New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 114: It’s not mine!
Chapter 114: It’s not mine!
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
"Coco.. Someone is knocking.." Lala mumbled incoherently, her voice laced with sleep as she pat Coco’s cheek weakly.
She was rubbing her eyes to get rid of her sleep, but she was too sleepy to do so, making her drop her head on Coco’s cheek and lean on it, her mouth falling open as she snored.
The two friends were knocked out cold due to how late they got back to the inn.
It was already two in the morning when they arrived at the town and had to wait for Jonathan to give her the food he bought from the street vendors back in Yolo Village, then he sent her back to where she came from.
Of course, she didn’t forget to pay him for his services.
She showed up at his house unannounced and dragged him out of the village before supper so Coco was responsible for feeding him.
It was a good thing that Joachim let her buy a packed meal on their trip which she gave to Jonathan to fill his stomach for dinner, but it also ultimately made him accept Coco’s request to escort her.
She was a good client though!
She gave him money for the teleportation thing, gave him money to buy whatever he wants, he bought back five hundred silver coins from the thousand silver coins, and even shared embarrassing moments with him on their way back.
If it were not for Jonathan, she would not have known how to get to Yolo Village so she’s thankful for Heiren for introducing the two of them.
Although.. It would have been great if Heiren didn’t have to be that mad at her for asking a book title—
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Coco was jolted awake by the sharp and obnoxiously loud knocks on the door, the sound jarring her out of her sleep which made her body jolt upright as her eyes flew open.
She could feel the fairy shifting on her cheek, making her blink slowly, trying to feel where she was at the moment.
She sat up slowly, her heart racing as she tried to shake off the grogginess of sleep and trying not to bother the garden fairy in her sleep— she needs her beauty rest and Coco does, too.
However, whoever was at the door was persistent, the knock coming again, much louder this time.
Coco’s eyes adjust to the dim light of the room, thanks to the curtains blocking the sunlight that wants to get inside through the window.
She threw the tangled covers off her legs, her feet hitting the cold floor as she rose from the bed.
The grogginess still lingered in her eyes so she kind of stumbled out of bed, the noise of the knock still ringing in her ears, making it her drive to get to the door to make it stop.
She stumbled toward the door as she pulled on a green silk robe to cover her pajamas, her movements still sluggish from sleep.
The woman opened the door, her expression sleepy and weary as she saw her friend standing in the doorway.
"What are you doing here? It’s too early." Coco grumbled towards Jacques, her eyebrows furrowed as she glared at the pink haired woman.
Jacques didn’t speak and Coco focused her eyesight fully on her, immediately noticing the way her friend’s eyes scanned over her, her expression a mixture of emotions— startled, amused, and concerned?
"What happened to you? Usually, at this time, you’re already up and about, ready to go out of the village." Jacques mused, her face twisting into worry.
"Oh.. I was—"
"Move, move! Let me help you prepare! We need to catch and sell something good tonight because there will be visitors today!" Jacques tutted out, grabbing Coco’s waist and guiding her out of the way gently.
Coco groaned.
Does she look like she’s ready to go out there to catch monsters and shit? Her hair was still tangled and messy, sticking up at odd angles, her pajama bottoms wrinkled and her shirt still slightly askew!
The sleepy woman’s appearance was rough, her clothes wrinkled and her face lined with tiredness, the clear sign of exhaustion still evident.
"I know that you’re tired and all, but we must sell something today, Coco." Jacques reminded her again, her voice firm.
"I get it, I get it.." Coco mumbled, running a hand down on her face as she closed the door, grabbing her towel from the back of the chair as well as the soap and shampoo on the corner.
"Here! This one looks like you will be able to work out on it." Jacques said, thrusting the clothing on Coco’s arms and making Coco look at it.
"This is new and I haven’t used it yet." Coco pointed out, shaking her head.
"When are you going to use it then?" Jacques raised an eyebrow, "When the sun finally rose from the north?"
Coco groaned for the second time. "Fine, fine, fine.. You sound like my big sister, geez.. That’s a compliment, by the way."
"How is it a compliment to be told that I’m like your sister that you don’t have?" Jacques raised an eyebrow again, crossing her arms in front of her.
Oh, shit.. Coco is an only child in this world.. Coco felt herself get jolt awake by her realization.
".. It’s a compliment because I had a sister figure before." Coco made a lie on the spot, forcing a smile on her face and raising a hand to pat Jacques on the arm, "Don’t sweat it too much, yeah?"
"Whatever." Jacques sighed and turned around.
Coco was about to walk out of the door when she heard Jacques call out to her.
"I didn’t know you read this kind of book." The pink haired woman blinked, her eyes wide in surprise and glinting mischievously.
"What? No! That’s not mine!" Coco immediately protected her honor.
"It’s okay, Coco.. We’re all grown ups here."
"It’s really not mine?!"
