Chapter 139: Rogue.. Kairo.. Who? [2]

Kairo stared at Coco with wide eyes.

"What..?" He murmured, craning his neck and staring up at her.

"I don’t remember anything about you to be honest." Coco said and shrugged her shoulders, "I don’t remember anyone except for my husbands and some of the people I met at the village."

"Are you saying that you lost your memory?" Kairo frowned and stood up, "Or are you pulling my leg?"

"I’m not pulling anyone’s leg, man." Coco stated with a straight face as she narrowed her eyes towards him, "You’ve been nothing, but rude to me ever since we met and now you’re telling me that I know you from four years ago?"

Kairo stared at her, not saying anything and Coco stared back at him. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

The silence between them was loud, but no one dared to break silence except for one person.

"Hey! Stop staring and explain yourself, will you?! You can’t just say that Coco Hughes promised you something without saying the rest of the details!" Lala complained, clutching Coco’s hair tightly in her hands.

Coco kept a neutral expression, but she was also dying to know the details just like Lala.

Who wouldn’t, right?

Finally, after a moment of silence and staring, Kairo’s face twisted into a frown and sighed.

"Seeing that you were looking at me straight in the eyes, I guess you’re telling me the truth.." Kairo mumbled and looked away from Coco, "Does that mean that you won’t be marrying me?"

"I think the answer is already obvious." Coco responded and kept her eyes on Kairo’s face, observing the way the corner of his lips twitched after hearing her response.

"So, you don’t want me to bear your child? Even if I can give birth to a pureblood Hughes heir?" Kairo questioned, raising his gaze from the ground to her eyes and meeting her gaze, a look of sadness crossing his features.

Coco could already tell that the man before her is a mediator and not an actual man.

She was unsure of it the other day because he was quite stronger than an average mediator, the way he squeezed his arms around her and accidentally hurt her was a testament of his strength.

"Look.. Just because you can give birth to pure blood doesn’t mean I’m interested— actually, who gives a shit about pure blood heirs or not? We’re not in a romance medieval era novel where bloodlines matter." Coco grumbled and frowned at him.

"Besides, you shouldn’t offer yourself like that to someone just because you need a roof over your head." Coco said, the tone of her switching from telling him off to reprimanding him.

"Your body is worth more than being a baby carrier." Coco huffed out as she placed her hands on her hips, "You could focus on getting a job as a start and earn money, then once you’re satisfied, you can go and look for a woman or a man that you would want as your spouse."

"Then boom! Make a baby that you will nurture with both love and care!" She exclaimed with a smile, "Doesn’t that sound promising?"

Kairo didn’t answer and only stared at her which made Coco laugh nervously, realizing that she let her mouth run and tell a stranger about things that she shouldn’t stick her head to because it’s none of her business.

"Anyway, I have four husbands whom I need to take care of, I don’t want to add another one." Coco said, answering his question and rejecting him at the same time.

"You don’t have to take care of me." Kairo interjected and stood up, making Coco flinch and take a step back.

"I can take care of myself." He assured her, a look of determination and confidence in his purple eyes, " I was taught how to work outside of a household and had honed my skills over the years—"

"That’s not what I meant, dude!" Coco hissed and glared at him, "I’m telling you no, okay? Four husbands is enough for me! I don’t want to add another one."

"But—"

"No." Coco rejected him firmly and crossed her arms, "I don’t know you and I don’t want another spouse."

"Oh." Kairo mumbled and frowned, "If it’s about you not knowing who I am, then that can be rearranged. I’m Kairo, also known as Rogue, I’m the only child of my parents and I’m—"

"No means no." Coco cut him off and sighed, "Let’s just go back, I don’t have enough energy for this."

Coco didn’t wait for him to respond and started walking to the direction of the picnic area, her footsteps light and quick, her desire to get away from Kairo overpowering her desire to get to know all the details about him and Coco Hughes.

"Coco!" Kairo called out, which was soon followed by rushed footsteps, "I don’t want anyone else! What can I do to make you marry me?"

Coco said nothing and kept her gaze ahead of her, her walking pace getting faster and faster.

"If this was because I was mean to your friends and to the Young master’s friends, then I’m sorry! I won’t do it again!" Kairo said, raising his voice so Coco could hear what he was saying.

The sound of water splashing and cheerful laughter with a mix of Renaldo’s voice telling his wife to be careful reached Coco’s ears, making her let out a breath of relief.

She doesn’t have to deal with Kairo’s nonsense any longer.

However, before she could get out of the forest to the picnic area, a hand snatched her wrist and pulled her back.

"Please." Kairo pleaded as he pressed Coco’s back against his chest, hugging her gently and being gentle, keeping in mind that she has wounds on her back, "Just give me a chance. You promised."

"I said no." Coco broke free almost immediately and glared at him, "Don’t push your luck. I’m not the same Coco as before."

Coco turned and walked away, leaving Kairo feeling numb.
