Chapter 160: Questions, questions, questions..

"I heard from the guards that all of you had just got back from the city when I threw all of you down here." Coco started with a smile, "Is that true?"

The men didn’t hesitate to nod their heads, afraid that the woman before would give them the same date as their so-called boss who had got all of them into this mess in the first place.

Coco’s face brightened up significantly at their nonverbal confirmation towards the information.

"Fantastic! What are the procedures you have to undergo to be accepted in the city? Do I need something to get inside or something?" Coco asked the next question and stared at them with wide eyes, filled with eagerness and curiosity.

"I want to go to the city so badly to know if I have other choices of earning money because this village is as big as it can get, but it’s not enough." She hummed out, telling them a little more about herself.

However, even if she did say something about herself, the men had their mouths shut and have not stopped cowering in the corner.

Seeing this, her smile faded.

Coco stared blankly at them. "If no one answers me right away, I may as well do the same method I used to your frien—"

"You have to get a permit slip from the village chief to get inside the city!" One of the men yelled out as he stopped Coco from finishing her statement because he felt like she would do it in a heartbeat after finishing her sentence.

Coco smiled once again and nodded her head in understanding. "I see.. Just a permit slip from Chief Salamandara? Is that all I need?"

"Ye.. Yes! Just a permit slip!" Another one answered right away.

"And? How do I get a permit slip from the village chief herself? Do I need to do something for her?" Coco immediately asked the next question and stared at them, not missing a beat and not wasting a second of her time.

"N.. No.. You just need to tell her why you need to get inside the city and she would ask questions about your purpose.. If.. If she’s satisfied, the.. Then, she will give you the permit slip." The smallest one of the group answered, his voice shaking as he looked away.

Coco nodded her head in understanding once more, taking a mental note about the things she learned.

"How about the licence for being a hunter? I heard from a little birdie that all of you are licensed hunters so I’m sure you know the procedure as well." She kept the friendly smile on her face as she stared down at them.

Just who is giving her all this information?! freewēbnoveℓ.com

The men wanted to yell profanities at the person who told the woman about their occupation, to yell that they should mind their own business and not get anyone else in trouble.

However, they know that they wouldn’t be able to do so because they are too much of a coward.

"Yes.. We are hunters.. But we barely passed! The stages of getting your license were harder than it sounds!" The biggest of the group exclaimed, huffing his words slightly as if he was venting and momentarily forgetting that he was talking to the woman who had sucker punched him.

"Aww, how hard was it for you to barely pass?" Coco noticed the shift in the man’s demeanor and decided to take advantage of it.

"The first stage was to take a written examination! Who do they think we are? Students?!" The man growled the words out and looked like he was about to explode from the pent up frustration.

All his friends could do was stare at him in shock, not fully expecting that the supposedly calm one of the group would lash out like this because of a mere exam.

"Then, don’t get me started on the second stage! They asked us to try out our weapons against training dummies to test out our strength! If you pass, they’ll take you to the second phase of the second stage and have you catch a monster they caught themselves!"

Coco could nod her head as the man spouted the words out, the anger and frustration were clean on each word which made her feel a little bad, but she knew better than to actually feel like that.

If only he didn’t do those things to her husbands and probably to other mediators as well, then she would have befriended him without hesitation.

Coco hummed and shifted in her seat. "And then?"

She urged him to continue his story, keeping her posture straight before leaning forward slightly to show him that she was attentively listening to his ramblings.

"If you managed to kill the monsters they caught for you, you would immediately be sent to the next stage." The man said, his body language becoming more relaxed as he leaned away from his friends to get a little closer to Coco.

"What’s the third stage then?" Coco kept her smile steady and ignored the subtle shift in the man’s demeanor.

If things went awry, she doesn’t have to worry about herself because it was obvious that the gap between their strengths are far too large.

"They will partner you up with random people and will send all of you to clear a certain spawn stone near the city." The man started and frowned, "I hated the third stage since I got separated from my friends because they would rather partner you to other people for some reason."

Coco hummed and nodded her head again.

"My group was sent to a tough crocodile spawn stone and well.. To be honest, I didn’t have to do much because someone who was strong was in our group." He raised a hand and scratched the back of his head sheepishly.

"He was quite strong and took down the tough crocodiles on his own with the things he bought with him."

"What things?"
