Chapter 45: Cheetah Corps on duty - Part 1

When Kyrell arrived downstairs after some time, he noticed his team had already eaten breakfast and the dining table had been wiped clean. Surprised, he glanced at Xavier who was beaming at him, his eyes flashing with a teasing glint.

Quirking his brows, Xavier asked him silently, waiting for updates. But all he got in return was his friend’s cold shoulder. Kyrell didn’t even look at him, let alone curb his curiosity.

’What kind of a friend do I have?’ Xavier wondered, blaming the stars for sending someone like Kyrell as his friend. ’He didn’t fucking thank me for giving him advice and now, he isn’t replying to me.’

"Mr. Winchester, I..." Frank’s lips twitched when he saw Kyrell and he subconsciously glanced at Xavier who was pushing his sleeves to his elbows as if he was preparing himself for a fight.

"I apologize I forgot to order your breakfast," Frank said, taking all the blame on himself.

"Don’t worry, Frank. I already ate." Kyrell assured with a smile.

"Huh?" Frank’s expression morphed in confusion and he couldn’t quite comprehend what was happening.

"See, I told you that Kyrell wouldn’t need those sandwiches," Xavier intervened, saving his friend from some explanation. "By the way, I noticed that there is just one car. How are we going to commute to work?" he asked, changing the topic, and Frank’s attention was instantly diverted.

"All the vehicles are at the estate," he replied, wondering what Sienna’s plan was. "We’ll have to trouble you today."

"No worries. No worries," Xavier said bigheartedly and Kyrell rolled his eyes when he saw his friend’s antics.

Seriously, did he have to be so dramatic?

"Have you arranged the team for today?" Kyrell asked, wishing for his friend to have already sorted out the matter.

"Yes. It’s Amy, Isaac, Kyle, and me today."

Kyrell felt a headache creeping in already when he realized that there wasn’t one but two troublemakers in the team. Was Xavier not enough that Isaac too had decided to join in the fun?

Xavier’s smile widened when he saw his friend’s expression. He knew what exactly the man was thinking.

"Well, get ready then. We’ll be leaving soon."

"Surely."

Adhering to the instructions everyone was ready by the time Sienna went down after changing her clothes. Being a woman of discipline, she hated tardiness. Smiling to herself, she nodded at Kyrell lightly, indicating her appreciation to him.

"I’ll have to trouble you to take a cab to the estate. We have only one vehicle here," Sienna said apologetically. If she had known she’d be getting new security, she’d have made arrangements beforehand.

"No worries, Miss Lawrence. Just give us the money for the cab and we’re good to go," Isaac said, winking at her cheekily and Sienna didn’t know if she should laugh or cry. Why were the people in the Cheetah Corps so unhinged?

But she wasn’t repulsed by any of them. Instead, she only found them entertaining.

Kyrell too was rendered speechless and for a moment, he started doubting his decision of asking his men to protect Sienna. Did he do a good job or did he end up creating a mess?

He was just about to berate Isaac when he noticed the faint smile lingering on Sienna’s lips. The woman who had been crying in her sleep the previous night was smiling. Albeit obscure, he still saw it and he swallowed his rebukes.

At least, Xavier and Isaac had been of some use. They managed to make Sienna smile which he hadn’t been able to. Although he was disheartened that it wasn’t he who made her smile, he was still happy for her.

Sienna, Kyrell, and Amy took the car while Xavier, Isaac, Kyle, and Frank followed them in a cab, leaving the others to guard the villa.

"I hope Frank doesn’t lose his mind because of the two jokers," Kyrell mumbled to himself and glanced at Amy who stifled a laugh hearing his words.

Sienna didn’t hear a word he had said and kept working on her laptop, finishing the work she had failed to complete the previous night.

A comforting silence lingered in the car and nobody spoke a word. Kyrell’s driving was very smooth and Sienna wasn’t disturbed even once until her phone started vibrating, breaking her concentration.

Sienna’s brows knitted together when she saw an unfamiliar number. Glancing at Kyrell who was glancing at her through the rearview mirror, she answered the call.

"Hello?" Sienna held her breath, waiting for the other person.

"Hello, Sienna. What do you think you’re doing?" The voice on the other side snarled and Sienna held her phone away from her ear, protecting her eardrums.

Sienna had a faint inkling as to who was calling her. But she didn’t entertain his impertinence and ended his call in the blink. Without giving much thought, she blocked the number and shook her head.

"Everything alright, Miss Lawrence?" Kyrell asked when he noticed her vexed expression.

