"Those who have attended my class would know that my classes last seven days in a row. As for when the next seven-day cycle will start, wait for the notification. If anyone has an issue with this arrangement, you’re still in time to opt out and choose another teacher’s class instead. If no one wants to drop out, then we’ll start the lesson." Vivian sat sternly in the elevated seat at the front, her ever-present magical staff leaning against the podium. "This year, I’ll be teaching about crystal cutting and synthesis. As usual, there’s a three-minute question time before we begin. Speak up if you have any questions."
"Teacher Vivian, I have a question." A modestly dressed lad with a face full of acne was the first to stand. "Why isn’t your bodyguard sister here today?"
"What are you planning?" Vivian stared at the chubby boy with frosty eyes, head lowered. "I’m sure you’re disappointed, but we’ve swapped today, the bodyguard’s a man."
"Oh, it’s Hubert’s turn." The boy gave a heartbroken wail with his hand clutching his chest, and slumped limply back into his chair. "Who will save my shattered soul?"
"Don’t worry, I remember you, Cuba right?" Vivian pointed at the boy. "We’ll see each other at the exam."
"I was wrong, teacher, please forgive me." With his forehead resting on the desk, the boy adopted a posture of begging for mercy. "Please, spare me your wrath."
"Report to the teacher, I also have a question." A girl elegantly dressed and heavily made-up was the second to stand. "I wanted to ask, your new male bodyguard..."
"You don’t need to get to know him." Vivian waved her hand to interrupt, clearly unamused.
"No, no, no, teacher, it’s not that I want to get to know him." The girl waved her hands, emphasizing her words. "I was just wondering, by any chance, is your bodyguard the creepy man outside the window that’s drooling all over it and checking out every girl’s thighs with perverted eyes?"
"Hehe, hehe, hehe," Vivian mumbled under her breath, her lips twitching at the corner while her neck slowly turned towards the direction the girl was pointing. Her staff, already held tightly in her hand, pointed at the window. "Dear Mr. Pannis, do you prefer walking in here neatly, taking a seat at the back, or do you need my help to launch you from the sixth floor so you can experience the pleasure of flying?"
With a swoosh, Pannis pushed the window open and jumped in, taking a vacant seat at the back of the classroom. His eyes focused strictly on the front as if the whole scene just now had never happened.
"If there are no further serious questions, then let’s start the lesson." Vivian cleared her throat, "I’ll skip the basics, such as what crystals are, how to use them, and so on. If you don’t even know those, go back to the beginner class and repeat the year."
"Let’s cut to the chase. One thing you all must understand very clearly is that Crystal Synthesis is a high-risk discipline. It poses an enormous hazard, not only to your assets but also to your life. Cutting crystals mainly poses monetary risk, while Crystal Synthesis primarily threatens your life. So, for those planning to major in the School of Crystal Energy, be absolutely clear about this risk."
"As the name suggests, this discipline includes crystal cutting and crystal synthesis. To master these two areas, one needs to delve into the mysteries within the crystals. In simpler terms, the interior of a crystal consists of an unstable energy system, the higher the energy it encapsulates, the stronger the instability. Therefore, high-energy crystals are likelier to radiate energy, and this dissipation is irreversible. If you have a crystal worth two thousand Taels, congratulations, you’re in possession of over eighty thousand gold coins’ worth of fortune. However, the slightest knock, perhaps just a mild increase in temperature, and your eighty thousand gold coins may vanish entirely."
"Some of you may have noticed, I mentioned a two thousand Tael crystal. Why not three thousand but two? That’s because two thousand is the point of energy saturation for naturally-formed crystals. Any natural crystal that exceeds two thousand Taels of energy will immediately start dissipating, no exception. So, any crystal exceeding two thousand Taels of energy is man-made, and this process of crystal making is what we’re going to learn next in Crystal Synthesis Science."
"Who can tell me, if I want to synthesize a four thousand Tael crystal, how should I go about it?" Vivian asked, looking at her captivated students.
"We could synthesize two two-thousand Tael crystals." One student, quicker off the mark, answered.
"Well now." Vivian pointed at the answering student, "You’ve played with building blocks in your childhood, haven’t you? Suppose I gave you four thousand blocks to assemble a castle, would it be easier to divide the blocks into two groups of two thousand each, build two sections, then stack them up, or to piece it together block by block?"
The student who answered fell silent and dropped his gaze.
