Chapter 1465: Chapter 251 Nellie’s Conspiracy

"Of course," Catherine nodded, "We’re also very concerned about his issue, and having more people thinking of solutions is always better than you worrying all alone."

"His purpose for entering this time was to solve the Danacus problem," Flare said, frowning. "He said that Nellie was summoning him, that he would cooperate with Lady Nellie, and use the Hunting Arrow to kill Danacus, which would also kill Nellie’s body and thereby free the Undead from Danacus’s influence, isn’t that right?"

"Right," Lina looked at Flare strangely, somehow not understanding why she would ask such an obvious question: "Is there a problem?"

"Of course there’s a problem," Flare said with a somber face. "There’s no such thing as Danacus."

"What you’re saying..." Including the Undead, everyone was stunned by Flare’s words, each questioning their own hearing. Catherine blinked, as if she couldn’t grasp Flare’s meaning in time, and said with a puzzled face, "Did I hear that wrong, you’re saying there’s no such thing as Danacus? What does that mean? I’m sorry, I don’t understand."

"You heard me correctly, just as the words imply," Flare sighed. "What I said might not be precise enough. To be exact, Danacus does exist, but he hasn’t resurrected as early as we imagined, nor is he controlling Nellie’s body like we speculated. It’s very possible that he only began to revive as a result of the Divine Servants’ final sacrifice of their lives, and he hasn’t been able to control Nellie’s body at all yet."

"How is that possible?" Catherine covered her mouth but couldn’t hide her exclaimed shock: "If Danacus has just awakened, then who is contending with Lady Nellie for her body? Who is controlling Lady Nellie’s body?"

"Who else could it be?" Flare said bitterly. "From beginning to end, it’s Nellie herself controlling her own body, and there’s absolutely no one contesting her for it, at least not until now. Everything is just part of her plan."

"You’re joking, Your Majesty," Catherine said sternly, displeased. "Why would Lady Nellie do such a thing? There’s no benefit for her in this at all."

"Because... that damned Nellie wants Kyle to kill her," Flare said hatefully. "She didn’t consider how much this would hurt him if Kyle ever found out the truth."

"Wait, wait, my head is a bit of a mess; I need to organize my thoughts," Catherine raised her hand to stop Flare from continuing, speaking to herself as if in a murmur. "You’re saying that Lady Nellie has been pretending to be controlled by Danacus all this time, hiding in the Grimreaper’s Divine Kingdom, just so that Pannis could kill her?"

"Yes, that’s exactly it," Flare nodded. "The last time I prayed to the Goddess, in the subtle response she gave me, she hinted at this truth."

"It’s absolutely impossible," Catherine denied resolutely. "The moribund, who are the Divine Servants, told Pannis that it was under Danacus’s guidance that the final sacrifice was conducted. If it had been Lady Nellie, she would never have gotten involved with those moribund."

"All the sacrifices made by the Divine Servants before were done on their own initiative, and Nellie has never accepted them, so they’re unrelated to her," Flare said as if she had considered this issue before, and without a second thought, she continued, "The only one related was the last sacrifice. Think about it, apart from them, who else was hurt during the last sacrifice? No one. That sacrifice dealt the heaviest blow only to the moribund and Danacus’s fanatics, and no one else was affected, right?"

"That’s not right either," Catherine shook her head forcefully. "Luscia once said—oh, Luscia is Lady Bone Dragon, the Undead Queen, Lady Nellie’s closest friend here. She had said that years ago, Lady Nellie began to seclude herself within her Divine Kingdom, and until recently, there was not even a response, only an icy silence."

"It’s simple, all those were acts of pretense, and they’re very easy to fake, especially when one is hiding in her own Divine Kingdom and not meeting others," Flare asserted confidently. "Without behaving in such a way, how could Kyle have been deceived into thinking she was truly suppressed by Danacus?"

"Still not right," Freya interjected before Catherine could. "Are you saying that Lady Nellie has lost her mind? To put in so much effort just to have Pannis kill her? Such behavior is completely illogical. No one would do that, would they?"

"No, Freya," Catherine frowned and shook her head at the princess. "I’ve suddenly realized, it’s not impossible for someone to do this. What the queen said might be true."

"Explain," demanded the princess with a grave voice. "Why do you think that?"

"If I put myself in Lady Nellie’s position, under one circumstance, I might do the same," Catherine said earnestly. "If I felt that Danacus’s soul within me was becoming increasingly unstable and showing signs of awakening, and with Danacus’s followers continuously trying to accelerate his revival, and if I had no power to suppress him nor the confidence to not be devoured by him, I would look for other methods. For instance, while I still had control over my body, I might pretend that Danacus had already revived, thereby luring Pannis to me, and having Pannis kill me to completely eliminate the possibility of Danacus reviving through me. Since I would still be the one controlling my body, with my cooperation, Pannis killing me would be a foregone conclusion. He wouldn’t face any risks and could resolve all the issues, of course, except for my own death."

"That’s just your own thought, Lady Nellie, she..." Halfway through her words, Freya could not continue, for she also knew that if there were only one person among them who could speculate Nellie’s thoughts, that person would certainly be Catherine. Moreover, this kind of action, which is to sacrifice oneself to thoroughly eliminate the threat, indeed fits the habits of the most resolute knights. It would be truly strange for them not to think this way, and thus, the princess could not continue. She found she couldn’t refute at all.

"So that’s how it is." Flare suddenly realized. "That’s Nellie’s purpose."

"You didn’t know?" Catherine asked in surprise. "I wanted to confirm it with you."

"How could I possibly know," said Flare with a wry smile. "I only vaguely guessed that it was Nellie, but as for why she did it, who knows what she’s thinking."
