My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 182: Ghost Gorilla
Chapter 182: Ghost Gorilla
After the chief Bodego gave us a map with the other settlements marked down, we made our way to the closest one the next morning.
It was located on higher ground at the top of a small hill, but there were more home shacks than in the previous one.
We got there by flying and arrived right in the center of the settlement, alerting all of the beastkin as they grabbed their weapons and pointed them at us.
Once again, I was surprised at seeing their primitive weapons that had adamantite parts. Spears with wooden handles that looked like they could break from a single blow but had adamantite speartips that they imbued with magic.
Gina and Carli stepped up to talk to them and told them that we had visited the other settlement, mentioning Bodego so that they knew we were telling the truth.
In fact, Bodego gave us a wooden pin with a symbol carved on it that let them know we were allies, alleviating the beastkins concerns and making them lower their weapons.
This settlement didn’t look as destroyed as the first one, but that was because there were more fighters here that could protect their homes.
They had been swarmed by monsters every day for months, so most of the people in the settlement were warriors and archers.
I asked Vespera and Yoru to check the perimeter of the settlement and to scare away any monster that was trying to get close. Meanwhile, Melina and I helped the people with their homes and added protection enchantments to them.
Suddenly, we heard a loud roar, and the ground shook for a brief moment, making all of the beastkin at the settlement pick up their weapons and prepare for a fight as they yelled that the "ghost gorilla" was coming.
One of the beastkin warriors explained that a ghost gorilla had been scaring away all of the monsters from their habitats, which was why they were being attacked constantly.
Bodego told us that there was more than one of these giant gorillas, but they confirmed that only one of them was close to their settlement.
Melina and I took flight, and we easily spotted the giant gorilla that towered above the jungle trees, making its way toward the settlement.
However, just before Melina and I could launch ourselves at him, an explosive projectile hit the monster’s face.
The gorilla stumbled back a few steps, receiving another explosive attack in its stomach that left a massive open wound and made the monster roar with anger.
It was Vespera and Yoru, who were taking care of the ghost gorilla by themselves with ease.
The monster was about to destroy everything around it in a fit of rage, but Vespera finished it off as she used her spider legs to sever the monster’s head in the blink of an eye.
[Good job, guys.] I praised them telepathically as the princess and I made our way there to check the corpse.
Ghost gorillas couldn’t be eaten. Or, well, they COULD be eaten, but they weren’t going to taste any good.
However, we were told that their body parts were useful, so we decided to butcher the monster and take the valuable elements from it.
Each of its red eyes was the size of a basketball and resembled a massive ruby orb that reflected the sunlight quite strongly.
They couldn’t be used for anything, but they were apparently worth a lot since they could be seen as trophies or treasures that wealthy nobles would showcase in their homes.
The fur could be used to make leather armor since it was extremely durable and sold for a lot, as high-level adventurers wouldn’t think twice about getting a "ghost gorilla" armor.
The nails, the tail, and the teeth could be used for alchemy. Although we didn’t know what type of potions these ingredients would make, we took them all for Reinar to study them.
Once we were done with the most superficial parts of the body, we moved on to the organs since they could also be helpful.
It was pretty disgusting, but butchering monsters was never a pretty sight.
The brain, the stomachs, the liver, the heart... Most of the organs could be used for potions.
After collecting all of the parts we needed, we realized that we were surrounded by monsters. Nonetheless, they weren’t precisely surrounding us but the corpse of the ghost gorilla.
My companions and I flew up into the air and watched how the beasts from the jungle jumped onto the ghost gorilla’s corpse and started eating away.
’Hmm, I can’t tell if they are getting revenge or if this is just the cycle of life doing its thing...’ I thought, making it back to the settlement with my group to tell them that the gorilla had been defeated.
The warriors were glad, but a large group of them said that if the threat there had been taken care of, they had to move on to another settlement.
The contract for the ghost gorilla only asked for one since that was the only one present years ago before Zagor took control of their country. Still, Bodego told us that there were more of them, so we didn’t want to return to the guild just yet.
We asked the warriors which of the settlements needed our help more urgently while showing them the map that Bodego gave us, and they pointed at one that was quite far from us.
Seeing that we had to cross Bodego’s settlement again, we teleported there to skip a chunk of the way and started flying from there to the new territory.
Nonetheless, it was pretty far, so we ended up camping one night in the middle of the jungle before resuming our flight early the following day.
To our surprise, we spotted two of the ghost gorillas before reaching the settlement who were fighting each other, ripping trees off the ground and using them to hit each other.
We thought about letting them fight for a bit, but the destruction they were causing was only altering all of the monsters in the area even more.
"You take one, I’ll take the other?" I asked Melina, who nodded confidently.
As the two gorillas were about to punch each other, we flew high up in the air above them and cast a massive lightning bolt that landed on their heads, paralyzing their movements and burning them severely.
Then, we finished them off with our weapons as we crashed down on them and sliced their heads off, killing them instantly.
