Chapter 166: An uncalled accusation

"What was that about, Quizen?"

It has been approximately five minutes since Coco left the house, leaving nothing, but silence and tension on her wake, making everyone stare at the door that she slammed shut on her way out. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Now, this was not the first time Coco had stormed out of the house, but this was the first that she looked genuinely upset.

Quizen swallowed thickly and looked away from the door, his blue eyes shifting downwards as he started to fidget with the hem of his clothes.

"I.. I saw her having a conversation with the woman that works at the desk at the inn." The fourth husband muttered, his voice small and quiet compared to his booming voice earlier when he was arguing with Coco.

"The mediator?" Heiren quipped, his eyebrows shooting up to his hairline.

"Yeah.. That one." Quizen answered truthfully and huffed, "The woman was smiling and laughing while having a conversation with our wife.. It was quite clear that she was flirting with Coco."

Zaque’s eyes narrowed into a light glare. "And? What did Coco say about this matter?"

Quizen let out a scoff and rolled his eyes at Zaque’s question, as if he had just heard the most common thing in the land. "Isn’t it obvious? Of course, she would say that I got it wrong and would tell me I’m saying nonsense— which she actually did, before dragging me back here."

Zaque could only stare pointedly towards the fourth husband and let out a sigh through his nose, feeling torn on having to choose a side between his friends and his wife.

"Did you have proof that she was being flirted with— no, what made you think that Coco was being flirted with? And why did it trigger a bad response from you?" Zaque changed his question mid sentence and quickly spun it around towards Quizen.

"As far as I know, even if Coco gets flirted with, she will not return the words said or gesture because she is already busy enough as is. Having to provide for the four of us." Zaque said, ultimately deciding to side with their upset wife.

Besides, why wouldn’t he side with the head of the house?

Zaque knows that Coco truly does not have enough time on her hands to bring anyone else inside her room unless she initiates it— which she believes that she would not do.

Coco had told him numerous times that she would not do such an ugly thing to him or the other husbands so he decided to place a blind trust on her because he truly believes that she was not the Coco Hughes he knows.

She had proven numerous times that she was not their wife anymore, but a different person.

".. What makes you believe that the woman had that exact intention that you have in mind towards our wife?" Zaque asked, tilting his head as he continued to stare down at Quizen.

Quizen felt like he was dumped with cold water because of the questions the first husband threw his way.

"Hm? Quizen? Why do you think such a thing towards Coco when she’s doing nothing, but think of us while she’s out there, fighting for her life just to bring back something for us to eat?" Zaque shot another question and narrowed his eyes at Quizen.

At this point, Alhai and Heiren decided to mind their own business, with the second husband rushing back to the stove to continue cooking while the third husband settled himself on the dining table.

It has been awhile since Zaque got upset with any of them which is why the other two mediators would rather mind their own business than get on the first husband’s bad side.

On the other hand, Quizen could only keep his head down out of fear of making Zaque upset even further.

"I don’t know why you’re so bent on finding faults on Coco lately." Zaque shook his head and pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing heavily.

"You already said it yourself last night, right? That she kept on coming back to the inn later than usual because she had monsters sent to the butcher shop?" Zaque pulled his hand away and frowned at Quizen.

"An uncalled accusation should be the least of Coco’s worries right now, but she went on her way to tell you that you got it all wrong." The red haired mediator turned away and walked towards the dining table, pulling a chair and taking a seat on it.

"She even walked you back home, didn’t she? All because of what? Because you thought that she would let that woman climb to her bed?"

"No.. But Ruby has been eyeing her—"

"A lot of people have been eyeing our wife as of late, Quizen." Zaque abruptly cut the fourth husband’s words with a sharp tone, "Besides, that woman is working there, right? Maybe she just wanted to be her friend."

"Tsk.. Who would want to be Coco’s friend?" Quizen grumbled the words under his breath.

"What did Coco tell you about what happened? Before you accused her of nonsense?" Zaque asked as he raised an eyebrow at Quizen’s way.

Quizen flinched in his spot and he was quick to look away from Zaque. "That.. That Ruby was only sitting with her so she could apologize to her because Ruby treated her with blatant hostility."

"I see." Zaque nodded his head slowly in understanding, "And you accused her of..?"

Quizen lowered his gaze down to the floor and kept his mouth shut, already knowing that Zaque knew what he told Coco without remorse.

The first husband let out a loud sigh once more.

Alhai’s grip on his book tightened ever so slightly when he heard the sound while Heiren stirred the boiling broth inside of the pot faster.

"An uncalled accusation because of what again?" Zaque frowned upon hearing the loud silence, "Because you believed that Coco would be capable of doing such a thing?"

Zaque only sighed again.
