Chapter 325: Chapter 315: Class Gossip

The next day, Lu Jingqiu didn’t get up too early, as there was no need to rush for school. Shang Ze had to leave half an hour earlier when driving them because he had to go to school as well.

Now able to sleep until eight o’clock, she got up, made a small pot of millet porridge in the kitchen, fried four eggs, and stir-fried a plate of potatoes.

Shen Manman also came out of the bathroom at this time, sleepy-eyed and with disheveled hair. Seeing Jingqiu in the kitchen, she hurried in to help serve the food, "Sister, I’m sorry, the coffee from yesterday was too strong for me, and I hardly slept at all last night."

"It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have given you coffee yesterday."

"I usually drink coffee, maybe I was just too excited yesterday."

After having breakfast, Shen Manman rode Jingqiu’s bike and took her straight to the Housing Authority.

When they arrived, Director Zhang was already waiting for them.

"Uncle Zhang."

"Little Man, you’ve come at the right time, there are fewer people now, perfect for getting your business done. Are you really selling the house?"

Shen Manman smiled and nodded, "Yes, I’m selling it, Uncle Zhao doesn’t have to worry. I’m doing well over there, and with this money, I can buy a place of my own."

Director Zhang didn’t say much more, "Alright, as long as you’ve thought it through."

Shen Manman and Lu Jingqiu exchanged smiles and followed Uncle Zhang to change the name on the property deed.

Before leaving, Shen Manman told Uncle Zhang that she had taken Jingqiu as her sister and would henceforth consider her her elder sister.

If she returned to West City, she would go directly to her sister’s place; although she no longer had a house here, she had gained a sister and another home.

Director Zhang was quite surprised; landlord and tenant relationships seldom turned out so well. He knew a bit about Jingqiu’s family, who were on good terms with Director Liang of the local police station and had connections with city leaders.

For Manman to have recognized such a sister was a good thing, at least no one would dare to bully her in the future.

His old friend would rest easy in heaven now.

When Shen Manman came out, it was just past nine and she suggested going to the train station to buy tickets.

Jingqiu followed her and bought a ticket to Shanghai for later that evening, after 8 PM.

As it was nearing lunchtime, Jingqiu let Shen Manman take her to the beef soup restaurant, "This is the shop I opened with two sisters. Come on, I’ll take you to taste it."

"Wow, you guys are partners, huh?"

"Yes, just like you guys. But we who run restaurants are not as free as you, we have to stock up on ingredients every day, do the accounting."

"It’s pretty much the same for us, we three have to source goods in our spare time. It’s not easy to find good stuff. Sometimes, we spend the entire Sunday in the factory warehouse, sorting through goods from morning to evening until our arms ache.

Of course, we can’t just take any odd lot, we’re looking for large quantities of good quality."

"There’s no easy way to run a business, it’s hard work at first, but when you start seeing returns later, you’ll be all smiles."

Shen Manman laughed, "That’s true."

Once Jingqiu took Shen Manman inside, they ordered two bowls. Everyone in the shop recognized her and knew the boss had arrived, but there were no exceptions, payment was still required, just at a reduced price.

Shen Manman thought the taste was amazing; you couldn’t get beef soup like this in Shanghai.

After they ate, the two of them went home. Shen Manman then dropped Jingqiu off at school, and at the school gate, she said, "Sister, I’ll be heading to the train station around six. I’ll leave the keys in the gap at the front door of the house."

"I should be home around seven o’clock."

"Don’t worry about me, and there’s no need to see me off. I’m traveling light and it’s convenient for me.

Once I get to Shanghai, I’ll send you a telegram to let you know I’ve arrived safely."

"Ok, just be careful on your way. Cook a few eggs to take with you, there’s vegetable in the backyard, make some pancakes or stir-fry something to take along, or you could also get a portion of beef soup to go from the shop."

"I got it. I’m off."

"Alright, take it easy on the road."

After parting ways, Jingqiu checked the time and realized she couldn’t return to the dorm now, so she went straight to class.

She rarely arrived early, thinking there wouldn’t be many people at this time.

True enough, there were only two people, one of whom she didn’t recognize, sitting close to Mi Qiaomai.

The two seemed quite intimate just a moment ago.

Seeing her approach was quite unexpected; the man said something to Mi Qiaomai and promptly left.

Lu Jingqiu was slightly stunned as she watched the man leave, then turned to look at Mi Qiaomai, noticing she didn’t seem inclined to speak.

So she didn’t ask anything further and quietly took her seat.

By the time Luo Xinyue came over, class was about to start.

"When did you get here? Why didn’t you stop by the dorm?"

"I saw there wasn’t much time left, and even if I went, I couldn’t stay more than two minutes, so I came straight back to the classroom."

"Oh, I slept a bit heavily at noon and still haven’t quite recovered."

"You’ve become sleepy too?"

"It’s not too bad, it’s just that I had some reactions yesterday. Yesterday Shang Ze brought home pig’s trotters, and I couldn’t stand the smell."

"You’re having a reaction to pig’s trotters? How about other foods?"

"Everything else is fine; it’s just this I can’t handle."

"This is the first time I’ve heard of that; it varies from person to person, I guess. Then in the future, you shouldn’t let Shang Ze prepare this for you. It’s fine if you can eat fish; some fish would do too."

"Okay."

Lu Jingqiu didn’t discuss Mi Qiaomai with Luo Xinyue in class, and it wasn’t until school was out and they were waiting for Shang Ze to pick them up at the school gate that Lu Jingqiu brought up what happened at noon.

Luo Xinyue gave her a sidelong glance, not too pleased, "You’re always studying in class, even the class representative, and you don’t know some of the things happening around."

"What happened?"

"That comrade is Mi Qiaomai’s boyfriend. I heard he’s from outside West City and has quite a nice family background. How come he’s come to our school, even to our class? Did they do anything inappropriate?"

"...Oh, I didn’t see very clearly."

"As long as we know about it, let’s not bother with them. I heard from Xu Yu that the guy is married."

"Ah, Xu Yu talks to you about these things?"

"Xu Yu and Mi Qiaomai had a falling out, and now they barely talk to each other."

"Oh, I remember you mentioning they were having a falling out before."

"Yeah, Xu Yu said that Mi Qiaomai stole her term paper last semester, and when it was found out, there was quite a commotion in their dorm."

"How come I didn’t know about it?"

Luo Xinyue looked at her, "In our class, you’re seen as the bookworm, the model student, who would pay attention to these things?"

"Me and being nosy, not good."

"Alright alright, I knew about it, just got too busy and forgot to tell you. Oh, by the way, did you transfer the property of that house?"

"I did."

"I really didn’t expect her to sell the house. How did she become your sister?"

Lu Jingqiu laughed, "We both felt we had a good connection, and plus, I really like her, and she likes me a lot too. So, we decided to become sworn sisters."

"Really, you can be mysterious too, not telling me about this."

"It was quite sudden, it just came up."

"Having a sister is nice. Your dad and your husband don’t know about this yet, right?"

"Not yet. It’s my sister, can’t I decide by myself?"

"What about me?"

Lu Jingqiu wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "You and Niannian are my closest girlfriends, for a lifetime."

"That’s more like it."

"Of course."
