Chapter 181: Open Sesame

As Bodego kept guiding our group down the temple, Melina and I were entranced by reading the English scriptures on the walls.

I found it somewhat fascinating how the drawings had their own "style," almost like a caricature, which made me think that Alejandro must have been an artist or something similar in our past world.

One of the drawings depicted a man with a spear and the label "demi-god" above, facing off against what looked like a bird on fire.

’Is this when he met Acalan...?’ I wondered.

Another one showed the same man with the spear now facing off against a giant, which was easy to conclude that it was the moment he met the Terra Titan.

All of the drawings on that main hall told the first part of Alejandro’s story and how he founded Kalusia after arriving in this world. Still, I already knew most of it since I read his diary at the library.

When we reached the end of the main hall, we went down another set of stairs and found ourselves before a massive double door that seemed to be sealed with magic.

I could feel the energy that the door extruded, and it was quite powerful. However, it didn’t feel threatening.

Melina placed her hand on the door and inspected it closer while I looked at the surroundings of the room.

"Hmm, this feels sort of like my ’lock’ spell..." said Melina.

"Makes sense. Then there should be a requirement to open it..." I replied, seeing a metal plaque on the side of the door.

When Melina and I approached the metal panel to read it, we noticed there were instructions for opening the door.

"If you can read this, then that means that you are like me.

I have left a useful artifact here that can help you.

Please return it once you are done with it so that others can use it in the future.

Only people like me will be able to solve the riddle."

"Ah, so we gotta solve this to see what the password is..." I said, looking down at the riddle that was scribbled under the metal plaque.

"In lands where magic dwells,

A simple phrase from our realm they cannot tell,

Two words long, from our world it came,

To open the door, speak its name."

"Huh? I’m confused..." Melina said after reading the riddle.

It seemed to be a riddle specifically targeted at people with their past memories.

"A phrase from our realm they cannot tell? Two words?" I pondered out loud, believing that I may have gotten the answer.

I stood in front of the double doors and felt a little embarrassed at what I was going to say, but I truly believed that it was the password we needed.

"Open sesame..." I said after letting out a tired sigh and covering my face awkwardly.

The seal on the double doors started glowing and dispersed as it slowly started to open, revealing a room that was illuminated by magic light motes, unlike the previous room, which was completely dark.

’Seriously, Alejandro!? Open sesame!?’ I thought, somewhat exasperated.

Bodego looked surprised, his eyes gleaming with admiration, while Gio and Gia stood perplexed at the back of the group.

"I knew it. As soon as I saw you two using your magic, my instincts instantly told me to bring you here..." Bodego said with a smile.

When we entered the final room, there wasn’t much other than very dense vegetation surrounding the place and a path to a small altar on the other side.

It wasn’t actually an altar but a simple stone table with a bracelet on top of it.

The band seemed to be made of black leather and had a small black pendant with the shape of an arrow dangling.

Next to the bracelet on the table was a note written in English on a piece of old papyrus.

"May this bracelet help you find the evil that lurks within." -Alejandro.

"That’s all it says!?" I exclaimed.

’Why did he have to be so vague!? Couldn’t he just write the instructions on how to use it!?’ I pondered, getting annoyed at the riddles and puzzles.

Melina grabbed the bracelet, expecting it to do something, closed her eyes, and held it away from her face. However, the armlet didn’t do anything and just dangled in her hand like an ordinary bracelet.

"Hmm, maybe you need to infuse some MP into it?" I wondered.

Melina tried it, but the bracelet wasn’t doing anything at all, so we decided to take it with us and see what its true purpose was.

Alejandro had left it here for other reincarnations to use since Bodego told us that their records showed three people had been able to open the final door of the temple, each of them separated by hundreds of years in between their appearances.

If the others found some use to the bracelet and then came back here to return it for us, then it must have had its usefulness. We just had to find out what it was.

Bodego encouraged us to take the bracelet with us, which made us feel a bit better so we wouldn’t feel like we had stolen an important relic for the jungle beastkins.

I asked him if he had a better idea of how the artifact worked, but he explained that only the users knew its true value and that its effects were never written or passed down in their records.

Basically, we had to find out for ourselves, and since we had time to spare as no urgent problem needed our attention, we took on the challenge.

After we left the temple and returned to the settlement, we asked Bodego to tell us where the other beastkin settlements in the jungle were located so that we could give them some aid too.

Bodego told us that their most important settlement was closer to the shore, where most kids and pregnant women resided. However, he explained that since that was the one all beastkins were supporting, it didn’t need our urgent help.

Instead, Bodego gave us a map of the jungle and marked down the locations of three other settlements, saying that those spots had been in constant battles with monsters.
