New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 111: Night travel to Yolo Village
Chapter 111: Night travel to Yolo Village
After receiving the names of the books Alhai wanted, she immediately thrust the basket on Alhai’s hand and excused herself, running away from him.
How can she not?
Books with titles like that normally contain questionable contents back in her world! What if it’s the same in this world? Would Alhai be a potential bad person—
Coco shook the thought away, clutching her bag tightly.
"You okay?" Coco blinked, perking up and looking at Jonathan who was raising an eyebrow towards her.
"You look like you saw a ghost or something. I’ve been into this woods numerous times, I can assure you that I haven’t seen any of those supernatural things people like to gossip about." Jonathan stated, reassuring her that there’s no ghost.
"That’s not what I was worried about." Coco rubbed her temples and sighed, "It’s the book that my husband wanted, I’m not sure if it still has a copy."
"Is it that same mediator who brought you to my house before?" Jonathan asked, keeping his eyes up ahead of them, looking out for any sign of traps and danger.
"Nope. Heiren and Alhai are different people, but they’re both mediators. Lovely, caring, and kind—"
"Blerggh! Bleeerggh!" Lala let out several gagging noises from her shoulder and, unintentionally or purposely, cut Coco’s words off, making it seem like she meant the words she said.
"I didn’t know that your mediator was kind." Jonathan said and hummed, "He doesn’t seem like it when he mentioned you before."
"He mentioned me?" Coco blinked, not really surprised.
Well, everyone must have mentioned Coco Hughes to everyone they know, right? She’s the infamous Coco Hughes after all! Who would want to miss the chance to gossip about the trash of the Yogusho Village?
"He only said that his wife is a dead meat who can’t do anything so he had to hire me." The man shrugged, a bored expression on his face.
"That’s an interesting choice of words.." Coco murmured, she was expecting something worse, but that was pretty tame..? She didn’t know, she just felt like Heiren could spout a better insult towards their abusive wife.
"Anyway! How long do we have to walk to reach the transportation station?" Coco whisked her head and looked at Jonathan, changing the topic.
"We’re already here." Jonathan said, making Coco look ahead to see what the place looks like.
Only to deflate physically at the poor state of the station.
The roof was made of aged wood, the supposedly golden brown planks now faded to grey with four pillars themselves that were thick and sturdy, their bases buried in the ground to ensure their stability.
There were no walls or whatsoever, but the open space still felt secure, like how it felt whenever she’s inside the Magia Pierre, the space before her felt like it was pulsing with magic.
However..
"Oh, man.. I expected something grand." Coco whined, her hand reaching up to give herself a facepalm.
Jonathan snickered, the laughter pushing past his lips as he walked towards the transportation station which made Coco trudge behind him.
"So, what do we do here?" Coco asked, her shoulders still sagging forward due to her expectation being crushed.
"We have to drop five hundred silver coins on the station we want to be transported into." Jonathan started off as he walked towards the farthest pillar, "Each pillar has a name of the location and this one, it’s for the station at Yolo Village."
He placed his hand on the pillar, patting it with a proud smile on his face. "My gramps helped build this pillar here so people in our village can go to other villages without having to travel for days."
"Woah.. Lore drop.." Coco whispered towards Lala, the fascination clear on her face.
"This station was built exactly on top of a big magic stone so we’re currently standing on one of the biggest magic stones known to man." Jonathan stated, pointing a finger on the ground.
"What?!" Coco gasped and took a step back.
She had a slightly bad memory when it came to the magic stone because the last magic stone she touched had completely sucked out her mana in one go.
What if the magic stone beneath them suddenly sensed her and sucked her mana, too?!
"Don’t worry." Jonathan assured her with a wave of his hand, "That thing won’t do anything."
"How can you be so sure?" Coco frowned, stepping close to him and standing beside him as he rummaged through his bag.
Coco didn’t notice it at first, but now that she’s right beside him, she saw it and immediately slipped her hand inside her pocket, withdrew a gold coin and slipped it on the small space on the pillar.
Jonathan’s head snapped up when he heard a coin landing on the bottom, making his eyes go wide.
"Why’d you put it suddenl—" Jonathan hissed, but was cut off when the station started to shake, he was quick to grab Coco by the arm before they were transported.
The world shifted around Coco as though it was made of smoke, as if time had stopped and started all at once, the transition between one moment and the next happening in the blink of an eye.
The world blurred around her and her stomach twisted in knots, making her feel nauseous with her feet losing its stability, her balance was thrown off by the sudden change in location.
"It was obvious that it was your first time trying out the station! Yet, you went ahead and almost got yourself thrown out of the pillars!" Jonathan’s voice sounded slightly disoriented as he started scolding Coco for her recklessness.
Coco groaned, holding her head as her eyesight spun, her vision swimming around as if mocking her for her foolishness.
Jonathan noticed this and could only sigh. "I agreed to be your escort, but I didn’t expect that I would have to watch out for you being this hard headed.."
"I’m sooooooorry.."
Cue to another sigh.
