Chapter 39: Ch 39: The Vale Mansion- Part 6

Selene’s vision blurred before she could fully process what had happened.

The pain in her back was overwhelming, her body giving out from exhaustion and blood loss. She barely registered Noah and Nora’s voices calling her name before everything faded to black.

When she collapsed, Noah and Nora froze.

For a second, neither of them moved.

Then, as if something snapped inside them, they rushed toward her.

Noah knelt down, his hands hovering over her body, unsure of what to do.

"Selene? Hey, wake up!"

Nora’s breathing was ragged.

"She’s hurt. We need to—"

Before she could finish, one of the bodyguards shoved past them.

It was the same guard Selene had thrown over her shoulder earlier, and his face was twisted with irritation. Without a hint of gentleness, he grabbed Selene’s limp form, lifting her up roughly.

Noah’s and Nora’s eyes darkened.

"Be careful with her!"

Nora snapped.

The guard scoffed.

"She’s fine. We should leave now before more monsters come."

Noah clenched his fists. His emotions were all over the place—anger, confusion, exhaustion—but one thing was clear: he didn’t like this man touching Selene.

The guard must have sensed the twins’ hostility because he smirked.

"Relax. Don’t worry about the ’spare.’ I won’t let her die."

The words hit like a slap.

A spare.

That’s what they called her?

Noah’s entire body stiffened.

Cold air crackled around him as the temperature in the room plummeted.

The bodyguard barely had time to react before ice crept up his arms, freezing the air around him. He let out a panicked yell, stepping back just in time to avoid being completely encased in ice.

Noah’s golden eyes burned with rage.

"Give her to me!"

He demanded, his voice sharp as a blade.

The guard hesitated.

He was taller and stronger than Noah, but the boy’s newfound power made him pause.

Noah reached out, intent on taking Selene himself, but the moment he tried to lift her, he realized something.

She wasn’t much smaller than him, and carrying an unconscious person wasn’t as easy as he thought.

His arms trembled.

Exhaustion hit him like a brick wall.

The awakening, the fight, the panic—it was all catching up to him.

Noah hated it, but he couldn’t carry her alone.

Beside him, Nora clenched her fists. She was just as drained.

Still, that didn’t mean they would let these people decide what happened to their sister.

"She’s coming with us. "Make space for her in our car."

Noah declared.

The bodyguard frowned.

"That’s not possible."

"What?"

"There’s no room. She’ll have to ride with the other guards."

Noah’s temper snapped.

He stepped forward, grabbing the man’s collar.

"She is my sister. A Vale. Show her some respect."

For a moment, there was silence.

The other guards exchanged awkward glances, looking uncertain.

Noah’s demand was bold—unexpected, even.

Everyone knew Selene was a Vale by blood, but she had never been treated like one.

But now, things were different.

Noah was different.

And he wasn’t backing down.

Before another argument could break out, the sound of footsteps echoed through the room.

The tension shifted instantly.

Nora stiffened, her flames flickering to life in her palm as she turned toward the source of the sound.

They were ready for another fight.

But instead of a monster, two people stepped into view.

A tall man with golden eyes and an easygoing smile.

A woman with striking blue hair and a sharp, observant gaze.

The man was dragging a monster corpse behind him, whistling as if this was just another casual day.

"Well, well! Looks like we missed the party."

He said, flashing a grin.

Nora’s flames flickered uncertainly.

"Who...?"

The blue-haired woman tilted her head.

"You must be the twins."

She looked them over, then her gaze landed on Selene’s unconscious form.

Her expression darkened.

"I see we arrived just in time."

The golden-eyed man dropped the monster’s body with a thud and stretched his arms.

"You guys are making a lot of noise. Thought we should come see what the fuss was about."

His grin sharpened.

"Seems like we walked into something interesting."

The moment the golden-eyed man stepped forward, both Noah and Nora felt their instincts scream at them.

Danger.

Their bodies tensed.

Noah’s grip on Selene tightened as if shielding her would keep her safe. He could feel it—this man wasn’t normal. He wasn’t someone they could fight and win against.

Still, they couldn’t just let him take her.

Before Noah could react, before he could even blink, the man moved.

One second, he was standing across from them.

The next, he was between them.

In a flash, Selene was no longer in Noah’s arms.

The man had taken her.

He had retreated a few steps away before Noah or Nora even had time to process what had happened.

It was so fast—too fast.

Noah’s eyes widened in disbelief.

"You—"

"Give her back!"

Nora yelled, her flames flaring up. She looked just as mad as her twin, but she was better at hiding things on her end.

The bodyguards, still too stunned to react properly, fumbled to draw their weapons.

But the golden-eyed man—Ethan—just tilted his head, his expression amused.

"I don’t think I will."

he said casually.

Noah clenched his fists, his teeth grinding together in frustration.

"She’s our sister. You can’t just—"

Ethan’s golden eyes gleamed as he smirked.

"Then come and take her back."

Noah and Nora froze.

The challenge in his voice was clear.

Ethan adjusted Selene in his arms with ease, like she weighed nothing. "

If you want to get her back. get stronger. Then come find me"

He said.

Noah’s hands shook with anger.

Nora’s flames wavered, her emotions making them unstable.

They wanted to fight.

They wanted to stop him.

But deep down, they knew.

They couldn’t win.

Not now.

Ethan turned away from them, already walking toward the exit.

Zara followed closely behind, her sharp blue eyes scanning their surroundings for any sudden attacks.

Just like that, they left the fuming twins and the stunned bodyguards behind.

And within moments—

They were gone.
