"The origin of the situation is quite simple." Mina’s voice was low, although her common language was a bit choppy but it did not affect the understanding of others. "Three months ago, an adventurer team from Rhea ventured deep into the Sighing Desert and found abnormalities, at that time Kyle and Nellie were in the team."
"Yes, Nellie and I were leading that team," Kyle took over the conversation: "We had taken on a mission to find the clues of an artifact from the Second Epoch near the Wound of the Earth at the edge of the desert. Nevertheless, when we were approaching the center of the desert - the Wound of the Earth, countless undead surged out like a tide from within it. The number of undead was too huge: Skeleton Warriors, Skeleton Archers, Skeleton Mages, skeletal magical beasts, Wraiths, banshees, Bone Knights. Among the ordinary low-level undead, numerous silver and gold rank undead, even a large number of legendary-rank undead were seen. Although Nellie and I are not afraid of these undead, other people in our team cannot handle them. So we had to lead others to retreat, or they would definitely die."
"Even with the two of you teaming up, weren’t you able to protect those around you?" Someone asked in confusion.
Kyle sighed recalling the situation, "In the whole of the Yarran World, how many legendary rank individuals are there? Excluding the Sea Race, only eight hundred seventy-three are known to mankind. But, at that time, we encountered more than three hundred legendary-rank undead alone, and tens of thousands of undead of various ranks were constantly squeezing the defense circle. It would be easy for Nellie and me to break through, possibly even gradually kill them all, but protecting everyone around us was too hard, hence we had no choice but to have Nellie use her inherent psychic domain to aid others to retreat. We moved for twenty kilometers before we were able to temporarily shake off the pursuit."
Seeing everyone folding their eyebrows unconsciously, Kyle continued, "Everyone must be aware of what happened next. After returning, we informed the higher-ups in countries right away, and the countries, too, all began to be on guard. Regrettably, everyone’s reaction was too slow. Less than a month and a half passed and those undead rushed out of the Sighing Desert, and not in a single direction. The undead surged out in the southern Country of Sand, northern Lost Forest, southwestern Beastmen Prairie. Thank God that the other directions were blocked by steep mountains; otherwise, the spread would have been even wider."
"The few countries that suffered the attacks, of course, immediately mobilized their armies to exterminate the undead. Sadly, ever since the start of the combat, the fighting hasn’t stopped. Various kind of undead keeps rushing out of the desert without a moment rest, not even an hour’s break."
"Another month and a half passed now, in these forty odd days the number of undead has been increasing every day. Although a defense line has been established around the Sighing Desert, a large number of warriors are lost every day. If a change doesn’t occur in this situation, the living’s power will sooner or later be exhausted by the undead. Until now, I have not seen any signs of improvement and so I suspect, the whole Sighing Desert may have become filled with undead."
Everybody was surprised, hearing for the first time Kyle’s speculation. The Goblin was the first one to ask, "Impossible, isn’t it? If tens of thousands of square kilometers of desert is filled up with undead, won’t that be tens of millions of them? Oh God, that would be nearly equivalent to the whole continent’s population."
"Perhaps it’s not that exaggerated, but I decided to estimate more pessimistically to explain the current situation. Despite exterminating so many every day, the total number of undead does not show any signs of decreasing. Most annoying is the black fog that came along with the undead, it inhibits aerial reconnaissance."
"Hence, I previously sent letters to invite everyone here, intending to storm in, even if there’s just a shred of hope. We need to find a way to solve the problem from its root cause; otherwise, the living won’t be able to withstand such attrition. I also invited the Guardians, who I think may have a better understanding of the situation."
"Your suspicion is correct." The hood conceals Mina’s expression from everyone, but her golden eyes are filled with solemnity, "The Sighing Desert, indeed, is already filled with the undead. Furthermore, every day thereafter, a large number of undead will surge from the center of the Wound of the Earth, until every corner of the Earth is filled with the undead."
No one spoke, everyone was silently waiting for Mina’s explanation.
"Everyone present is a Demigod, and is also qualified to know some secrets. Are you aware of the truth of the Sighing Desert?" Mina scanned around, not expecting anyone to answer: "The Sighing Desert is not as simple as everyone imagines."
"You must have heard the ’Song of Yarra’, I just heard you guys singing it. A large part of that song is true. In the First Epoch, the Sighing Desert was the center of the continent, and it was the place where energy was most concentrated in the entire continent. It was the most fertile place on the continent, hence, it was also the most prosperous place on the continent."
"It had the largest city, the densest population, the most temples, and the richest resources. At least before the Godslaying War that was the case. At that time, the abundant resources nourished an unimaginably huge population, then, billions of warriors, along with numerous Gods, all died here."
