Chapter 54: Public announcement

"Next, as for me not having a share in my inheritance," Sienna resumed talking once she was sure no one would try to do anything sneaky. The lesson had been taught and the reporters wouldn’t dare risk it again.

"Why are others worried about my inheritance?" she asked, making sure to look at the main camera again.

"And did my father or anyone from my family tell you I don’t have a share in the inheritance?" Her tone was laced with so much fury that some weak reporters trembled in fear.

None of them had seen Sienna losing her calm before. When in public, she had always been dignified and calm. But now, she just seemed to have changed.

The current Sienna Lawrence was tougher, more formidable, and unbelievably tenacious. It was as if she had evolved to become another person.

"And to all of you saying that I’m not a Lawrence because I’m adopted and I don’t have the right to continue holding onto this title... if I don’t have the right, then who does? You guys?" She pointed at the camera directly.

Since the press conference was being broadcast live with a delay of a mere few seconds, everyone watching her felt as if she was asking them personally.

"I may be an adopted daughter, but I’m still a Lawrence. If you’re unhappy about this, I can’t do anything about it except wonder what a pathetic life you have."

Now, that was a bigger blow to almost everyone who had once doubted her.

"Call me cruel, wicked, cold, anything you want. But the truth won’t change. I was a Lawrence, I am a Lawrence, and I will be a Lawrence."

Kyrell smiled to himself when he saw how dumbstruck the audience was. He himself was baffled by her, only the reason was different. Her assertiveness and domineering attitude enthralled him to no bounds and his lips arched up into a soft smile.

Xavier, who was standing diagonally behind him, noticed his small action and subconsciously rolled his eyes. ’There he goes again. Lover boy is a goner in front of Miss Lawrence.’

"So, give me a break and stop showing the world how miserable you all are." Sienna didn’t know what was happening with the people beside her. Her focus was all on the people in the front.

"Otherwise, my lawyers won’t mind looking for you."

The first matter had been dealt with. Now, it was time for the next.

"I would like to announce that the Lawrence Group has withdrawn all investments from the Nelson company. We’ll no longer be associated with them or any projects they are involved in now, or in the future."

Until then, the Nelson company’s downfall was known to only a few people. With Sienna severing ties publicly, everyone knew about it now.

"Now, for the last announcement. The Lawrence Group will be holding its first Annual Innovation Summit. Anyone with good business ideas and in need of investments can look for more details on our company website. They’ll be available starting April 25."

Not just the reporters, but even the Lawrence Group employees who were watching the press conference at their desks were stunned. What Annual Innovation Summit? Why did they not know about it? When was this decision made?

Sienna was done with her announcements. So, she left it for the reporters to take over and ask her questions.

At first, the reporters hesitated. The way their fellow reporter had been carried out of the auditorium like a chick was vivid in their minds. They weren’t willing to risk getting humiliated, their job, and their channels facing a ban just for some scoop.

Sienna waited for a few seconds. But when nobody spoke, she stood up to leave. "It looks like there are no questions. Very well, thank you all..."

"Miss Lawrence, I have a question." A voice interrupted her and Sienna turned to the woman who had raised her hand.

Nodding at her to ask her question, Sienna waited.

"Miss Lawrence, has there been any progress in the case?" the woman asked, the very question that most reporters in the auditorium had in mind. "Have the police found any leads?"

"I’m sorry I can’t give you much information right now," Sienna said with a stoic face. "But it’s certain that the perpetrators will be in prison soon."

Her words didn’t give away anything. Neither did she say there was a lead nor did she give away how incapable the police had been at finding anything. So, her vague reply only served to mislead everyone.

"Miss Lawrence, there has been some instability among the shareholders, and some of them want you to resign. Would mind telling us about it?" Another jumped in when he saw the opportunity.

Sienna narrowed her eyes at him and didn’t speak for some time and the reporter almost had a heart attack. Was he going to be thrown out as well? Would his channel be banned too?

Just when everyone thought the security team would throw him out too, Sienna replied.

