Chapter 185: New Magic Bo

After my group and I had tried a bunch of different methods to chop the wood of the arcana trees, I came up with another idea.

The trees could hold a lot of magic inside, and while my MP alone wasn’t enough to override all of the energy, I thought that if the whole group did it simultaneously, we would have a chance.

Approaching the tree that Vespera left with its roots uncovered, I asked my companions to infuse their magic into it with me.

"Let’s all grab one of the roots..." I said.

"Why from the roots?" Melina asked, wondering if it wouldn’t be the same as grabbing the trunk.

When I inspected the tree, I could see that the energy coursing through the trunk was the most potent one.

Magical energy could be felt coming from every single part of the tree, including all of the leaves and small branches extruding from it.

However, even though its roots also had a considerable amount of MP, I could tell that it was the tree’s weakest spot.

Yoru joined us in infusing the trees while the battle-maids stood close by just in case anything strange happened.

After counting to three, we all grabbed one of the roots at the same time and began forcibly infusing our magic into it, making the roots and the trunk produce a soft blue glow.

Our hands were stuck to the tree as it tried to suck all of our magic, but with four of us going at the same time, it would take a lot longer before any of us ran out of MP.

After a minute, it was as if the tree knew that we were trying to saturate it with magic, and instead of keeping our hands stuck to it to suck our MP, it started producing small electric charges to get us off.

Luckily, the tree’s defense wasn’t enough to hurt us thanks to the enchantment in our ponchos, allowing us to stay focused on our infusion.

At one point, the roots started to turn a reddish color, and I could feel how it was reaching its maximum capacity.

Suddenly, the tree used all of the MP deposited inside and released it in an attempt to blow us away from it as a last-resort defense mechanism.

Still, I expected something like that to happen, and the moment that the tree released its energy, I quickly pulled out my mithril dagger and sliced the trunk with one swift and decisive slice.

My reasoning for it was that the tree used magic to block physical and magical attacks, but if it used all of its energy to try to protect from one type of attack, then the other would be more effective.

Since the tree focused its defense mechanism on protecting itself against our magic infusion, it didn’t have enough to protect against physical attacks.

Once the trunk slowly fell, we noticed how all of the magic accumulated inside it had calmed down.

When we first inspected the arcana trees, it was as if we could see wild-looking energy flowing from it violently, but now that the trunk was lying on the ground, all of that energy had compacted in harmony.

It wasn’t sucking our energy anymore, and feeling a bit more excited about my new weapon, I put my hands on the trunk and focused on creating a new bo with nature magic.

’It’s been a while since I made a bo...’ I thought.

Not even ten seconds later, my new weapon was ready, and it felt absolutely amazing to hold.

The wood didn’t suck our energy anymore. Instead, it complimented it.

If I tried covering the bo with flames like I used to, the fire would burn much hotter than with the redwood, which was one of the effects of the arcana tree.

We still had a lot of the trunk left, and I was already thinking of new things that I could craft with it, so I stowed away the rest inside my void pocket.

After what felt like a battle against a tree, we returned to Safe Haven to rest since it actually took a lot of our MP to take it down.

When we got there, we saw many beastkin packing food supplies on crates and using the elevator to take them to the bottom of the mountain.

Codo, the chief of Safe Haven, was delegating the beastkin around and guiding them as they carried the heavy boxes to the elevator.

Curious about what they were doing, we approached Codo and asked what all those crates were for, and he told us that they were sending resources to the other settlements.

Now that the threat of the ghost gorillas had been dealt with, they thought it was the best time for them to send aid to their families at the settlements in the jungle.

However, it would take them a few days to reach all of the settlements, so Codo was thinking of sending more beastkins to ensure that the mission went well.

Melina looked at me, her eyes clearly telling me that she wanted to help them out, and clenched the sleeve of my poncho apprehensively.

’I know, I know. I also want to help...’ I thought, giving Melina a smile as I turned to look back at Codo and offered our teleport services to send the crates quickly.

Since we had visited pretty much all of the settlements in the jungle, it would only take us a few minutes to send them the crates.

Nonetheless, we asked Codo if we could do it the following day since we had used a lot of MP when working with the arcana trees.

We could have drank an MP potion, but those were better saved for emergencies since it’s not like it made our bodies feel any less tired.

The chief seemed apprehensive at first, saying he didn’t want to impose any more problems on us.

Still, it’s not like we had anything better to do, and using our powers to help people was the main reason Melina even wanted to keep learning magic in the first place, so this was our bread and butter.
