Chapter 112: Yolo Village

"I swear! I won’t do that again next time!" Coco promised to Jonathan, a determined look on her face as they walked through the bustling street of the Yolo Village.

It took them approximately thirty minutes before they reached the village because Coco was swaying on the whole way to the gates, grumbling incoherent words under her breath as she tried to shrug off the dizziness.

Thankfully, the nauseousness disappeared when she saw the gates of the village.

The Yolo village was strangely similar in some ways to Chinatown back in her world— with the streets filled with shops selling fresh produce and the scent of spices and food floating through the air.

Even the narrow streets and alleyways are lined with small shops and restaurants, their signs painted with bright colors and exotic characters.

The sidewalks were crowded with people, their voices speaking in cheerful bursts of laughter and enthusiastic chatter.

Not only that, with the air being thick with the smell of spices and cooking food, it was obvious that it would be mixed with the sounds of street vendors calling out to potential customers.

It was filled with people, but despite the crowded streets and noise, the village still had a certain charm, the unique shops and restaurants giving the area a unique familiar atmosphere close to her old world.

Unlike in Yogusho village, the Yolo village has its streets teemed with life, the people busy even late into the night.

Has she mentioned the way people look? She hasn’t yet? Well, they’re all pretty!

The people of the village had distinct appearances, their features a mix of traditional Chinese and modern influences— albeit looking slightly unrealistic, but somehow realistic at the same time.

Some had long hairstyles with intricate braids, while others had short hair that were spiky and messy.

The men’s long hair was pulled back into topknots, their clothing a mixture of both formal and casual at the same time while some of the women’s hair was shorter, the front sections braided delicately and adorned with clips of every color you could think of.

The differences in fashion are wide, but both the men and women shared a certain air of sophistication, their faces friendly and welcoming.

Also, the people seemed close-knit and friendly in their own way, their laughter filling the air and the sounds of conversations echoing through the streets!

"This is one amazing village." Coco said, her eyes shining in amazement as Jonathan dragged her to the nearest and only bookstore of the village, his mind set on the reason why they were there in the first place.

"It’s not really that amazing." Jonathan retorted back, crushing her expectation one more time, "It may not seem like it, but this village is known as the village of life."

Coco perked up, immediately knew what it meant.

"Prostitution exists here?" Coco gasped, her eyes wide in surprise and disbelief, even though she somehow expected that such a world would have a brothel or two, but she didn’t know that one was this close to Yogusho Village.

"Yes." Jonathan answered, his eyes looking ahead and towering over almost everyone he passes by, "This village has four brothels, two that only have mediators, one that only has a woman, and one that only has a man— since some people are into that."

"Woah.. We learn something new everyday, huh?" Coco murmured, blinking as she slowly looked away from Jonathan, letting him drag her further.

It didn’t take long for Jonathan to come to a stop, his feet digging on the ground as he stared at the double doors before him.

"Is this it?" Coco asked, a smile on her face.

"Yeah." Jonathan’s response was quick and short, as if he was reminded of something harsh.

"Well, I’ll go in." Coco said and gave him a pat on the arm before walking through the bookstore, "Wait for me here or you can walk around and buy something to munch on! I slipped some coins in your bag earlier!"

Jonathan blinked, then his eyes went wide. "Wait, what—"

Coco closed the doors on his face, a proud huff escaping through her nose as she walked towards the counter, her hand slipping through the opening of her bag and taking the piece of paper out.

"Excuse me, sir!" Coco called the attention of the man behind the counter, making him look up from his book, his sharp and steel grey eyes narrowing towards her.

"I would love to know if you still have these books up for sale. I would love to buy a single copy of each." Coco’s enthusiasm didn’t falter, that man’s stares having no effect on her since she always deals with it on a daily basis.

The man snatched the paper from her hand and read the titles, his perfectly arched eyebrows raising to his hairline as he did so.

"You’re not a mediator, right?" The man asked, his voice was smooth, but monotone.

"I am not, sir." Coco answered, her smile still on her face, but slightly confused as to why he was asking such a question.

What does it have to do with the books she has to buy?

"Fascinating." The man chuckled and shook his head, "I was saving the last copy of each book for a regular, but since she hasn’t stopped by for almost two weeks now, I’ll give it to you."

Coco brightened up, the corner of her mouth almost reaching her ears. "Yes! Thank you!"

"Well, aren’t you a lovely ball of sunshine?" The man commented before he stood up and went to the door behind the counter.

While he was gone, Coco took a quick scan on the counter, her eyes looking at the books she could buy for the other mediators at home, hoping that it wouldn’t make them feel left out.

When the man came back, he was holding three large thick books and placed them carefully on the counter.

"That would be a total of eighteen gold coins."
