"Old Chen, just how long is this lynx going to follow us?"

Old Gao, unlike Yin Li, didn't have as high a tolerance for predators.

Chen Ying was also at a loss. He looked back at the lynx leisurely following behind and couldn't say a word.

"Why don't you just tell it to go find Jinya and deal with it?"

"Deal with what? Don't tell me Jinya isn't even mature yet, but as for this lynx, I also don't feel it has any feelings for Jinya."

Perhaps it was a Druid's intuition, but he felt that the lynx was far more curious about him than it was about Jinya.

Because of the large lynx, they couldn't make it to the planned destination.

By evening, they found a suitable cliff crevice to spend the night, with a tiny mountain spring nearby, at least their water needs were taken care of.

The lynx didn't leave either. It caught a rabbit and lay on the side, tearing at it bit by bit, without even blinking, just staring at Chen Ying.

They boiled water and made do with some noodles for dinner.

Old Gao hid in the tent and asked Chen Ying to take care of the large lynx.

Having a fierce beast lurking around just felt too tormenting.

"Come on, let's have a good chat."

The young large lynx dropped the ragged rabbit it was eating, circled the campfire, and lay down a bit away from the fire.

It yawned and made no attempt to hide its content expression.

"This year, I just left my mother to establish a territory of my own."

The large lynx was quite talkative, even a bit of a chatterbox. No wonder it had such strong curiosity and kept following them.

"Are you the owner of this territory? The food you eat is so weird. Why do you use this? It feels uncomfortable and might singe my fur."

"Your fur is so strange too. It's not the same color and doesn't feel as nice as mine."

Alright, this was a clueless lynx that had never seen humans before.

"Aren't you afraid I might attack you?"

"(ˉ▽ ̄~) Cut it out~~, you don't pose any threat. I just find you very approachable, like you have the scent of my mother."

"Thanks, but just like you, I'm also a male."

Chen Ying frowned, "So you just left your mother this year, does that mean you're not yet an adult?"

"I am an adult now┗|`O′|┛ Wow~~," the large lynx did a cat-like stretch, thoroughly stretching its body. "My mother said I eat too much. If I stayed with her, she and my sister wouldn't have enough to eat, so I left."

Was that it? Even in the animal kingdom, there are cases of half-grown kids bankrupting their parents?

Chen Ying's hand was itching to move.

"Do you mind if I collect some of your fur? I'm curious why you're so strong. Ordinary lynxes aren't as big as you."

"My mother said the same. When she met my father, he was a big fellow, but not as good in a fight as my sister. If it wasn't for the fact that there was only my father as a male lynx, my mother wouldn't have given him a second glance."

The large lynx rolled on the ground.

"How about that female of yours, is she tough?"

"Thanks, I don't have a female," Chen Ying said tiredly, pinching the bridge of his nose, and for some reason, he felt that neither Jinya nor Mr. Lepus were as silly as this one.

Could it be that this fellow inherited the simple-mindedness from his father?

"So, can I come to your territory to find you?"

"There is already another male lynx like you in my territory. It might not be very convenient for you to come visit."

Who knew that instead of breeding calm, the revelation made the lynx's eyes suddenly light up.

"Then I could go play with him. I would let him win."

Chen Ying's head hurt. After some thought, he decided to divert the problem eastward.

He pointed toward the higher snow-capped mountain on the opposite side, "That male's territory is near the peak of that mountain. If you want to go there, it's a bit of a distance."

The lynx excitedly scratched the trunk of a nearby tree, "No worries, I'm very skilled. I'll head off first then."

After speaking, she dropped the rabbit that she hadn't finished eating and leaped toward the opposite side.

Chen Ying rubbed his face, hoping that the next time he met Mr. Lepus, when the lynx was chasing him to punch him, it would avoid his face.

Old Gao stuck his head out for a look and smirked, "Gone already? You sure have a way with them. You truly deserve the Druid certification from the center."

"What did you say to that big guy? How exactly do you communicate? Can you teach me? I'd like to have a chat with the birds too."

Chen Ying was too lazy to even spare him a glance, crawling into the tent, "You take the first half of the night watch, then wake me up when it's time."

Old Gao was long used to staying up late in high-altitude areas, and going to bed early would just keep him awake.

Around ten o'clock, the noise in the surroundings seemed a little louder than during the day.

Old Gao carefully added a few branches to the fire, enlarging the flames.

In the dim light, he always felt like something was secretly watching him.

At two in the morning, Chen Ying awoke to find no one around.

His toes clenched, and his voice trembled as he called for Old Gao.

"Old Chen, over here, hurry."

Old Gao's voice came from the left. Chen Ying quickly turned on his flashlight and searched, finding Old Gao squatting at the edge of the forest, apparently looking at something.

Chen Ying ran over, "Old Gao, where did you steal the little monkey from?"

This was a little monkey, clearly less than half a year old, lying motionless on the ground.

"I came over and found it like this. Something seems to have deliberately thrown it here."

He had just squatted down to take a look when he heard Chen Ying calling him, less than five minutes in all.

Chen Ying handed Old Gao the flashlight to hold and cautiously stretched his hand out to touch the little monkey. It felt ice-cold but not as stiff as he had imagined.

Without a second thought, Chen Ying took off his jacket, wrapped the little monkey, and picked it up.

"Let's go, back to boiling water, there might still be hope."

Out of habit, he turned on his phone and began recording the rescue video.

With no other pot available, he had to take out the camping pot to heat some water, and then used a towel to first clean the dirt off the little monkey's body, while also checking for any external injuries.

"The little monkey's body is extremely cold; it must have been away from its mother for quite some time. Although there's no snow on the mountain, the wind is strong, and the temperature drops sharply at night, probably around minus ten degrees."

After wiping off the dirt and small pieces of ice from its body, he replaced the towel with a soft, dry one and wrapped it up before placing it in his arms to allow it to warm up.

At an emergency station, they could have used specialized warming devices to quickly heat it up, but in the wild, the human body is the best heater.

"Here, a hot water bottle, with water temperature around 25 degrees celsius; that should do it."

Old Gao, too, was an expert. Helping frozen birds with emergency care was common during winter.

Water temperature just over twenty degrees wouldn't scald the little animals and, with a soft towel between them, it was about the temperature they'd get nestling close to their parents.

"I'll take care of it, you go get some sleep. We can start later tomorrow."

Old Gao, understanding the urgency, stoked the fire a bit more and then set another pot of water to boil before yawning and heading into the tent to sleep.

Those in wildlife field research are skilled at falling asleep quickly; within two minutes of entering the tent, Old Gao's snoring started up.

Chen Ying, holding the little monkey, kept a close watch on its condition.

After a while, sensing something, he looked up towards the opposite side.

In the spot where they found the little monkey, a mother monkey with a reddish face and frost in her fur sat obediently.

As the mother monkey saw Chen Ying looking at her, she tentatively moved forward a couple of steps, then stopped, her gaze shifting between Chen Ying's face and the bundle in his arms.

"Your child?"

Chen Ying pointed to the tightly wrapped infant monkey that was showing only a small face.
