Reawakening with Limitless Mana-Chapter 42: Terra Spirits
Chapter 42: Terra Spirits
"No, not like that." Arthur interrupted his brother, who was trying to tie the rope to the nail.
They were in the middle of the great forest, and it was already quite late at night.
Traveling at this time would be dangerous since several kinds of beasts leave their dens to hunt at night. There is a lake nearby as well, where they might come to drink water.
However, since water camouflages human scent, Aston decided to make the camp not so far away.
While Aston went to bring some firewood from the forest, he left the duty to set up the camp for his young ones.
"Oh, you know this?" Kevin asked as he handed the rope to his brother.
Arthur silently kneels beside the tent’s corner and grabs the taut guide rope. He slips the loop over the small metal nail driven firmly into the ground. With one smooth motion, he pulls the rope down and around the nail, making a clean half-hitch. Then he tucks the free end under the standing line and snugly pulls to lock it in place. The rope holds tight with no slack, and Arthur stands up, satisfied that the tent is secure.
Turning towards his brother, he said, "It’s not about how strongly you pull the knot, it’s about how firmly you can tie them up."
Kevin went ’Ooh~’ clearly admiring his brother’s skills when suddenly, the third male of the Stronghart family arrived, "Where did you even learn that?"
Arthur shrugged and presented the same lie as ever, "Books. They are beneficial, I tell you."
Aston chuckled, "Your mother is well educated too, but she couldn’t even tie shoelaces properly-"
"Dear~" A bone-chilling voice caught Aston off guard as the wood from his hand slipped.
"A-Ah, Virelle. You appear quite beautiful under the moonlight." He hurriedly complimented her to cool her down
Virelle sighed with a smile, as she said, "If you are done making fun of me, why don’t you light up the fire so I can heat up the food?"
"You didn’t even learn how to light up a fire from books, Mom?" Kevin teased only to get his ear pulled.
"Ou-ou, I am sorry."
"Don’t learn bad things from your father," Virelle warned before she made a ’hmph!’ sound.
Crossing her arms, she said, "You won’t know what knowledge could give you. Only Art and I know the beauty of knowing things which most of the world doesn’t pay attention to."
Virelle was a history enthusiast because she liked to read books. Arthur was interested in history since he wanted to know what the people of current generation know about the life he once lived.
Two different motives, but it was a fact that they both liked reading books.
"Is there anything else I can help with?" Arthur asked his mother in a quiet tone.
The blond lady softly shook her head, "You already did plenty...but are you going to sleep?"
Arthur shook his head, "Just going to rest inside the tent. Call me once you plate the dinner."
Virelle nodded smilingly before she gave him a forehead kiss and made her way to the campfire.
Arthur stepped inside the tent and sat down on the covers.
They have prepared three beds since there was just that much space. But considering how thin the four of them were, it would be enough to accommodate them.
’Well, considering the dangers of the forest, I don’t think Father would be sleeping tonight." Arthur was thinking of taking turns, but well, having an older brother meant he would be told to rest in the tent and leave the watch out on the other two.
Arthur sat in lotus position, his hand resting on his lap and eyes closed.
When you connect with the spirits, it’s not necessary to see them through your eyes. First, he needed to draw their attention by either talking to them or using spiritual magic.
He depended on the former.
’Can you hear me? Little spirits?’
{Ehh...you can talk to us?}
{How curious~~}
{A human...talking to us?}
{Wow wow...can we play?}
They were buzzing but not as much as water spirits. They were more calm and audible to him.
Maybe because he has trained his senses in these few years to tolerate their noisiness or maybe the water spirits were just too much energetic?
Regardless, Arthur responded,
’Hello, there. I can talk to you. Do you like to play?’
He has to be quite patient with them, treat them like a child, or they can be pretty much moody as well.
{Yea~play play~}
{Did our Goddess bless you?}
{What is your name?}
{Ah, a human. A HUMAN!}
Many questions and Arthur answered them one by one, ’Yes, we can play, and indeed, Lady Tiamuth blessed me. I am Arthur, and yes, I am a human.’
The interaction with the spirits went on for a few moments before, finally, Arthur decided to use them a little to chant a spell or something.
’Okay now...can you help me create a stone pillar?’ He asked, and their response was wild.
’Uogh..’ Arthur nearly puked as a nauseous sensation assaulted him. It wasn’t a retaliation; it was just their mana...their domineering and untamed mana, which overwhelmed his senses.
’In the forest...it is impossible to lose to someone if I can get their support....’ The amount of Terra spirits he could see was truly daunting. It felt like he was standing in the middle of a sky filled with small but countless stars.
Arthur barely regulated the mana they were supplying and slammed his hands on the ground, intending to create a small pillar inside the tent, but—
"Aaahhhh!" His mother’s cry broke his focus as Arthur instantly darted out of the tent and looked at her.
But soon his focus shifted from his mother to the place from where a huge pillar was protruding.
Arthur took a strong gulp as he continued to look up, and at the height of the clouds, he could see Kevin waving his hand at him.
’....need to control my powers...these spirits are wilder than the water ones.’
