Chapter 33: Retaliation

Sienna tapped her fingers a few times on the desk. Nobody knew what was running in her mind, not even Kyrell. She was unreadable.

Yet, Kyrell didn’t miss the small smirk that had tugged at her lips. Although it had been fleeting, he saw it and his heart skipped a beat.

It wasn’t a mere smile. There was something odd in the way Sienna was looking at Andy. Her gaze wasn’t normal, it wasn’t right. It was as if she had decided upon something sinister and dark, contradicting her character.

Kyrell’s heart shook when he thought of a possibility and his eyes constricted. Clenching his fists tight, he held his breath as he focused on the woman who seemed to be prepared to butcher her enemies to pieces.

"In a way, you’re right," Sienna acknowledged, her fingers finally stopping the tapping. "If something were to happen to my family, I’ll be the first to benefit."

Andy was surprised. He hadn’t expected Sienna to agree to his words and even more so when everything she said in the interrogation room could be used against her in court.

"But what would I gain if I’m being targeted as well?" she asked, glancing at Officer Jenkins who sat frozen in his spot.

"I may have inherited everything that my family owned. I’m the sole heir to the Lawrence assets," Sienna enunciated, giving Andy a look he couldn’t decipher.

"But I have also attracted danger to myself. Being the sole survivor in my family now, I have been attacked once, followed twice, maybe more. Everyone around me wants me dead, plotting ways to destroy me, from my company’s shareholders to my private security. I cannot trust anyone in this world. Heck, I don’t have anyone in this world."

Sienna’s tone turned aggressive in the end and she glared at Andy who, for a moment, didn’t know how to react.

"If you call this a benefit, I guess I did benefit a lot. After all, I’m now being targeted by everyone." Sienna tilted her head and smiled suddenly and that smile creeped the hell out of Andy.

"Anything else?" Satisfied that the threat had been conveyed, Sienna turned to Officer Jenkins who gawked at her as if she was a devil. Leaning back, she crossed her legs and waited for the two men to snap out of their stupor.

"Yes, Miss Lawrence. I have one last question to ask. How was your family’s relationship with your grandfather’s sister and her family?" Officer Jenkins cleared his throat and resumed the interrogation once he came out of his reverie.

"We aren’t that close. My grandfather cut ties with his sister long ago. There were no familial ties. But, yes. We did have business connections," Sienna explained and the man nodded.

"We’re done, Miss Lawrence."

Sienna nodded and glanced at Niall who took over immediately.

"Officer Jenkins, would you mind telling me on what basis the complaint was registered?" Niall asked, while Sienna sat back and stared at Andy who fidgetted in his spot uneasily.

"That..." Officer Jenkins glanced at Andy who had his head lowered.

"You should have found some evidence to have registered the complaint. Would you mind shedding some light on it? Or do I sense something shady here?" Niall continued, not giving the two men any opportunity to breathe.

Officer Jenkins sighed and shook his head. "Officer Cahill, you’re on it on your own. I won’t save you. He had long realized something was wrong with Andy. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have targeted Sienna mindlessly."

"Officer Jenkins?" Andy was flabbergasted and he looked at the man beside him, pleading with him to help him.

"You should have thought about it when you tried to target Miss Lawrence," Officer Jenkins spat in anger. "It’s one thing to have summoned Miss Lawrence for an interrogation. It’s completely a different matter to have filed a false report. It’s a crime."

"I was actually wondering if I should file a complaint as well," Sienna said all of a sudden, and Andy’s head snapped to her instantly, his eyes narrowing in frustration.

"I want to file a complaint against Andy Cahill." Sienna didn’t even bother to speak to the man with respect. He didn’t deserve it.

"Miss Lawrence?" Officer Jenkins was puzzled. He couldn’t perceive what she was up to.

"I suspect him to have murdered my family."

"Miss Lawrence, watch your words." Andy stood up in agitation and warned her, his voice rising an octave.

"I thought we were playing a game here - filing false reports and accusing people of crimes they didn’t commit. Am I not allowed to give it a try?" Sienna’s tone was filled with ridicule.

While the two policemen were embarrassed, Kyrell’s lips curled up in amusement.

Sienna was clever and capable. She was a strategist who planned her attacks well. It was impossible for foolish men like Andy to corner her.

Kyrell’s smile immediately faltered when he saw Andy again. The false complaint was too weak of an attack on Sienna. There was no evidence, actual or fabricated. What would anyone get out of pulling such a foolish stunt on Sienna?

Sienna stood up forcing the three men to stand up as well. The power difference in the room was impossible to ignore. Her aura was so strong that she easily suppressed the three men.

"Mr. Statham, I want to sue Andy Cahill for tarnishing my reputation, giving me mental stress, and filing a false report against me."

Andy’s eyes widened in horror. His entire body trembled as if he was experiencing Antarctica’s freezing night. He broke into a cold sweat instantly while his face lost all color.

"Already done, Miss Lawrence. Andy Cahill will receive the lawsuit notice soon." Niall pushed his spectacles up and gave Andy a gloating look. Who asked him to plot against Sienna Lawrence? The woman wasn’t a weakling. She was a valiant queen. She wouldn’t let go of anyone who dared to harm her.

"Great. Ensure that he loses his job. There is no need for people like him to work in public services."

With that, Sienna was the first to leave the interrogation room with Niall in tow. This time, she completely ignored Kyrell as she marched towards the entrance of the police station.

"Officer Cahill, you’re suspended from duty. You are charged with the crime of filing a false report," Officer Jenkins declared and picked up the files before he too left the interrogation room, leaving Andy all alone.

Andy’s mind went blank. He stared at the wall absent-mindedly as he plopped heavily on the chair. At that moment, he had only one thought in mind. He was done for. He was utterly done for.

Not only was his job in jeopardy, but he had also incurred Sienna’s wrath on himself. His life was completely over.

Pulling out his phone, he typed a quick text.

’Our plan backfired. I’m in deep trouble because of you.’

However, his message didn’t go through. His number had been blocked. He tried again, only to meet the same result and his heart picked up speed in worry.

Things were getting out of hand and he had to do something quickly. But before he could dwell more on it, two police officers entered the room and confiscated all his belongings, detaining him immediately.
