Accidentally Yours, Mr. Stranger-Chapter 32: Familiar name
Chapter 32: Familiar name
The police station was surrounded by reporters waiting for Sienna to arrive. They kept recording the situation and broadcasting the events live, fearing they would miss anything.
The Lawrence family’s mishap was the biggest tragedy that shook the entire nation. Almost everyone was glued to the TV, waiting to see how things would turn out.
While a lot of people didn’t believe that Sienna had a hand in her family’s untimely demise, there were still some who had been swayed by the rumors. Even without any evidence, she was a sinner. They were just waiting for the police to put her behind bars.
Sienna’s smiled faintly, her eyes filled with sarcasm. How pathetic her life had become in just a few days! Everyone was out to get her without giving her a chance to breathe. They just wanted to destroy her by hook or by crook.
A cold, killing intent passed through her brown eyes. If they had let her live her life in peace, she would’ve remained quiet and low. Since they provoked her, she was willing to fight the battle - a battle in which the outcome was fixed. She’d destroy everyone waiting to ruin her even if she had to annihilate herself in the process.
Kyrell’s expression and thoughts were no different than hers. Since the people had provoked Sienna time and again, she shouldn’t be blamed for retaliating.
Taking a deep breath, Sienna stepped out of the car first, nodding at Kyrell who held the door open for her.
When the reporters saw her, they went into a state of frenzy. But Kyrell was quick to shield her, and Officer Jenkins had made prior arrangements for her to be safely escorted inside. Her guards formed a wall around her, pushing anyone who tried to force through and get to Sienna.
The reporters didn’t even have the opportunity to get close to her. She was protected through and through, making it impossible for them to interrogate her.
Sienna didn’t bother with any of them and entered the police station under Kyrell’s protection. The man stood before her like a sturdy wall, not allowing any danger to befall her. He didn’t even let anyone touch her, escorting her inside safely.
Sienna now understood why her brother had looked for Kyrell. The man was impeccable at his job and she was glad that she had someone like him protecting her.
Once inside the police station, Sienna walked ahead and Kyrell remained beside her, keeping close vigilance. He didn’t let his guard down this time. They were at the police station. Sure. But except for Officer Jenkins, he didn’t trust anyone.
"Miss Lawrence," Officer Jenkins sighed in relief when he saw Sienna enter unscathed. He knew how rowdy the reporters would be. So, he had already made arrangements.
"Officer Jenkins." Sienna nodded at him, not making much conversation until necessary.
The policeman noticed that she was more distant than before. Her face radiated her fury and her expression practically screamed, ’Anyone who approaches me will be burned to death.’
Sienna was already a scary woman when she remained indifferent. Now, with her showing her wrath of God, it was akin to a bloody battle, one which he daren’t even imagine.
"Shall we begin?" Sienna asked, noticing her attorney seated in the interrogation room?"
"Yes, Miss Lawrence. Please follow me." The policeman was extremely polite to her. Even though there was a possibility that she was the mastermind behind the murders, he didn’t believe it.
Sienna might be cold and unapproachable. But that didn’t mean she was evil and selfish. His heart refused to believe that she would ever kill a person, let alone her family who had raised her to who she was now.
Kyrell wasn’t allowed inside the interrogation cell. So, he remained outside while Sienna followed Officer Jenkins.
Nodding at her attorney, who stood up on seeing her enter, Sienna took her seat as directed by the policeman.
"Officer Jenkins, you’ve already met my attorney, Niall Statham. He’ll be representing me," Sienna declared, giving the man behind her a silent glance.
"I understand, Miss Lawrence."
Officer Jenkins took one of the chairs while the other was taken by another policeman Sienna didn’t recognize. Her eyes lowered to the man’s badge and she made a note of his name.
Andy Cahill.
Cahill? Sienna’s brows knotted into a frown when she read a familiar name. She knew someone with the same surname. But she couldn’t recall the face or the full name.
"Miss Lawrence, this is Officer Cahill. He’ll be assisting me in the interrogation," Officer Jenkins notified. "Also, our conversation will be recorded."
"I understand, Officer."
"Shall we begin?"
Once Sienna nodded, the policeman’s temperament changed. He became the no-nonsense officer his subordinates knew him to be. His expression didn’t give away anything. He was solemn and unflappable as he led the interrogation.
Sienna remained unfazed. She had seen so much and experienced more than anyone could imagine in the last few days that nothing affected her. Even Officer Jenkin’s small glance of scrutiny didn’t perturb her.
"Miss Lawrence, where were you on the night your family was murdered?" the policeman began with his first question.
"I was in Sacramento," Sienna replied to the point.
"May we know the reason?"
"I had a conference to attend."
"What conference?"
"Global Innovation Summit. I was invited as a guest."
"Do you have an alibi?"
"Yes, I do. You can check with the organizers. I was at the conference the entire night"
"What did you do after the conference ended?"
"I returned to my room to rest for the night."
"And you returned to San Fransisco the next morning?" His words came out more like a question and Sienna nodded.
Her attorney produced her travel itinerary and the two policemen went through it before returning to interrogating her.
"Miss Lawrence, don’t you think it quite coincidental that you happen to have a conference to attend on the day your family was murdered?" the officer who had been silent all along asked suddenly, gaining everyone’s eyes on him.
Sienna didn’t react. Instead, she observed him for a second or two before concluding her thoughts about him.
While Sienna didn’t say anything, her lawyer jumped to defend her immediately.
"Miss Lawrence attends the conference every year. She is a sponsor and VIP guest," Niall said, looking at Andy strangely.
"And it happens to take place on the same day your sister was to be awarded?" Andy shot back.
"I suggest you do your homework, Officer Cahill." Niall didn’t give up either and he looked at the policeman strangely. "The Global Innovation Summit takes place every year on the second Sunday in August."
Andy went silent immediately, not at all embarrassed to have been rebuked.
"Pardon me for asking this, Miss Lawrence," he continued, ignoring Officer Jenkin’s warning gaze. "Does your family have any enemies?"
Sienna tilted her head and thought about it genuinely. Her family sure had made enemies over time. In the cutthroat world where power and money were everything, her family had no doubt offended a lot of people. But she couldn’t quite decide who was seeking revenge on them now.
"I’d be lying if I said no. My family is into business and we might have made some enemies."
"In that case, who do you think would benefit the most if something were to happen to your family?"
Sienna immediately understood where the interrogation was leading towards.
Even Kyrell who had been a mere spectator scowled when he realized what Andy was up to.
"I’m not sure." Sienna continued to entertain the man, not showing anything on her face. "It could be anyone."
"Well, isn’t it astonishing that the person who benefits the most after your family is gone is you, Miss Lawrence?" Andy said the words Sienna had expected from him. "What do you have to say now?"
