Accidentally Yours, Mr. Stranger-Chapter 39: In each other’s arms
Chapter 39: In each other’s arms
Kyrell got to work the moment he was inside his room. There was no room for delay. The more he wasted time, the more dangerous it’d be for Sienna. The murderers were relentless and it seemed they wouldn’t be stopping until they killed her, even if it meant they had to eliminate other people to get to her.
Rubbing his forehead in dismay, he called his good old friend and teammate.
"Ky, I thought you wouldn’t ever call us. Why is the wind blowing in a different direction today?" the man on the other side teased the moment the call connected and Kyrell rolled his eyes, wondering how his friend was this energetic at this time of the night.
"Xavier, cut it, will you? I called you for something important," Kyrell didn’t entertain his joke this time and jumped to the important matter without beating around the bush. freeweɓnøvel.com
Sensing the seriousness in his friend’s tone, Xavier stopped being mischievous and became serious as well. "Kyrell, what’s wrong? Why do you sound so stressed? Is everything alright over there?"
"No, Xav. Nothing is alright here," Kyrell said, his shoulders dropping his defeat. He had expected the situation to be grave and dangerous. But he had never expected it to be this dreadful.
Whoever wanted Sienna dead was a lunatic. Otherwise, why would his men kill people ruthlessly without consideration for the law?
"Miss Lawrence is being attacked almost daily and the attackers don’t care about the law," Kyrell informed, giving a brief description to his friend about how the situation had been since he met Sienna.
"What the fuck! Who is that bastard who dares to be unlawful?" Xavier was pissed. His tone turned ruthless and murderous when he realized how they were killing people as if they were counting coins.
"A man who is powerful and twisted enough to not care about the law," Kyrell remarked, tugging at his tie.
"How is Miss Lawrence now? Is she fine?"
Kyrell smiled bleakly when he thought of the woman who seemed to have lost her soul completely. She hadn’t had a moment of peace since her family died. Either the people were trying to kill or they tried to tarnish her reputation and harm her in other ways. She was distressed and crumbling slowly.
"I don’t know what to say. She’s holding on for now. But I don’t think she can hold on for long."
"It ain’t surprising. Considering all that she’s going through, it’d be a miracle if she can even sleep for a few hours without having nightmares," Xavier added, feeling bad for the woman. "Why did you call me by the way?"
"Xav, Miss Lawrence has dismissed all her servants and guards. There’s no one but her butler and me now."
"How many?" Xavier asked, understanding what his friend was indicating.
"Seven, no less."
"When?"
"Tomorrow morning. I’ll text you the address."
"I’m on it."
Although Kyrell led the Cheetah Corps, it was divided into multiple factions, each having a leader of its own and Xavier was one of them. His troop consisted of eight people and were some of the best fighters in the world. With them around, nothing would ever happen to Sienna or anyone she loved.
"By the way..." Xavier started and hesitated for a moment. "Have you spoken to A after you started working for Miss Lawrence?"
Kyrell sighed heavily and sat on the bed. Even if he felt tired, his body was upright and commanding.
"No. I don’t know how to tell him about this. Has he returned?"
"No. He is still in Washington. It’ll take him some time for his mission to end."
Kyrell rubbed his eyes, feeling a headache creeping in slowly. He was utterly drained. He was up for more than twenty hours and his brain was showing signs of fatigue. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to sleep. It was as if the moment he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, something terrible would happen to Sienna.
"Why are you awake till now, Xav?" Kyrell asked, glancing at the time. It was hitting 2. What an ungodly time to be awake!
"Hey, I couldn’t sleep alright and was watching a movie."
"Yeah, right." Kyrell scoffed, not believing his words. But he didn’t tease him anymore, deciding to end the call and rest for the day. "I’ll see you tomorrow."
"Yeah. See ya."
Feeling thirsty, Kyrell looked around for a bottle of water. But there wasn’t any. Removing his jacket and tie, he rubbed his forehead again as he walked out of his room towards the kitchen.
At first, he hadn’t noticed anything. It was only when he was returning to his room that he saw the petite figure curled up on the couch.
Kyrell frowned and approached Sienna who was deep asleep on the couch. Her feet were exposed and she was shivering as she huddled some more, seeking warmth from her own body.
’What is she doing here?’ he wondered and squatted before her.
"Miss Lawrence," he called her gently. But there was no response. "Miss Lawrence, can you hear me?"
Again, no response. Sienna was deep asleep.
Sighing to himself, he scooped her in his arms, holding her close to his chest, giving her his warmth. Kyrell noticed only then how weightless she was. He had already felt it to be odd when he had picked her up in her office. Sienna seemed to have lost a lot of weight compared to the day of her accident. The difference was impossible to ignore.
"Is she even eating properly?" he mumbled as he climbed the stairs. "Miss Lawrence, how will you survive if you disregard your health?" He looked at the sleeping woman in his arms, displeased by her actions. Yet, his eyes were soft and gentle as he stared at the exquisite face, feeling small ripples erupt in his heart.
Kyrell was careful. He didn’t make any sound as he entered her room and placed her on the bed as gently as possible. Brushing away the strands of her hair that had fallen over her face, he was about to leave when he heard Sienna whimpering.
Immediately, he turned around, only to find the woman shuddering as tears leaked out of her eyes. She was mumbling something as she fidgeted in her sleep.
"Miss Lawrence." He sat beside her and attempted to wake her up. But there was no response from her. It was as if Sienna was stuck in her nightmare, with no way to escape.
"No, no, no." Sienna cried, shaking her head fervently. "Please don’t leave me. Please."
Kyrell heard her clearly this time and realized what she was dreaming about. It had to be about her family. Feeling her shiver again, he pulled her against him and rubbed her back to console her.
"Miss Lawrence, please calm down. I’m right here. Nothing will happen to you."
Kyrell’s words had no effect on her. Sienna kept mumbling and crying as she continued to shake her head.
Helpless, he scooted closer to her until their bodies were pressed against each other. Sienna was in his embrace and he felt her soft curves distinctly. Yet, all his focus was on making her calm down.
"Sienna, I’m here. Nothing will ever happen to you. I promise." He kept repeating his words, hoping for her to calm down and stop crying and eventually, she did after some time.
Kyrell waited for a few minutes. When Sienna didn’t cry or move anymore, he tried to extricate himself from her hold. But it was impossible to do so.
Sienna was holding onto him for her dear life. It was as if he was the only source of warmth in her life. If he were to leave, there would be no warmth at all.
Kyrell attempted a few times more. But every time he moved away from her, Sienna would move closer, clinging to him even more.
Helpless, he finally stopped when he realized that Sienna wouldn’t allow him to leave. Having no choice, he lay beside her and stared at the ceiling.
"Miss Lawrence, I hope the situation becomes better soon. You need to stay strong until then," he muttered, glancing at the woman in his arms. An inexplicable emotion passed through his heart and he pulled the duvet over her, covering both of them.
Kyrell didn’t know how long he was awake. Eventually, he couldn’t hold it anymore and drifted off to sleep with Sienna in his arms.
