The Spare's Second Chance in Apocalypse-Chapter 40: Ch : The First Dungeons- Part 1
Chapter 40: Ch 40: The First Dungeons- Part 1
Selene stirred as she slowly regained consciousness, her mind foggy and her body aching.
A sharp gust of wind hit her face, making her shiver slightly as awareness settled in.
Something didn’t feel right. Why did the world feel like she was moving at the moment?
There was warmth in front of her, something solid and unmoving. It took her a moment to process, but when she did, her eyes widened in shock.
She was being carried.
By Ethan.
This was not something Selene expected to ever happen. And a startled yelp escaped her lips before she could stop it.
Immediately, Ethan tilted his head slightly, noticing that she was awake.
Without missing a beat, he smoothly came to a stop, adjusting his grip on her effortlessly before setting her back down on her feet.
"You’re finally up. I thought you would sleep through the whole day and ruin all our plans. But it looks like you are not that irresponsible. You are just irresponsible to get yourself hurt."
He said, his usual cheerful tone present as he smirked down at her. But his smile seemed to be hiding irritation and anger.
’What the hell-! Why is he so angry at me? What did I ever do to him? Ouch, this hurts!’
Selene barely had time to react before sharp pain shot through her entire body the moment she put pressure on her feet.
Her legs buckled instantly, and before she could stop herself, she collapsed. Thankfully, she did not hit anything major and she was not hurt any further.
Ethan sighed dramatically, shaking his head.
"Seriously? You wake up just to fall again? How weak. I knew we should have worked on your endurance."
Despite his teasing words, he moved quickly, grabbing her arm before she could hit the ground. His grip was strong yet careful, steadying her with ease.
Selene felt her heart tickle at the care she got, but she felt creeped out at the same time.
Zara, who had been walking beside them, raised an eyebrow.
"Now this is out of character. Since when do you help people, Ethan?"
Apparently, Zara felt the same when she looked at Ethan’s behaviour and she ended up commenting about it as well.
Ethan shot her a glare, though his grin never wavered.
"Shut up, Zara."
She just smirked, clearly amused. Zara knew she had won this round when Ethan forgot to give her a witty remark.
He was doing a lot of it these days, especially when it came to Selene.
Selene took a deep breath, trying to ignore the pain radiating through her body.
She needed to focus. The last thing she remembered was the twins awakening... and then everything had gone dark.
Her eyes lifted to Ethan.
"What happened?"
She asked, her voice hoarse. She felt like she needed to know everything.
Ethan hummed in thought before flashing her a playful grin. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"Not much. You passed out, so I took care of things on your behalf."
Selene’s heart skipped a beat.
"Took care of things?"
Her mind immediately jumped to the worst possibilities. Had he hurt the twins? Had he—
Before her thoughts could spiral further, Zara quickly interrupted, rolling her eyes.
"What he meant to say is that he took you and left before anything else could happen. Your siblings are fine."
Selene let out a slow breath, tension leaving her shoulders. For a brief moment, she had truly thought—
No, she didn’t want to go there.
Her gaze flickered between the two of them, hesitating before she finally said.
"...Thank you."
Zara waved a dismissive hand.
"No need for that."
Ethan, on the other hand, grinned wider.
"Oh? You actually thanking me? Maybe you did hit your head too hard."
Selene scowled instantly.
"Forget it."
Ethan chuckled, clearly enjoying himself.
Shifting focus, Selene straightened slightly, forcing herself to concentrate.
"We need to head back. The first dungeon is going to appear soon, and we can’t miss it."
She said firmly.
At the mention of the dungeon, both Ethan and Zara nodded in agreement.
The first dungeon was a game-changer.
It was the first real chance for people to gain power, but it was also dangerous. In her past life, many had died trying to clear it. But those who succeeded had been granted immense rewards.
Selene knew that missing this opportunity was not an option.
They had planned for this moment.
And they had to win.
Zara glanced at Selene, concern flickering in her eyes.
"Are you sure you’re up for it? You can barely stand."
Selene clenched her fists, forcing herself to straighten.
"I don’t have a choice. We need this"
She said.
Zara hesitated before nodding.
"Alright. Just don’t pass out again."
Ethan smirked.
"If she does, I’ll carry her again."
Selene shot him a glare, but Ethan just laughed.
The trio started moving again, making their way back toward their base as quickly as possible.
The streets were eerily silent, only the occasional distant scream or crumbling building breaking the quiet.
Selene’s eyes scanned their surroundings, wary of any sudden attacks.
The apocalypse had only just begun, but the chaos had already taken over. Cities were crumbling, and monsters were lurking in the shadows.
But she wasn’t scared.
Not anymore.
She had already lived through this nightmare once before.
This time, she was prepared.
Ethan walked ahead, his usual energy still present despite the situation.
"So, what’s the plan?"
He asked.
Selene exhaled, pushing her pain aside.
"We get to the dungeon first. The entrance should appear near the central plaza in a few hours. Once we’re inside, we clear it as fast as possible."
Zara crossed her arms.
"And if others show up?"
Selene’s expression hardened.
"Then we deal with them."
Ethan grinned.
"That’s what I like to hear."
They moved quickly, their pace steady. The wind was cool against Selene’s face, but the tension in the air was undeniable.
The dungeon was their first real step toward survival.
And they would survive.
No matter what it took.
