The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife-Chapter 22 - An interesting choice.
Chapter 22: Chapter 22 - An interesting choice.
Devin thought about the past, how much he gave, and his retribution. He scoffed at the mention of the word love. Only if he had not seen it with his naked eyes, never would he have believed it. He shook it off and snarled,
"You are wasting my time. My woman is waiting for me." Her reluctance to leave annoyed him, he dragged her out and slammed the door behind her.
"What an interesting choice of a woman you have there?" Sabrina stood up and began walking towards he dining table whiles she asked. Devin discerned that she did not recall Lindsay and asked,
"You don’t watch movies so much, do you?"
"It’s been a while," Sabrina agreed whiles she pulled the smaller plate before her. Devin joined her and while they began to eat, he went on to explain,
"Linsay was a rising star. I sponsored her because I loved her, aside from the fact that she was a good actress. For some reason, I did not introduce her to dad and Lizzy but I planned to do so after my business trip to California. Guess what?"
"What?" Sabrina asked with her mouth full, whiles nodding her head at the great taste of the noodles. She could get used to being spoiled again. For two days in a row, she had not stepped her foot in a kitchen to cook, which was a first in three years. Shock sprang through her as Devin revealed,
"She was being banged by the business partner I went to meet."
"You are joking right?" Sabrina dropped her fork and asked, wide eyed. She expected that a misunderstanding must have happened but nothing of this sort. Clearly, the pain seared through Devin’s eyes,
"I wish I was."
"I’m so sorry," Sabrina said, went around and hugged him from the back. Devin chuckled and guided her back to her chair. As if recalling something, he asked, frёewebηovel.cѳm
"It’s alright. Hey, where is your best friend, Matilda?"
Sabrina froze, as regret and pain shot through her eyes. "Tilda? I haven’t been in touch with her since that incident." Her voice thinned at the word, ’incident.’
Devin covered her small hands with his big palm and asked softly, "You never believed she did that, did you?" Sabrina shook her head and a tear slipped down her cheek.
"That is the reason why I feel guilty. I gave up on her when I should have been there for her. I don’t deserve her friendship."
Devin squeezed her hand and said, "You did not have a choice. The police could have arrested you as well." Sabrina disagreed.
"I had a choice. But I was so concerned about what Robin would think of me that I did not want to associate myself with her. I failed her, Devin. I failed," Sabrina sobbed and the food tasted bitter in her mouth.
Devin smiled a little. He was glad about the possibility of Matilda being innocent. Back then, he could not help because Sabrina had not asked him to. She did not even get in touch with him. As such, he only had to agree with the rest that Matilda was indeed guilty of drug abuse.
"I’m sorry I brought it up."
"No, it’s good you did." Sabrina quickly disagreed. She felt bad for not having checked on Matilda during these years. "I guess it’s time to face my fears," she said with determination.
"What are you going to do?" Devin asked curiously. Somehow, he wished to also see Matilda once again.
"I will call her and apologize."
"It’s been over two years," Devin cautioned, afraid that she would be hurt if Matilda refused to entertain her call or visit, if they were able to find out about her location but Sabrina was determined, saying,
"It’s never too late to make things right."
"I agree but do you have any idea where she’s been since?" Devin asked her. Sabrina was just a year into her marriage with Robin when the news broke out about Matilda being on drugs.
When she was arrested, the first person she called was Sabrina but she denied even knowing her because the call had come through Robin. He was at the time looking for any and everything to make her leave since his father had passed on six months ago.
Sabrina was afraid of being misjudged, thereby denying knowing Matilda. "No. I guess everything was so hard on her that she must have left for another state or could she be in a rehabilitation center? Let me try my luck."
Sabrina dialed the number she had not dialed in a long time and it connected on the second ring.
"Hello, hello,"
Sabrina felt a lump in her throat upon hearing the familiar voice again. Devin was about to take the phone from her when she said in a heavy voice, "Tilda, it’s me, Brina."
The line instantly went quiet. The only reason why she knew Matilda was still on the line was because of the sniffling sound she heard after. The next moment, she was swayed by Matilda’s response,
"Brina, I miss you."
