Chapter 110: An unexpected conversation

With the basket filled to the brim with orange, strawberry, and a few plucks of dragon fruit, she made her way back to the village, her heart cleansed off of frustration after letting it out while she was working.

"What’s a better way to let out some steam when you’re feeling that way? By working yourself to the core, of course!" Coco said to herself, hyping herself up with a nod of her head.

"Aye, aye! Working to let out some steam!" Lala agreed enthusiastically as she flew around Coco’s head, hovering just above her so Coco could walk properly.

Since she was already feeling better than earlier today, she decided to spend the rest of her day lounging inside her room or bothering her married friends to pass the time and maybe apologize why she couldn’t bring back any monsters.

When she dropped off the basket at Magia Pierre, Mrs. Tani was astonished and pleased as usual, she was even more ecstatic when Coco left a couple of dragon fruit in the basket.

She originally planned to take all the ten dragon fruits with her, but since Mrs. Tani looked like she wanted some of the exotic fruit so she decided to give her two dragon fruits as compensation for a small harvest.

Although, sure, she wasn’t the one growing the fruits she was harvesting and she’s not claiming those as hers, but Lala was completely alright at the fact that everyone thinks that Coco was growing the fruits she was bringing back to the village.

As Coco closes the door of the magic stone shop, she hears a familiar gruff yet monotone voice calling out to her a couple of feet away from her.

"Coco."

Coco’s body grew stiff and tense, her head snapped to the side to look at the main character of her quest himself.

"Alhai." Coco returned the same energy the man gave her, holding herself back from bombarding him with strange questions regarding his favorite book or any book he wants at the moment to clear the quest.

Her heart raced at the thought of successfully completing the quest on time.

Alhai stared at her with a straight face, his teal eyes blank and no sign of reaction from the greeting she returned with the same energy.

It was strange.

Is she being petty? Alhai narrowed his eyes towards her which was the only thing that moved in his face.

"I heard that you were asking for a book that I want from Zaque." He spoke up and walked towards her, "Walk me to the house and I’ll tell you more about it on our way there."

Alhai watched as Coco’s face brightened up significantly, her eyes shining in excitement and happiness, spinning in her heels and clutching the small basket in her grip with a large smile on her face.

Why does she look happy?

She was about to make a fool of herself, but she looked like she was looking forward to knowing what kind of book he was into.

Strange. Alhai thought once again which he seems to be thinking of for a while now ever since she came back from the forest after disappearing for almost two weeks and declared to everyone that she’s not their wife anymore.

However, he knows better that such a feat has not been made in their world yet.

Though, it doesn’t seem impossible for them to start using magic, but right now, they only have mana to restore magic in magic stones, they can’t use or cast magics themselves, having to rely on apparatuses which magic stones get inserted into.

So, Coco saying that she’s a different person now, doesn’t have documents to explain her occurrence, making it false no matter what.

Clenching his fists lightly, when Coco walked beside him and matched his pace, he opened his mouth and spoke.

"The book I’ve been wanting to get was one of the bestsellers everywhere." Alhai started, his teal eyes staring blankly ahead of him, "Since it has been a while since the copy was released, the last bits might have their prices go up."

"Don’t worry!" Coco exclaimed, barely containing the excitement she was feeling, "I can get you whatever book you want! Just tell me the title! What is it? Is it a series?"

Alhai didn’t answer immediately, there was a quick pause on his part before he nodded his head, "There are three books, I believe. If you can, I would love to get them."

"Cool, name it and I’ll get it for you! Who’s the author? Oh, wait— I think it would be better if you write down the title and the author so I won’t forget." Coco was fast to backtrack her first initial set of questions and change it halfway.

"I’ll be happy to write it down." Alhai said, but there was no sign of happiness in his face nor voice, just the same boring and blank expression that he has since he started the conversation.

Fortunately for Coco, the sun hasn’t come down yet and the sky hasn’t changed its pretty canvas, still the bright orange with a mix of pink hue.

"Wait here, I’ll write it down quickly." Alhai told Coco as he pointed on the corner before they turned to the house.

Coco didn’t protest and nodded her head. "Got it."

"He’s insufferable!" Lala huffed out as soon as Alhai walked inside the house, her cheeks puffed up in anger, "He’s so full of himself like he’s the boss of you or something! It’s annoying!"

"It’s okay! Deal with it for now for the quest and focus on the outcome!" Coco pumped her fists in the air and puffed out air through her nose, feeling energized.

It didn’t take long for Alhai to come back and hand her a piece of paper, she blinked and read the name out loud.

"A human desire..? A human hell.. A mediator’s cage?" She swallowed, feeling intimidated with the names of the book that he wanted.