"The sudden change in management has brought some uncertainties. But it’s not something that can’t be resolved. Look forward to our future projects. You’ll be in for a surprise," Sienna said with a smile. "Any other question?"

This time, no one said anything and she nodded at them. "Very well. Thank you everyone for attending the press conference. Have a good day!"

With that, she left with the guards, leaving the reporters to pack up.

After returning to her office, she called Esme, Simon, and Edward for a meeting.

Sienna glanced at Amy, Xavier, Kyle, and Isaac and they they understood at once what was expected of them. Nodding at her, they left the office and resumed their mission to spread rumors about Sienna and Kyrell.

With everything running smoothly, Sienna focused on the three silent people.

"Edward, how is the matter regarding the Production House coming along?"

"Miss Lawrence, as you ordered, I went under disguise to the Production House and quite a few people resigned once they found out that the management has been changed."

"Even when Mr. Cowell revealed that he’d still be working as an advisor?"

"Yes, Miss Lawrence."

"Very well. Since they made their choice, there’s no need to entertain them anymore. As for the other employees, sign a new contract with them once Nevian Whitmore accepts the lead role," Sienna ordered, making a mental note to speak to Jason later.

"Yes, Miss Lawrence."

"Mr. Brown, I presume you are adjusting to your new position as the COO." Sienna clasped her fingers and smiled at the man sitting directly in front of her.

"I am, Miss Lawrence. I assure you you’ll not regret trusting me."

"Oh, I have no worries when it comes to anyone among you three," Sienna said in all honesty. "You’re some of the few people I trust."

"Thank you, Miss Lawrence," the three people said in unison, touched by her words.

Her trusting them meant a lot, considering everything she had been through and was going through. In her situation, they didn’t mind if she didn’t trust them. Now that she did, their loyalty was stronger than ever.

"Now, let’s talk about the Annual Innovation Summit."

"Yes, Miss Lawrence."

"Esme, select twelve members across different teams and give me their details. They don’t necessarily have to be someone in a senior position. Find someone who has worked for the Lawrence Group for more than three years."

"Yes, Miss Lawrence. But can I ask why?"

"I’ll be creating a new team with them. They’ll be exclusively handling the Innovation Summit."

"But..."

"I have reasons, Esme," Sienna asserted and Esme swallowed her doubts instantly.

"I understand, Miss Lawrence."

"I’ll be meeting someone today and if everything works well, he might be our next CFO," Sienna informed them, prepping them up for what was about to come.

"Also, be wary of Herbert from now onwards. Since my decision will end his dreams, he might do something to sabotage the company."

Simon frowned when he heard about Herbert. A memory from a few months ago surfaced in his mind and his expression turned serious at once.

His change in expression was so drastic that Sienna noticed it immediately. "Do you have something to say, Mr. Brown?"

"Miss Lawrence, I’m not sure if I’m overthinking or it’s a misunderstanding," Simon started, feeling his heart tremble when he thought of the possibility.

"Go ahead, Mr. Brown."

"A few months ago, I saw Herbert at a hotel. He was having dinner with a few top executives of our rival company, TM Corporation."

Sienna’s gaze narrowed coldly. "Are you sure about it, Mr. Brown?"

"Absolutely. I thought it was weird that he met not one but four to five top executives from TM."

"Did you inform Dad about it?"

"I did. But Sir didn’t react much and even asked me to stay clear of this matter for it could be risky."

"Well, that took a strange direction. Why would Dad disregard such an important matter?" Sienna mused, unable to comprehend if Simon was telling the truth or if it was all a bluff.

"Yes, Miss Lawrence. Let me show you the messages."

Simon didn’t dawdle and opened his chat with Sienna’s father. Scrolling past the messages, he quickly found the picture he had captured of Herbert with the executives.

"Here, Miss Lawrence."

Sienna stared at the picture silently. She recognized all the people. She had met them at various events and gatherings.

What shocked her was the message her father had sent after Simon intimated about Herbert.

Ignore and forget everything you saw tonight. The matter is risky and could be dangerous to your life.

I’ll handle this matter myself.

Also, don’t tell anyone else about it.
