Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT)-Chapter 49: Their new mother might be a man
Chapter 49: Their new mother might be a man
His anger flared again, but this time, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of embarrassment. He turned away, muttering curses under his breath, while the twins exchanged another bewildered glance.
His frustration palpable, he turned to Lian. "Get the antidote," he ordered, his voice edged with exasperation.
Lian nodded quickly, retrieving a red porcelain bottle from her pouch. She crushed the contents into a fine powder before handing it to her master. He glanced at it, then shook his head. "You feed it to him," he commanded.
Lian didn’t hesitate. She immediately complied but his face flushed with realisation. "Wait," he said, grabbing her arm. "I will do it." He was afraid she might see something she wasn’t supposed to see and ruin her innocence.
He took the antidote from her, his expression a mix of embarrassment and annoyance. Walking over to the unconscious man, he forced the medicine down his throat, ensuring he swallowed every bit. The twins watched with wide eyes, their curiosity piqued.
As Xiang Yu got back up, Lian and Mei exchanged glances. They were slowly getting used to the idea that their new "mother" might be a man. Lian’s eyes then caught sight of the jade pendant around his neck.
"Master, where did you find that? I thought you lost it," Lian asked, pointing to the pendant. Their master had even asked the demon king of the east to find him that jade pendant and he would help them fend off their enemies. He was willing to go to war for a demon king who despised him for that very same pendant.
Mei’s eyes widened in realisation. "The unconscious man had it! Master, you know him?" She couldn’t help but make up a scenario in her head that their master lied and had gifted the man the jade pendant as a love token. The man left their master, and Xiang Yu was too heartbroken to say that the person he fell in love with left with the jade pendant.
Xiang Yu’s face turned a deep shade of red, a rare sight for the usually composed Demon King. He struggled to find the words, his embarrassment evident. "It’s... complicated," he muttered, avoiding their inquisitive gazes. How was he supposed to say that this man embarrassed him several times? Each time they met he was at a disadvantage and now he had even lost his first kiss to him.
The twins exchanged knowing looks, their curiosity only growing. Xiang Yu, feeling the weight of their stares, turned away. He immediately tried to change the subject. "What did you find out about the golden token?" he asked, his voice sharp with impatience.
Lian and Mei exchanged a glance before Lian spoke up. "We asked around, Master. Someone directed us to the Taoist temple." They had hiked up the mountain outside the city to meet this master. This was why it took them a long time to get back.
Mei nodded, picking up the story. "The priest there told us that the token is from the Heavenly Sect."
Xiang Yu’s eyes widened slightly. The Heavenly Sect was as mysterious as it gets. All he knew about them was that they were was renowned for policing all the other immortal sects. They were the ones called upon when there was an issue they couldn’t handle or complicated matters that no other sect could resolve. Their secrecy was legendary, and anyone who was owed a favour by them was as good as being owed a favour by the gods.
The twins continued, their voices tinged with urgency. "We rushed back as soon as we found out. We were worried you might... damage the golden goose," Lian said, her eyes flicking to the unconscious man.
Mei added, "Who would have thought we would walk in on... that scene?"
Xiang Yu’s face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and anger. He turned away, trying to regain his composure. "Don’t... don’t mention that matter again," he muttered.
"The token thing? Why?" asked Lian seeming genuinely confused. Mei nudged her telling her to shut up. Xiang Yu glared at her and Lian finally realised. "Oh, the kissing thing. Right right we won’t mention it. My lips are sealed."

Xiang sighed, his irritation still simmering beneath the surface. He bent down and picked up the unconscious man, placing him on the bed. It wasn’t out of kindness or that he had repented from his evil ways. He simply didn’t want their new "golden goose" to be uncomfortable. Turning to the twins, he issued his orders. "Go buy a comfortable carriage and food supplies. We’re leaving for the Heavenly Sect."
Lian and Mei nodded their heads before hurrying out of the room. Xiang Yu knew the Heavenly Sect had multiple entries, and one was nearby. Because outsiders couldn’t go past the entrance, he planned to leave the man at their doorstep with a note. He sat at the desk and pulled out a piece of parchment. He dipped his brush in ink and began to write a note to the Heavenly Sect:
"I have found your disciple. You owe me a favour. The venerable demon king of the northern realm, Xiang Yu."
He folded the note and sealed it with his personal seal. Standing up, he glanced at the man on the bed, his expression unreadable. This man, however troublesome he was, he was worth saving. Gaining a favour from the Heavenly Sect might have been worth his first kiss. Don’t get him wrong. He was still pissed off about that but not as much after finding out this ugly bastard’s identity.

The twins took the reins, guiding the horses with practised ease. Xiang Yu had offered to take the reins himself, but they had refused, insisting that he rest. Secretly, they hoped their master would spend more time with the man who might become their new "mother."
The carriage was comfortable and spacious, designed for long journeys. The unconscious man lay on a plush seat, his breathing steady. Xiang Yu sat opposite him, resolutely ignoring the man as he immersed himself in his book.
As the carriage rolled along, he reached into his bag for a snack. He had just begun munching on some melon seeds when a hand reached in from the outside, fingers wiggling in a silent plea. Xiang Yu rolled his eyes but couldn’t suppress a smile. "You two are so greedy," he called out playfully, passing the bag of melon seeds through the curtain. Each time he opened a pouch of snacks they would pop out like they had a sixth sense. He couldn’t even enjoy a snack in peace.
The twins laughed, their voices bright and cheerful. "Thank you, Master!" they chorused, enjoying their loot as they continued to guide the horses. Xiang Yu shook his head, a rare smile playing on his lips.
