Chapter 168: A beautiful morning

The village of Yogusho was waking up, the streets filled with the early morning hustle and bustle.

The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a rosy hue over the buildings with a cool breeze swept through the streets, bringing with it the fresh scent of the forest and the sound of birds chirping.

The cobblestones still lay damp with dew, the cool stone a stark contrast to the warmth of the sunlight.

As the day dawned, the town’s residents were starting to step outside, going about their daily routines and greeting each other warmly.

Of course, as per Coco’s daily routine, she’s already on her way to the gates with a basket perched on her shoulders and a sling bag pressed against her hip.

Coco let out a yawn, muffling it behind her hand.

The shops and homes around were beginning to stir, windows opening as people awoke to the beginning of the day and she observed them with a small smile.

Birds chirped in the trees between the buildings, their cheerful sounds a pleasant addition to the stillness of the morning.

The air was cool and crisp, the night’s chill clinging tenaciously to the air.

Coco loves the feeling of observing everything and everyone around her in a morning like this, just minding her own business as she makes her merry way to the forest.

"Good morning, Mrs. Hughes!"

The guards that were standing beside the gates brightened up when they saw her and beamed enthusiastically towards her way.

"Good morning, guys!" Coco greeted them back and returned their energetic greetings.

"Already off to the forest?" One of the guards asked, a new face that she’s not quite familiar with because the last two guards she interacted with would have shuffled their ways out of the conversation.

However, this one engaged with her.

"Yep! I’m feeling quite happy so I decided to go to work while I’m feeling positive!" Coco replied, pumping her closed fists in the air as she shot the guard a wide grin.

The guard laughed. "I see. Well, don’t let me keep you here. Have a good day, Mrs. Hughes."

"You, too!" Coco waved at the guards as she disappeared to the forest, her footsteps light and quick as if she was dancing.

"I love feeling like this." Coco said to no one in particular, her eyes twinkling with delight.

The sky above her was an amazingly breathtaking sight, the expansive canvas of blue streaked with wisps of soft white clouds that took shapes of vanilla ice creams.

The light of the sun was a pure and bright gold, its rays illuminating the land below, making the trees look more elegant than they already are— golden hue came from the leaves and tree trunk, taking her breath away.

The world was slowly awakening, the sky’s colors gradually growing brighter as the sun climbed higher in the sky.

The forest around her was strangely still, the tranquility of the morning broken only by the occasional call of birds and the faint hum of early morning from other living creatures.

Despite the sun slowly rising up in the sky, it was still somehow low, the warm, golden light bathing the world in a soft, early morning glow with the clouds, in different shapes, moving slowly across the sky, their movements slow and gentle.

Coco let out a sigh, completely appreciating such scenery before her eyes.

Coco kept walking and enjoying the morning breeze as she took out the strange egg she got from the quest yesterday— wanting to have a companion for the walk since Lala is still asleep inside the basket.

The strange egg appeared into thin air with a puff of smoke and then, it unceremoniously fell to her arms.

Just like last night, the egg was still warm and seemingly like it was beating.

Coco hummed softly to herself and continued to walk through the forest, her pace was light, but fast enough for her to reach the bottom of the mountain in no time.

Since I bought back a lot of flying pig meat yesterday, I think I can go back without having to hunt for any monster today. Coco thought, her eyes taking in her surroundings to see if she would spot a perfect spot that would provide cover.

She saw none so she kept walking.

She has not received the payment from the merchant just yet, but she will have the money she got from her to pay off her remaining debt— to get it out of the way and have her focus on something else.

"Considering that I only have less than two hundred gold coins of debt left, I should prioritize paying it before anything else so I won’t have to worry about it anymore." Coco mumbled, her arms tightening around the large egg a little.

Well.. She has not thought of the debt ever since she proposed to have an installment payment plan to the inn’s owner because she doesn’t have to worry.

However, the sooner she pays off the debt, the better.

"Man.. I’m so glad you’re right here with me, buddy." Coco whispered to the egg as she hugged the magical egg closer to her chest, "At least I know that I’m not alone right now."

When she found an open clearing, her face brightened up significantly.

"You’re one lucky egg." Coco hummed towards the egg and caressed the shell gently, "I’m quite excited to meet you. You have to grow healthy and strong, okay? Then, I’ll have you accompany me wherever I go—"

"What?!"

Coco stopped talking to the magical egg and flinched when she heard an unexpected outburst coming from the basket.

"You’re planning to carry that egg wherever you go? What about me? Are you planning to replace me?!" The garden fairy emerged from the basket and flew to Coco’s face.

Coco blinked owlishly and stared at Lala for a moment before she broke down, laughing wholeheartedly to herself.

"It’s a beautiful morning, isn’t it, Lala?"
