Chapter 151: A strange reward

"Are we going the right way, Lala?"

Coco has been walking through deeper into the Jire Forest for the last twenty minutes, her eyes glued on the path ahead of her and her ears strained to listen to the sounds of any monsters that may be lurking nearby.

After she received the quest from Lulu, she decided to finish harvesting the fruits as quickly as she could and stored the basket in her personal inventory.

Before they left the mountain, Lala had to take care of the banana trees that Coco took down and had to send away the other tropical fruit trees back to her own world, making sure to not leave any trace of unknown magic.

The garden fairy received a scroll that contains a map of the area where they needed to go.

Since then, Coco ventured down the mountain to the waterfall and went to the unexplored area of the forest— where Lala was leading her to because she couldn’t see what was inside the scroll.

"Yep, we’re going the right way." The garden fairy assured her as she buried her face deeper into the scroll, "Don’t worry, Coco. I’m good at reading maps so we won’t get lost."

Coco blinked and shot a glance, void of emotion, at the fairy’s way, not minding if they did get lost because of her.

Coco looked away, her eyes immediately locking on the path she’s walking through and left the fairy to lead her where they needed to go.

Oddly enough, their surroundings were peaceful and filled with different noises.

As she moved through the forest, her footsteps silent on the uneven ground, the trees around her were tall and sturdy looking, their leaves swaying in the gentle breeze, creating a soothing sound.

She took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of the earth and the growing things that surrounded her.

While she walked, she felt the tension and stress leave her body slowly, replaced by a feeling of slight frustration and sadness.

Even with the peaceful atmosphere of the forest, it still can’t draw the worries and memories from her mind, which only made her footsteps and heart heavier than before— each step making her want to crawl back to the bed in the inn and rot the day away.

"We’re getting near, Coco." The garden fairy spoke up, snapping Coco out of her inner turmoil.

Thankfully, she has a lovely and thoughtful companion with her so her heart doesn’t feel that empty, but there was still a certain heaviness lingering.

"Let’s turn right here." Lala said, instructing Coco to make a turn and the latter did as she was told.

She turned right without much thought, the sole of her worn out shoes digging on the ground as she walked down the new path said by the fairy.

"Hmm.. The spawn stone or point is up ahead.. But we should be clear because the abnormality sister Lulu mentioned is getting closer." Lala mumbled under her breath, her focus solely on the small brown scroll in her hand.

"Just a bit more and we’re almo—"

SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!

Coco’s heart leapt in her chest as a sudden squeal erupted somewhere ahead of her, the high-pitched sound piercing the peaceful quiet of the forest.

Her body tensed instinctively, muscles instinctively tensing, and her hand moved to hold out her palm, taking the unbreakable hoe out of her inventory and appearing in her palm.

She didn’t waste any time before she darted towards the nearest tree, her body moving with a quick and unsurprising grace.

With a single swift motion, she leapt into the air and grabbed the nearest tree branch, pulling herself up into the leaves with ease, her feet finding a sturdy branch with ease.

The tree branch swayed slightly beneath her weight, but held firm, the leaves of the tree rustling softly as they were jostled by her movement and wordlessly settled in the branches, her body almost disappearing into the shadows of the leaves

The branch was thick and sturdy, supporting her weight easily as she settled herself up onto it, her body held tight against the trunk, her eyes scanning her surroundings for any sign of movement.

The tree’s thick group of leaves provided cover, hiding her from view as she waited for a sign of the flying monster.

Coco’s eyes narrowed at the sight of the flying pig, her body going still in anticipation. freewёbnoνel.com

She watched as the pig approached, blissfully ignorant of her hidden presence, its flight unsteady and awkward which made her muscles tense as she got ready to pounce.

"Be quick, Coco." Lala whispered, watching intently as the flying pig got closer to their hiding spot.

When the flying pig was close enough— with lightning speed and precision, Coco was quick to lunge out from hiding, her body a blur of motion.

She swung the unbreakable hoe with all her might, the weapon whistling through the air as it connected with the flying pig, the hoe connected with a crunch, the impact so strong that the flying pig’s bones shattered with a horrifying snap.

The pig let out a pained squeal as it crashed to the ground, its body crumpled and motionless.

Coco landed beside the fallen flying pig, her body not showing any sign of struggle with the unbreakable hoe clutched tightly in her hand.

"Amazing! That was quick!" Lala praised the handiwork of her human friend, "But now, we can continue to our destination! It’s very close here so I think this flying pig was looking for it."

Coco stored the flying pig inside the inventory along with the unbreakable hoe and followed behind Lala.

The two of them continued to walk for a couple of minutes before they went out to a clearing, littered by several mangled bodies of flying pigs with something shining in the middle of the bloody mess.

"That’s the egg!" Lala exclaimed, a large smile on her face before she flew across the dead bodies of monsters.

".. All this for a strange reward?"
