Chapter 45: Such an ugly thing

The hostages’ eyes widened as they saw the tall young man clad in a black robe with golden embroidery tailored perfectly to his frame. His handsome features were so striking that they couldn’t help but stare. He was their saviour, the one who had rescued them from a horrible fate. A tattoo peeked out above his collar, adding to his allure. Despite his cold demeanour and overbearing aura, he was like a magnet, drawing their attention irresistibly.

Those who had rejected the twins’ proposition felt a pang of regret. They had ruined their chances, if there had been any. The woman in the green dress and another who had previously called him ugly now shamelessly called out coquettishly, thanking him.

"My Lord, thank you for rescuing us."

"My Lord, you are truly a saint. Thank you."

Their voices were sweet and ingratiating, hoping to catch his attention. Some of the other women rolled their eyes, clearly unimpressed by their shameless display. Xiang Yu ignored the fawning women entirely his focus on the mischievous pair. "Get everyone out," he said before he turned and walked outside, his steps purposeful and unhurried. He had a Ghost King to deal with.

As the young women began to file out of the small house, Xiang Yu approached the trembling Ghost King he had frozen in place. The air around them was tense, the forest eerily silent as Xiang Yu’s cold gaze bore into the Ghost King.

"What method did you use to subdue the mortal you used to amplify your power?" he demanded, his voice low and menacing.

The Ghost King squirmed under Xiang Yu’s intense scrutiny. "I I I didn’t subdue him. My lord, I am not that powerful. I stumbled on the coffin in a deep cave. It was right there just sitting there. When I sensed how powerful the immortal was I thought it would be a big waste to just leave him there. So, I carved some runes on the coffin," he admitted, his voice trembling. "."

Xiang Yu’s eyes narrowed resisting the urge to laugh at that ugly bastard’s misfortune. "So, you used his power just to kidnap women?"

The Ghost King hesitated, then sighed in defeat. "I wanted to have a harem too. Hey, don’t give me that look. Even the half-blood mongrel of the northern realm has a harem he robbed from his dead old man so why can’t I?"

Xiang Yu the half-blood mongrel, "???"

He had never cared for this rumour before, but now he wanted to know who had the balls to spread such slanderous gossip. The Ghost King’s laughter echoed, a nervous tremor betraying his fear. He could sense a shift in Xiang Yu’s aura. "So... will my lord spare me? I have told you everything," he asked, his voice quivering despite his attempt at bravado. Xiang Yu’s red eyes gleamed with a sinister light as a malicious grin spread across his face. Without a word, he snapped his fingers. The Ghost King vanished in an instant, reappearing inside a suppression bottle on a shelf in Xiang Yu’s study back in the northern demon realm.

The Ghost King’s screams filled the bottle, but outside, the study remained eerily silent. The bottle sat still. The study, filled with ancient books and dark artefacts, seemed to hum with malevolent energy.

Xiang Yu turned around and found the twins and the group of women waiting for him patiently. The women seemed to not want to move a step without his approval. It was because they were afraid to leave alone. What if other predators were lurking in the dark? "Let’s go," he said to the twins and the women followed after them heading back to the city. Xiang Yu wanted to ask these two what they were really up to but with those women following closely behind he couldn’t utter a word.

As they walked through the dense forest back to Xiannu City, Lian’s sharp eyes caught sight of a figure lying next to a shattered coffin. "Master, look! What is that?" she yelled, rushing off before he could stop her.

Mei was about to follow her sister when Xiang Yu’s firm hand stopped her. "Ignore it," he commanded, his voice cold and unyielding. Mei hesitated but obeyed, though her eyes remained fixed on Lian.

Lian, undeterred, was already poking the man’s face with a stick. "Is it dead?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her manners.

Mei couldn’t stand it any longer and rushed over to join her sister. Xiang Yu sighed, rrealising hat it was too late to ignore that bastard. "Stay where you are," he ordered the group of young women who had been following them. He didn’t need them to overhear their conversation.

"We need to go," Xiang Yu told the twins, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. The girls who were arguing stopped talking. Normally, they would have obeyed him, but they were too intrigued by the man to listen.

Lian, ever the bold one, asked, "Can I preserve him? His skin is so pretty."

Xiang Yu’s eyes narrowed in irritation. "Why would you want to keep such an ugly thing?" he snapped.

The twins exchanged a glance before simultaneously questioning, "Master, are you going blind? He’s clearly handsome."

Xiang Yu, "???"

He wanted to leave him where he found him, but the twins’ pleading eyes and persistent begging wore him down. What he didn’t know was that they wanted to show the young women standing behind them that their master was a good person who helped those in need.

With a resigned sigh, Xiang Yu finally relented. "Fine. Bring it along but you will be responsible for it," he said, his voice tinged with annoyance. The twins beamed with triumph. He turned to leave but they didn’t follow. Xiang Yu glanced back and they pointed at the man. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"Master, you carry him," said Lian.

"We are so weak after that ordeal. It was terrifying," chimed in Mei. The two of them were banding together against him. He wanted to call them out on their bull shit but he felt bad after their night out was ruined.

"Fine. I will carry him but that’s it," he said in exasperation. He grabbed the man’s arm, fighting off the urge to kick him in frustration. With a grunt, he pulled the man up and slung him over his back. Surprisingly, the man was as light as a feather, his limp body draping over him effortlessly.

As he walked the man’s warm breath grazed his neck, sending an irritating itch down his spine. He almost dropped him to the ground but he gritted his teeth, determined to ignore the sensation. The young women in their group couldn’t help but stare as he walked past them, their eyes wide with awe.

What were the chances that they would see two dangerously handsome men in one night? It was breathtaking. The young women whispered among themselves, their gazes flickering between Xiang Yu and the unconscious man on his back. Xiang Yu’s patience wore thin but Lian and Mei were excitedly praising him. He didn’t want them to lose face so he carried on.
