The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife-Chapter 23 – Being who she was born to be.
Chapter 23: Chapter 23 – Being who she was born to be.
Sabrina could not hold back her tears, as Devin rubbed her back comfortingly. "Where are you, Tilda? I want to see you." Sabrina’s voice was as soft as a feather.
Matilda was always kind but even kind people had their limits. Sabrina never expected Matilda to miss her after she neglected her in her time of need.
"I...I want to see you too but I can’t. My father locked me away. He sees me as a disgrace. I was drunk, Brina. I had no idea what happened. I don’t know if someone injected the drugs into my body but the only thing I did was drink too much because of my heartbreak," Matilda explained through Sobs.
She had also been looking for someone to just listen to her side of the story but nobody did. They believed the doctors’ report without caring to know how it happened but Sabrina was taken aback by the second part of her story.
"Heartbreak?"
"Yes, I met a guy but I could not tell you about him since we never saw each other after your marriage to Robin. He was the one I went to meet at the club but he showed up with another woman and ignored me. I could not take the pain and thought that alcohol would soothe it. It only landed me into trouble," Matilda narrated through her pants, Sabrina felt even more guilty for not being there for her.
"I knew you were innocent but I’m sorry I could not help. I was selfish."
"It’s all in the past. I have to go," Matilda’s tone suddenly turned hoarse as she spoke. Sabrina could not let her go just yet. She had to find a way to make it up to her. This was one of the advantages of being divorced. She could find her life again and be who she was born to be without trying to please anyone.
"I want to help. How can I make you gain back your freedom and also clear your name? I want to help you to gain back your dignity," Sabrina vowed. Hearing a small sigh from the end of the line, Matilda revealed,
"Unless you can break into my father’s mansion and kidnap me, I don’t see any other way."
Sabrina stilled a little before asking, "Won’t he be furious?"
"He will but that is the only way I will be able to fight back. He deleted all my contacts. My phone is merely a toy as I speak to you. There are no apps and no internet connection," Matilda continued to say but Sabrina did not notice how Devin’s hands balled into fists upon hearing that Matilda was held captive in her father’s house.
"I promise, Tilda, I will get you out," Sabrina vowed again but somehow, Matilda could not believe her words, asking menacingly,
"What about your husband?"
"I will tell you when I meet you."
"His bodyguards are coming. I have to go." The line died after that. But a text message soon followed, ’You are not obligated to help but if you want to, then text messages only.’
’Well noted. I will let you in on the plan,’ Sabrina texted back while holding her phone tightly. She looked at Devin pleadingly and asked, "You will help, won’t you? Don’t forget that you brought it up."
Devin smiled and replied, "Just tell me to help. You know I can never say no to you."
Sabrina was satisfied with the assurance he gave her but also felt that she had bothered Devin so much. "But I owe you too much."
"It’s my responsibility to take care of my kid sister. You owe me nothing, Sabrina," Devin comforted and hugged her.
"I love you Devin, you are an angel."
"I love you too," Devin responded soothingly.
The next day, Sabrina moved to her father’s mansion. Due to the plan to rescue her best friend, she was only going to spend a night before returning to Devin’s penthouse. Lizzy was already a great companion for her father so she did not have to worry about him being lonely.
"You’ve done a great job, Lizzy," Sabrina said in admiration of her new closet. It was as if it belonged to a superstar. Also, her old room was dazzling. Lizzy had done a complete makeover to it.
"Anything for my big sis. Besides, Devin paid for it all."
"What’s going on?"
Devin was having a chat with his foster dad but hearing his name from upstairs, he quickly rushed there and asked. His eyes roamed the room Sabrina had stayed before but it was nothing like it. The closet was also well arranged but looking at it from a business perspective, he frowned a little as Lizzy asked with glistening eyes.
"What do you think about my work?"
Devin watched her choice of brands blankly together with the arrangements and asked, "Have you handed over everything there is to Sabrina?"
"Yes."
"Then you’ll start work on Monday as my assistant. If you work harder, I won’t mind making you the boss. I’m already looking into another business that would take a chunk of my ti-"
A force hit Devin before the rest of his words came out. Lizzy hugged him tightly, "Thank you, Devin, thank you very much," Lizzy said in a teary voice before adding, "You won’t regret this, I promise."
"I know I won’t," Devin agreed, a smirk forming in the corner of his mouth. Lizzy was indeed exceptional with her work so he was certain that she was going to flourish at where her passion lay.
"Shall we go now?" Devin asked Sabrina, before realizing that she was staring at the image on the tv, looking lost. Her eyes were moist.
"What’s the," Devin’s voice cut midway, as he saw the popular show on tv. The guest looked very familiar and he understood the reason why Sabrina was stunned.
