New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 167: A magical teddy egg
Chapter 167: A magical teddy egg
Coco walked through the village, her footsteps soft in the quiet night.
The streets were already dark and almost abandoned the only light coming from a few scattered lamps, their light fluttering in the cool night air.
The houses were mostly silent, some of the people of the village were already asleep in their beds.
Coco’s footsteps were soft against the hard ground beneath, the only sound outside the occasional hoot of an owl, the rustling of a nocturnal creature, the whispers of the villagers, or the creaking of doors shut.
It was quiet and peaceful outside, the sound of the night birds providing a soothing soundtrack to the night.
The sky was a deep black, the stars twinkling in the expanse of inky darkness with the air being cool and crisp, the chill of the night giving Coco an unexpected goosebumps.
Despite the chillness and silence of the night, Coco was huffing and still feeling frustrated.
Her expression was one of upset and distress, the recent argument with the forth husband she had still fresh in her mind.
She walked through the town, her steps quick and almost angry, her thoughts swirling in the back of her head.
The image of her husband’s face, contorted with anger while spouting unbacked accusations was still vivid in her mind, his words biting and harsh— undoubtedly aiming to agitate her.
Even though the beauty of the night was mesmerizing, she couldn’t shake the feeling of hurt and disappointment.
She walked silently through the quiet town, the silence of the night only making her emotions feel more intense as she made her way back to the inn.
She wasn’t the only one who was feeling upset, the garden fairy who had done nothing, but huffed out angry words regarding the fourth husband because of his absurd conclusion.
It was clear that Lala was also mad at Quizen.
Coco stalked down the almost deserted street, her footsteps slightly loud in the quiet night, the lights were out in most of the windows from nearby houses, only a few flickering softly in the darkness.
As she neared the inn, a particular sound could be heard, the deep voices of men and the occasional bout of loud, harsh laughter reaching her ears.
The inn’s door was open, spilling a warm light into the night, the sounds of the inn’s patrons drifting out into the street.
Hesitating for a little, Coco pushed open the door to the inn, the sound of the laughter and chatter growing louder as she stepped inside.
As Coco walked through the door of the inn, the warmth of the building enveloped her.
The air was filled with the usual mingled scents of several scents such as ale, whatever the chef cooked for the night, and smoke, a dizzying combination that assaulted her senses.
The temperature of the inside was much warmer than the temperature outside, but the air was heavy with the smell of alcohol and smoke compared to the refreshing air outside, being dimly lit with the only light coming from the tall lamps along the walls.
Thankfully, when she walked in, she didn’t see Ruby nor Joachim anywhere.
Coco immediately ignored the noise around her, her thoughts still filled with the argument she just had with the blue haired mediator, her face set in a frown.
Without uttering a word, she took that chance to walk briskly across the lobby to the staircase, ascending the wooden platforms as fast as could and rushing towards her room.
She took the room key from her personal inventory and slotted it inside the keyhole.
Click.
She twisted the key before she pushed the door open, the darkness of the room was the first thing she noticed as soon as she stepped inside.
She closed the door behind her and made sure to lock it.
"Do you want to take a bath, Lala?" Coco asked, her hand held out in front of her as she pressed the lamp on.
"I don’t have the energy to take a bath, Coco." The garden fairy answered truthfully, flying over to the bed and plopping herself on the pillow.
"Okay, let’s just go to sleep." Coco forced out a smile and approached the bed, her hands reaching up to take off her clothes and threw them to the wooden chair on the corner of the room.
"Thank you.. I just feel drained for some reason." Lala mumbled, burying herself further into the pillow.
"So many things happened today so I completely understand." Coco hummed, picking up her pajamas and slipping on them.
She did not receive any response from the fairy, making her turn her head to the bed and raise an eyebrow.
She saw Lala hugging the edge of the pillow and was already snoring the exhaustion away, her lips parted with a little drool on her chin.
Coco could only shake her head and approach the bed, sitting down and being extra careful to not disturb the egg.
A lot happened. Coco thought to herself and stared at the ceiling for a moment, her mind racing with unwanted musings that seem to keep the exhaustion at bay.
Coco turned to her side and let out a sigh.
Then, her eyes landed on the magical egg that she received from the quest earlier.
The egg was.. Something.. To say the least.
The shell is a mixture of shimmering colors, ranging from pure white to almost sky blue and pastel pink.
The faint glow of some unknown inner power inside the egg made the shell appear like it was beating— breathing and pulsating, its hue becoming stronger and more bright.
"Why would Lulu give me something this precious?" Coco mumbled, touching the shell and caressing the surface softly.
Coco shifted in the bed, her arms wrapping around and covering it with her blanket before she snuggled with the magical egg.
"You’re quite warm." She hummed, hugging the egg closer to her chest.
I don’t know why, but it feels like I’m holding a teddy bear.