"Your answer isn’t wrong in theory. During the synthesis of crystals, each time you add a new crystal, regardless of the Tael, even with just one Tael, it would significantly reduce the target crystal’s stability. Thus, the higher the energy of the additional crystal during synthesis, the better. However, such crystals tend to be extremely unstable. Just as we mentioned with building blocks, it becomes more difficult to synthesize into the target crystal. Thus, choosing the energy value of the added crystal is a delicate issue. This is a life and death matter. If a failure occurs during the synthesis process, it could not only lead to the dissipation of energy and the loss of the two crystals, but also cause a significant explosion. Above two thousand Taels, a Gold Rank mage would certainly die. Above four thousand Taels, even a Legendary Rank mage would die for sure. The synthesizer of the only crystal in history worth six thousand Taels, Legendary Magician Tanya, was killed in an explosion during a synthesis process. Before her death, she had mentioned that synthesizing up to six thousand Taels was due entirely to luck."
"How about demigods then?" A keen student noticed a loophole in what Vivian had just explained. "According to your explanation, Teacher, a Demigod should be able to eventually survive such an explosion. Then why hasn’t any Demigod synthesized the second six thousand Tael crystal?"
"Ah, seventy years back, there was a human Demigod obsessed with Crystal Synthesis. He attempted to synthesize a six thousand Tael crystal four times but failed at the final step on each occasion," Vivian commented with a sigh and a shake of her head.
"What happened afterward?" ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Bankrupt, with a debt exceeding forty million gold coins, he had to go on adventures to repay it, only to end up dead in the heart of the Death Forest." Vivian shrugged nonchalantly, saying, "So you see, it doesn’t matter how tough you are if you don’t have enough money for Crystal Synthesis."
"We’re getting off track. Let’s get back to choosing the best capacity for additional crystals." Vivian continued, "Based on thousands of years of experience, people typically choose crystals equivalent to five thousand Tael."
"Hey hey." Pannis, who had previously been upright, was now slouched on the table, on the verge of falling asleep. In his semi-conscious state, he heard someone addressing him, "You’re Pannis, right?"
Reluctantly, Pannis opened his eyes to glance at the male student seated next to him. He nodded, "Yeah, what’s up?"
"Are you living with Teacher Vivian and that priestess?" The male student asked with keen interest, "I’ve heard they all live together."
"Uh... I suppose so," Pannis nodded.
The male student’s face lit up with admiration, "I’m so envious."
"Oh?" Pannis got interested and winked at him playfully, "Seems like you have an unusually deep affection for that priestess, huh?"
"What do you mean ’unusual’?" The student retorted, blushing from ear to ear, "She’s such a pretty girl, a gentle and delicate priestess with beautiful silver hair. It would be abnormal not to admire such a girl."
"Gentle and delicate, huh." Pannis cast a sidelong glance at the guy, "With her strength, she could kill twenty of you in one blow. I don’t see anything gentle or delicate in that."
"Is it true? Are you really living with them?" The conversation caught the attention of another female student, who had spiky hair, wore oversized silver earrings, and had heavily applied black eyeshadow. She couldn’t help but ask in a hushed tone, "So you must know the knight lady then?"
"And you are?" Pannis quirked a smile, "You’re a girl, right?"
"So what if I’m a girl? Don’t be sexist!" the female student retorted, glaring at him, "The pursuit of beauty is not gender-specific, especially when it comes to the perfect blend of handsomeness and beauty like the knight lady, it’s unforgettable."
"Alright, alright, you win," Pannis said, rubbing his arm, "I’m not being sexist. I’m just a little cold."
"Um..." The male student nudged Pannis, "Could you tell me the name of the priestess?"
"Yeah, yeah," the female student licked her lips, "And the name of the knight lady, too. Maybe even their hobbies and personalities."
"You two..." Pannis frowned at them, "Really want all that information?"
"Well... lighten up a little." The female student gave Pannis a flirty look, "We can make a little trade."
"A trade?" Pannis suddenly pointed to a few female students in the class with a mischievous grin, "See them? Her, her, and her... those beauties. You give me their names, ages, addresses, hobbies, all that info, and I’ll tell you what you want. If you can dig deeper and fetch more details, well... I’ve got an empty Memory Crystal, if you know what I mean."
The three chuckled in a perverted manner, heads close together.
"Woosh." Just as they raised their heads, a giant fireball flew towards them, accompanied by Vivian’s roar. "Pannis, get the hell out!"
Pannis laughed softly and, in the blink of an eye, he jumped out the window. His voice echoed from outside, "I’ll be waiting for you by the school gate after class."
All that was left were the remaining male and female students who had taken the full brunt of the fireball. Although they were unhurt, they were covered in ash, looking utterly wretched.
"You two," Vivian pointed at the disheveled students angrily, "You will lose ten points off your final grade this year."
"No, please." The pair cried out in despair, their pitiful voices almost moved people to tears, "Teacher, we were wrong. Please give us another chance, we won’t do it again."
