have packed snacks, right?" Aston asked from the outside, as he rode in the carriage.

They were thinking of hiring a driver, but since there was no professional carriage rider in Westmere and calling one from Atinberg cost around a thousand gold coins, Aston decided to do it by himself.

Well, inside or outside, it’s the same for him.

"Yes, I have prepared many things. At least we won’t have to buy any food until tomorrow." Virelle assured him.

She has been preparing dishes since four in the morning. This was their first family trip, and the journey was quite long. That’s why she wanted to be well-prepared.

Meanwhile, Arthur suddenly received a message from Tinker,

{The amount of Water Spirits is quite less in the forest...even though it’s so peaceful here.}

Arthur hummed inwardly. Spirits vary based on the place. Just like how in the forest, Terra Spirits are more active.

He could faintly hear their voice in his ears, and he knew that if he tried to talk to them, his mind would be filled with their voices.

’I think it’s the right time to widen my reach.’ Arthur couldn’t rely on the water spirits forever. After all, he couldn’t tell on which battlefield he would need to fight.

As such, he decided to level up his other spiritual attributes on this trip.