"Yeah. Rupert is harassing me now that his butt is on fire."

While Kyrell didn’t show any reaction, Amy was surprised to see how frank Sienna was.

"Did he say something?" Kyrell’s grip on the steering wheel tightened, his eyes blazing with fire.

"He was barking something nonsense. So, I ended the call." Sienna was nonchalant and focused on her work again.

Compared to the previous night, it took them more time to reach the estate due to the traffic. By then, Sienna had handled most of the work she had on her agenda.

Amy’s eyes widened in astonishment when she saw the luxurious estate. Surrounded by greenery on all sides and far away from the public eye, it looked like a magnificent hotel amidst the forest.

Not just Amy, even Isaac, Kyle, and Xavier who arrived barely a few minutes were astounded to see the estate. But they controlled their expressions as they followed Sienna inside.

The entire estate had been sealed and the dead bodies were nowhere in sight. However, the blood marks were still evident, showing that whatever happened the previous night wasn’t just a nightmare but the truth.

Sienna didn’t directly go inside. Instead, she waited for the policeman in charge to inform Officer Jenkins of her arrival.

"Miss Lawrence," Officer Jenkins greeted her with a bleak smile. In just one night, he had become haggard. With his red eyes and dull face, he looked tired as if he was close to collapsing.

Sienna felt bad for him. Sure, she didn’t trust him. But she couldn’t stop herself from pitying him. He was trying his best to solve the case.

"Officer Jenkins, I’m here to pick a few things. May I?"

"Sure, Miss Lawrence."

Frank already knew what Sienna wanted to take away with her. So, he started sorting them while Sienna focused on all the important documents.

It took them no more than twenty minutes to sort everything.

Meanwhile, Kyrell waited in the living room, running his eyes around and observing the place keenly. Against the white walls, the red streaks looked ghastly and he wondered if Sienna would ever be able to sleep well in the estate henceforth.

"The place looks so gruesome," Xavier commented, studying the living room seriously. His jovial mood vanished the moment he saw the blood stains everywhere.

"It sure does," Isaac agreed, feeling bad for the woman who was making her way towards them. Not only had she lost her family, she now even had to leave her estate, the very place which held memories of her family, because of the bloodbath. He silently hoped for her to remain strong and overcome the storm that was wrecking her life.

"You’ve worked hard, Officer Jenkins," Sienna acknowledged the man’s work once she was done picking up everything she wanted. "Thank you."

The policeman was shocked and he went blank for a moment. "I’m doing my duty, Miss Lawrence. Hopefully, I catch the culprits soon."

"Hopefully." Sienna nodded and departed from the place.

"I’m not sure how many cars you might need," Frank said once they were outside. "The garage is over there."

Kyrell noticed that he was pointing in a different direction than the garage he had been to the previous night.

’Must be the Lawrence family’s private garage,’ he thought recalling the various models of luxury cars he had seen there.

Kyle and Isaac chose a car while Amy and Xavier took another, deciding two vehicles were enough for them.

"Miss, I’ll see you in the evening," Frank said once he was done shifting everything they had picked up from the estate to the boot of his car.

Sienna nodded and Frank drove away first.

"To the company, Miss Lawrence?" Kyrell asked as he started the car and drove out of the estate. Through the side mirrors, he noticed that the two cars were following them closely.

"Yes."

Sienna had barely finished when her phone rang again. Another unknown number.

Rolling her eyes, she ended the call. But the caller was persistent. Eventually, fed up with being harassed, she answered the call, only to hear a woman’s shrill scream.

"Sienna, who do you think you are? You are just an adopted daughter. How dare you..."

Sienna sneered lightly and ended the call again before blocking the number.

"The Nelson family still hasn’t learned their lesson," Sienna remarked, twirling her phone with her fingers.

"They’ve been forced into a corner. They’re desperate to save themselves," Kyrell stated the obvious.

"I wouldn’t have bothered with them if they didn’t harass them time and again. They should have thought about it before acting recklessly."

"True that. Miss Lawrence, you have a press conference in the afternoon. You should be careful," Kyrell reminded her. The reporters could become deranged in their eagerness to find the truth.

"I remember. I’ll be careful," Sienna muttered, lowering her eyes. "Also, I have you. I have nothing to worry about."

Kyrell’s heart thumped madly when he heard her words. For a moment, he wondered if she even realized what she had just said. But when he noticed her working again, he sighed softly and shook his head.

How could she say something so lovely and heart-pounding and still remain calm?
