The Reborn Sidekick Rejected The Male Lead-Chapter 324 - 314: Shen Manman is Back
Chapter 324: Chapter 314: Shen Manman is Back
Lu Jingqiu brought her in and then hurried downstairs to clean up a room for her.
Shen Manman set her bag in the living room and said, "Sister Lu, may I look around the room?"
"Of course, you can. Feel free to have a look around. I’ll go and make your bed."
When Shen Manman heard Lu Jingqiu was going to make her bed, she quickly said, "Let me help you with that."
"Alright."
The bedroom on the first floor was quite simple, as it was meant for guests.
Shen Manman walked in, looked at the freshly painted walls, and the new bed and wardrobe in the room, and remarked, "I used to live in this very room."
Lu Jingqiu exclaimed, "Wow, what a coincidence."
"Yes, you’ve done such a wonderful job with the house. Selling it to you was like finding it a good new owner."
"It’s really the house that’s wonderful; anyone who sees it would love it. By the way, coming back now doesn’t interfere with your studies, does it?"
"I had no choice; I took a week’s sick leave. After this visit, it might be years before I come back to West City again."
"How’s the business going?"
The moment business was mentioned, Shen Manman’s face lit up with excitement, "We made money on that last shipment we sent out. Our business is finally on track, and we’ve just dispatched another batch of goods recently. I took this opportunity to come back."
"That’s great, keep it up."
"Yes, I will."
"For tomorrow’s property transfer, I need to ask my classmate to help me take some time off."
"Okay," Shen Manman looked outside and asked, "Do you want me to come with you?"
"I do."
"Then let’s go."
Shen Manman was a whirlwind of energy, not resting for a moment.
Shortly after entering, Lu Jingqiu took up a flashlight and led Shen Manman back out, heading over to Luo Xinyue’s place.
Shen Manman, surprised by the short distance between the two houses, said, "Sister Lu, you and your classmate live so close. Having classmates nearby means you always have someone to do things with and won’t feel lonely."
Lu Jingqiu laughed, "You have quite a few companions yourself. Throughout life, we’ll have a few pals in every stage, and some might even become lifelong best sisters."
"I hope so. I’m already content with being able to get away from unbearable relatives and pursue my studies abroad, especially since my family left me some funds to live on."
Lu Jingqiu agreed with her statement, "That’s good. Being on your own and away from such unbearable relatives is not bad; at least you have fewer worries. But if you ever come back to West City, my home will still welcome your arrival."
Hearing these words, Shen Manman’s expression froze slightly, and her eyes suddenly reddened, "Sister Lu, all this time, you’re the only one who has talked to me like this. I wish you were my real sister."
Lu Jingqiu looked at Shen Manman and smiled, "If you don’t mind calling me your sister, I certainly wouldn’t stop you."
"Really? I’ll take you seriously, you know."
"Haha, yes, I’m serious too."
"Ah, then good. Let’s become sworn sisters."
"What, sworn sisters?"
"Yeah, to become sworn sisters. Or acknowledge each other as god-sisters."
"Oh, that’s also fine. Then let’s acknowledge the kinship with a cup of tea when we get back."
Shen Manman really took it to heart; she liked this sister and brother who leased her a room and rescued her from troubling circumstances.
Lu Jingqiu found this younger sister agreeable as well. Even with such turmoil at home, she could still approach life with optimism and seriousness, and such people are always positive and uplifting.
Once the two arrived at Luo Xinyue’s home, Lu Jingqiu introduced Shen Manman, "Xinyue, this is my landlord, and now she is my sister. I need to take a half-day off tomorrow. Could you please inform Professor Shi for me?"
"Ah, okay. Why the sudden leave tomorrow, is something happening?"
Shen Manman chimed in, "Sister Luo, tomorrow I need to accompany Sister Lu to the Housing Authority for the property transfer. I’ve sold the house to her."
As soon as Luo Xinyue heard that Jingqiu’s house was for sale, she didn’t know why, but she was even happier than Lu Jingqiu. "Great, you guys go tomorrow. Jingqiu, I’ll ask for leave for you."
That house had cost Jingqiu so much money to renovate, and now it could become hers, which couldn’t be any better.
Lu Jingqiu said, "Okay, then we’ll head back. I’ll come over again at noon tomorrow."
"Sure, take a whole day if you need to finish up."
Shen Manman said, "It’ll be settled in a moment, I’ve already spoken with Uncle Zhao, the process isn’t complicated."
"Then that’s good."
After leaving Luo Xinyue’s house, Lu Jingqiu walked to the alley entrance and noticed that the aunty’s window was still open, so she approached and said, "Aunty, do you still have any buns or steamed bread left today?"
"Is that you, Jingqiu? Yes, yes, there are today. We have mushroom-filled buns, and also radish top filling."
Lu Jingqiu hurriedly took out a dime, "Aunty, then give me one of each, please."
"Alright."
The aunty’s buns were five cents each, but in the end, she packed four for Lu Jingqiu.
Lu Jingqiu knew the aunty would do this, so when she was leaving, she secretly left a dime on the window sill, "Thank you, aunty. I’m off."
"Okay, take care."
Shen Manman asked, "When did a steamed bread shop open up here?"
"Not long ago, and the business is pretty good."
When the two got back home, Lu Jingqiu prepared a plate of fruit and a plate of buns, and of course, instead of tea, Lu Jingqiu made two glasses of milk.
Shen Manman said, "If only it were wine."
Lu Jingqiu shrugged, "I’m pregnant. I can’t drink that."
"Wow, really?"
"Yes, just over a month. It’s still a secret."
"Then in a few months, I’ll become an aunt."
"Yes."
"Sister, let’s have milk to celebrate our kinship."
Lu Jingqiu couldn’t help but laugh at these words. Drinking milk might be funny, but the two of them were serious.
They clinked glasses, and so the sisterhood was acknowledged.
After the kinship ceremony, Lu Jingqiu made her a cup of coffee.
Shen Manman wasn’t sleepy anymore, so Lu Jingqiu kept her company watching TV in the living room.
As they chatted, Shen Manman talked about a house she’d taken a liking to in Shanghai.
"That house is in a shantytown, owned by an elderly person living alone who has fallen ill and won’t last much longer. She has one condition—if she passes away, she wants me to handle her affairs and will sell the house to me for three thousand yuan, with two rooms, a bedroom and a kitchen."
"Right now, I only have a little over a thousand yuan in hand, but I can scrape together the full three thousand in two months. What do you think, should I buy it?"
"If you think it’s fine, go ahead and buy it. Houses over there, no matter where, always appreciate in value after purchase. But, doesn’t the landlord have any relatives? Just worried there might be some property disputes."
Shen Manman had thought about this before, but wasn’t sure, "I’ve inquired about it. The old lady’s husband passed away years ago, and she only returned here in the past couple of years. She has a son overseas who can’t come back. The old lady said she would write an agreement for me and then write a letter to leave for her son, whom she’s not seen for many years, so even if there are disputes later, with the agreement, there would be nothing he could do."
"It’s good to have an agreement, but you’ll need a guarantor."
"There is one. The old lady said that when she writes the agreement, neighbors nearby will be called as witnesses. Additionally, the money I pay for the house, apart from the expenses for her funeral, will be donated to the poor neighbors nearby. The residents’ committee will be witness to that."
"That way, it seems feasible."
"Yes, the old lady has thought things through more clearly than I have."
Knowing that Lu Jingqiu couldn’t stay up too late, Shen Manman didn’t chat for too long and urged her to go to sleep.
She then boiled some water, took a shower downstairs, and went back to her room.
